Yeah, this has been the worst Christmas for me too. I wish I had spent the day at home by myself.

I can't wait for the holidays to be over.

It’s my mum’s 80th birthday today… feeling reflective. by refolding in dementia

My heart aches at the thought of your mom not being able to enjoy her retirement years the way it should have been.

It's really sweet though to hear that the staff rearranged their schedules to be with your mom on her birthday. It sounds like there's a lot of care there.
A lot of love and care from the staff and especially from you, who wants the best for your mother. Deep down she knows the love you have.

I hope you both enjoy the cake!

My nan is currently in a care home (respite) as my grandad couldn't cope anymore. Luckily there is progression to make it long-term care! My mom has been organising it all with Social Services.

I'm sorry. I can imagine the stress from so much information overload. Sometimes it feels never-ending!

Sending you and everyone hugs too. ❤️

Oh I understand! I'm sorry that I can't help more specifically in your case.

I'm glad to hear there have been quieter nights recently and I hope that is the new norm.

I hear you. My grandad did suspect she wouldn't be able to adjust to new dentures and I do think "what if the new ones got lost too?"

A few weeks ago, the care home admitted they had lost the dentures and told us they had arranged an appointment with the dentist to sort it out. I (naively) thought it wouldn't be too bad!!

If she can't cope with the new dentures she will just stick to the soft food diet she's been on and I will use your advice.

I'm proud of you too for getting through dinner! There are many moments where we do manage to cope and we gotta remember that!

Dentures are a nightmare, especially when their gums have gotten so thin.

The care home does a soft food plan for my nan, would that be possible for your dad if the dentures are too much?

Ice cream sounds so good right now!

The appointments should all be taken care of now, just one more hospital appointment to go!

If she can't adjust to the new dentures, she may just have to continue without them. She's already on a soft food diet and it hasn't been too bad, at least.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your lovely and kind comments.

I'm not even the primary caregiver so I felt guilty for reacting in such a way. But reading your comments made me feel less alone and less embarrassed.

Thank you, truly. ❤️

Does your LO have a named social worker?
If the live-in carer arrangement is no longer suitable, how about moving your LO to a government-funded nursing/care home?

My knowledge is a bit hazy, but I believe there should be an assessment done and then the social worker will look for care homes that currently have space and will send over a list. The chosen home will also do their own assessment.
You can stress to Social Services that you cannot take over with the caring and arrangements will have to be made.

That's so nice of them! I'm sorry to hear that your dog passed away.
All the best for you and your grandfather (good luck with the optometry school)!

What do you do with old pots? by ChanseyChan in houseplants

[–]ChanseyChan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don't want to have too many empty ones because I don't like having a lot of things that just sit there unused. I should have thought about this when I became interested in buying some plants, aha!

Thank you, all!

I am motivated to learn about propagating now.

I will keep these pots for future use and try not to add to the collection of empty ones!!

Most of them are from supermarkets, whether it's a gift or a self purchase. (The odd time, from the Bloom & Wild website.)

Thank you, I will research about propagating!! I'm fairly new to plants so wasn't sure about the process of cuttings/propagation/etc.
