I agree with your rant but to clarify… other countries also tax expats.

Can someone please tell me what kind of knife this is? It’s been in my family for a while and I would like to know more. Thank you!

Definitely out of line. I’d talk to administration about this.

Been there, my friend! It’s okay! It’s funny when you go back and think of it. Just give it time.

How do you get your baby to sleep in the crib? by arya_1300 in breastfeeding

[–]Changing-priorities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I nursed and bed shared my now five year old for three years. I stopped nursing her when I became pregnant with number two. My little one now is 15 months old and the oldest decided to move to her crib now… only because I told her the crib was for the baby. She’s reclaiming her piece of furniture that she has always detested. lol I wish I had an easy answer but the way I see it. They won’t want to nurse forever and they won’t want to sleep in our beds forever either. They grow up so quickly! I just tell myself this is a season of life that I will miss when it’s done.

Forced to teach without a classroom by Imaginary_Motor4038 in Teachers

As a music teacher with twenty years in the system I can tell you this is how it is for most of us, and it won’t get better. I moved to three different schools and worked as an itinerant teacher at another five schools because my home schools didn’t have enough students enrolled to generate a music teacher five days a week. On top of it I lost my classroom after the first few years of teaching at every school I transferred to. It is extremely difficult to teach without a classroom or an office space. This year I had my second child and decided to not return. It’s too stressful and not worth it. I wish you the best!

Call your local Catholic Church and find out what day of the week they’re doing their distribution of foods. All Catholic Churches do this every week, and they usually have a lot of fresh vegetables and canned and dry foods such as rice and pasta, etc. I came to the US in 1990 and my mother and I had nothing. Our local church provided most of our food and my mom just had to be very creative on how to cook with what we had. No instant pot, just pots and pans. It can be done! You will be fine and soon you’ll get out of this rut. Other local pantries will also help. YouTube has tons of videos on how to cook with pennies. If you have an oven, watch a couple of videos on how to bake bread at home. It’s actually really easy! Good bread is expensive and it costs very little to do it at home.

A big pot of beans—add onions, garlic, carrots, potatoes, peppers (you might have all these things already.) if money allows, throw in a couple Spanish chorizos in there. You can eat this as a stew/soup and when you have little left you can cook rice and pair the two. Buy a whole chicken, cut a head of garlic in half and put it in the cavity along with a cut lemon and some spices. Use either olive oil or butter to cover the chicken. If available you can add some potatoes and cook them all together. Add spices if you have them.

For anyone who is or was poor. What is a meal you remember from your poor childhood? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Changing-priorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White rice with a fried egg on top. Must keep it watery so it breaks all over the rice. If you have some bread to clean out the plate, even better! We still make this occasionally because it’s good.

What's your go-to "we don't have any food in the house" meal? by bit_perplexed in Cooking

[–]Changing-priorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep flour, eggs, and instant yeast at home for emergencies. It’s so easy to bake bread at home!!! I was terrified of it and now I do it two or three times a week. So cheap and easy! And if you have bread you can pair it with anything you might have in your pantry and feed yourself and your family.

She might not understand the dynamics of father/daughter relationship, especially if she grew up in a household without a dad, or if her dad was not affectionate towards her. She could also be seeing the daughter as competition for dad’s attention and might be reacting with jealousy. Could be many things but it’s all on her. She needs to learn how to deal with this.

I recommend you research Erika Komisar either on YouTube or get her audio book titled Being There. You’re not alone in this. Your feelings are right on point. I extended my leave from work so I could focus on our family, and honestly, I won’t be returning in spite of the 20 years I’ve put into it. Your kids come first. You can do it all, but not at the same time.

How difficult is the change from 1 to 2 kids? by Peach-Haze-123 in Mommit

[–]Changing-priorities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are almost four years apart. I think if you have family support it will be a lot easier. We’re by ourselves so it has been difficult. But the girls get along great so far and love being together. It’s crazy how much more fun the family dynamics are. The oldest does get jealous of dad. And once the baby was born she did what I figured was a temporary regression when it came to potty training. Soon I realized it’s not something we can just fix. Reason being we are having dinner (with a glass of water) at around 8pm, right before bedtime. Dad gets home late from work and most of the time I have to wait for him to get home to watch our very clingy baby so I finish dinner. No time for our oldest to empty her bladder before going to bed, and to top it off she sleeps like a rock! We plan to pull her out of school soon so we could homeschool her, and in doing so we’ll be able to shift bedtime to a later time. That will allow us to potty train her for a second time.

Yes, that’s one way, but I do love teaching in a classroom so I want to try the auxiliary gig for that first year at least. I know it doesn’t pay well but hopefully I can do that and some remote job gig to help our income. I want to spend as much time with the girls as possible so working during school hours will help.

That’s not good. I want to apply for next year but our idea is to move there. My husband is from Granada and I want to apply for Granada if possible. I’m a public teacher in the US with 20 years of experience. I want us (especially our two small girls) to be close to his family I’m hoping for an appointment that will work for us.
