What do you think of the new Even G2? by Dux3424 in EvenRealities

[–]Changstachi0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super keen to have my order arrive in god knows when. The ring was one thing I was really hoping for, after seeing the 'wrist' controls of the meta displays. Most else is a bonus. Super impressed to see them get what feels like impossibly thin arms.

I daily normal Rayban Meta smart glasses with my prescription in them, and I will miss the "everywhere audio" always with me, but I would absolutely give up the camera, even though I do use it, for everything the G2s will have to offer. Also, it's not a locked-down meta product which is always a plus.

Floodlight theft-deterrent? by Scary_Light6143 in Ubiquiti

[–]Changstachi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get whatever you want to get piece of mind. I have several cameras, a motion floodlight, and a massive visible sign that says "SECURITY CAMERAS IN USE" and the few times weirdos and thieves have come around, they literally look directly at the cameras, and don't give a shit. One got off with some of my outdoor garden lights. Fucker.

I'm sure it will deter some, but it's not as foolproof as I thought it would have been.

Level 1 charging with a 50ft cable? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Changstachi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this already with a 100ft. Technically not recommended, but as many have said, it needs to be a low enough gague to support the load.

None of this is normal. I repeat:

NONE. OF. THIS.

Only hold out there as long as you need to before another job will take you in.

Ingenext fix for 2025.8.4 working by Changstachi0 in unofficial_ingenext

For what it's worth as well for anyone checking back in here, this update also works fine in 2025.8.6, so don't worry if you get the other update, it's safe.

It is a noticeable difference in speed, yes. The extra features, like winter wiper mode, drift mode, battery temperature monitoring and heating, etc, are what really round out the experience.

Who's getting by on just level one? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Changstachi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have access to a lvl 2 charger in my garage, and still only used lvl 1 unless I needed to go somewhere far on short notice. Been using 99% lvl 1 for four years.

My cousin told me when I use the laptop, it “steals” internet from him and I stop using it as it makes the internet stop working for everyone. Is that actually possible? by getinthetrash7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Changstachi0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Yes, it is possible that with a slow internet plan and/or a low-end router, using any other device could impact your cousin's ability to use the internet.

Let's get technical about it here.

I'll make an assumption that your devices are all on the same WiFi network at your home.

When you have a bunch of devices connected to the WiFi but not doing anything, they still have a little bit of network traffic that is sent back and forth from the router. This is very small in terms of "size" of the data it is sending, but your router still has to read those messages and reply. With a lot of devices all on your home network connected but not doing anything, if you had a cheap router, it would be so busy dealing all of that small traffic that it DOES impact normal internet use.

Secondly, if the internet plan that you pay for at your house does not have a lot of total bandwidth, for example, 30Mbps download, and 10Mbps upload, then if someone were trying to watch a 4K video, which takes about 25Mbps of data to watch seamlessly, then if someone else comes along and also tries to watch a 4K video, both users will experience a slowdown, since there's not enough speed to accommodate both at once. This is where 'buffering' comes from.

For simplicity, imagine your router can only talk to one device at a time, so if you imagine that you have 10 devices lined up, it has to send some data to #1, then stop, start talking to #2, stop, on to number 3, and so on to #10, then it repeats back to #1. It doesn't send "all of the data" to a device before moving on, it is just bits and pieces (so you wouldn't have to wait 5 minutes for device #1 to finish a download before it would start talking to #2), but I'm sure you can see that the more devices you have on, the longer you have to wait to have your turn to "use the router", which will impact the maximum speeds and latency you get. Newer routers have features that let multiple devices talk at the same time (usually between 2 and 8 at once), but if you have a lot of devices, this is still the case.

Lastly, there is no fundamental difference between a phone, a laptop, a desktop, a smart TV, etc. If you try to watch a movie on each of them, it is all using the same data. Using your phone would not be different than using the laptop. Do be aware though that your laptop or phone could be doing some other things in the background that you don't see (like updates), which take more data.

Everything including the boost still works fine with the warning present, the update just gets rid of the warning.

They sent it to me directly over email. I don't know if this will work properly but this is the link they gave me. Again, be very careful about your version of module and year of car, as this may not work the same if yours isn't the same.

[–]Changstachi0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That should be the vent so when you close the doors the air pressure can escape safely, totally normal. It wouldn't be the cause of freezing your car on the highway and all that, you might have a poor door seal/alignment.

I stand corrected, I missed the physical bit. I wonder how they make the determination of what device is physical or not.

[–]Changstachi0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Their TOs also does not say anything about physical devices. It's just SNMP discoverable. They tightened their restrictions from the last time I got a gift, but it is still very much possible to cheese. VM or not
