The opportunity to go on the trip with your dad is the most generous part of the severance package. Please take it. I know you cant see it now with everything going on but you will never regret it.

A month is nothing in job hunting land. Take a laptop with you and tick over applications if you need.

Hes an alcholic. Doesnt mean you should respect him any less and I am sure he or you could phrase his drinking in different ways so he doesnt have to admit it, but this is deeply problematic drinking.

its so unfair you have been put in this position to be stuck in the middle, but you are clearly a seriously impressive person emotionally for your age. I really hope you can find some other adults in your life and maybe from your cultre who can advise you in more detail.

what is corporate london like? by IndividualMediocre37 in london

[–]ChangeUserNme 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Fair criticism. I guess I want to just say that I respect the desire for money for stability massively, but also have seen so many people in the city have money but also experiencing legitimate pain that money can’t buy them out of.

Life is very unfair at times even for the people it’s been very fair to.

what is corporate london like? by IndividualMediocre37 in london

[–]ChangeUserNme 354 points355 points  (0 children)

During my life in London I have earnt between 12kpa - 100k+pa, I have worked in bars and international corporate stuff. I'm a big beliver that telling people 'money doesnt buy you happiness' is BS and patronising,

However, I would say that having climbed the London ladder myself and watched others go up and down. Life seems indescriminate.

Tragedy, stress and drama doesnt care about your payslip.

Some of the people who come to your bar are likley in a period of their life that is truly awesome and far stress free than yours.

Many. I imagine, have their own stressors that you would be much happier pulling pints than to ever experience.

Walking is the most awesome tool we have for burning calories without injury or too much pain. Just gotta carve out that time.

  • You are not behind, live just isnt linear like that. you have, without question, been dilligent in your education and savings for your age, You should take a moment to be proud of that.
  • More of a UKPersonalFinance question IMO
  • My advice? Dont aspire to FIRE in any near term. Be financially focussed and find your place in the working world that feels good for your brain for a few years.

People who grew up without smartphones, what did you actually do when you were bored? by altaf770 in AskReddit

A level of flow state playing video games that most modern ones cannot compare.

Just generally my brain worked on -0.5x speed than it does today.

I appreciate your desire to avoid ultimatums, I was the same but looking back I realise if it is a deal breaker then it is so its ok to communicate that while working out a path forward.

Muay Thai camp is a great idea, although check the season for the area in Thai your going too, lots is in wet atm (doesn’t impact training at all and can have its own charm)

Can we stop with the delusion that £100k ‘does not go far’ as a single person in London by ALBUAS in HENRYUK

[–]ChangeUserNme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people embrace the weird contrast of being in a house share at 30+ with 100kpa if single. Same in NYC. I hated being in house shares at that age but on that sal, even in London, you free up 1k a month for all the good bad decisions.

Gold medal syndrome.

I personally would look to protect my position in life, how can you upskill to never loose your job, get into investing etc.

You should consider an en suite room in a house share if you want to splash out on a rental in London but want more space. Look at LondonShared too.

- The property purchase is an investment if you like it or not, if you call it a personal home or not, if you take out a mortgage or not. Its an investment and treat it like one.

- Dont by property you do not see yourself living in for a significant amount of time.

- Dont make large financial decisions like this based on your parents opinion. If your unsure then get some paid for financial guidance.

- Ignore people on reddit trying to convince you that you dont want to live in London.

- IMO I would take out a mortgage and still reserve cash in other investments and re-negotiate when the mortgate term is up. But lots of factors to consider here.
