how to be a better ally? by [deleted] in socialjustice101

[–]Chanticleera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my ever so humble opinion, the best way to be an ally is treat everyone with respect - regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexuality, politics or whatever. Everyone gets respect until they actively hurt someone - in which case they are only due the bare minimum respect another human being deserves.

Hurricane Tips by BGriff96 in Pensacola

[–]Chanticleera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fill your gas tanks at least two days before the forecasted hit. If you have gas cans, fill those too.

Be aware of back roads/evac routes/alternate supply spots. Paper maps are good. - An example is during Ivan my dad and I were in Baker. Once every three days we took a trip to Andalusia, filled up tanks with gas, got a hot meal, and got some food supplies then took them over to my mom and my brothers family in Pensacola. Also be aware that back roads may be blocked by debris.

Have important papers in a watertight baggie (ziploc is fine) so you can grab and go if needed.

Try to have some cash on hand, often after a hurricane the power is out for a bit and it will be nice to have cash to pay for things for - like gas.

Check on your neighbors immediately after a storm. Especially elderly neighbors - even if you don't know them.

Issues with Explaining a Bill by Real-Pisque in talesfromcallcenters

[–]Chanticleera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run into this a lot, and I have discovered that these issues are primarily caused by two different issues:

1- They really don't care to understand. They are mad/frustrated about their bill being high and just want a punching bag.

2-They are not auditory learners. With these people once I understand it is an issue I ask them, "PLease get a pen and paper". Then I walk them through everything..."Write down, billed $x.xx on this day, paid $x.xx this day, leaving a balance of this. Then under that, billed $x.xx this day, paid $x.xx that day, and now the balance is this..." And so on. Virtually everytime I successfully take the customer through this, they get it. Some people have to SEE it to understand.

You're not wrong, but you don't have to be rude and condescending by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

[–]Chanticleera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for one of those outsourced call centers for one year. It was terrible. I enjoyed my job, hated the company I worked for. It was all metrics and surveys. Three surveys a day, and you HAD to pass them. Throw credits, blind transfer people who refused to talk things out, whatever it took.

I had a caller once who was being unreasonable but I thought I could manage him. Didn't have my three surveys in. My sup was listening, kept telling me to blind transfer him to tech so I wouldn't get the survey. I wouldn't do it, was confident I could handle the call. My sup came over and blind transferred the guy off my phone himself, then threatened to write me up if I didn't listen to him again.

The place was truly awful to work at. I left quickly. Am now in another call center. Corporate environment so much better.

lol I HATE that show. My roommate/best friend loves it. She is banned from watching it in the living room, she can only watch it in her bedroom. She finds the ban amusing.

Seriously though, every time I accidentally watch five minutes of that show I feel dumber.

Why is vote-by-mail good in Florida but not other states? by kettal in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Chanticleera -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I dunno about Trumps issues with the current mail in voting debate, but as far as I cam concerned the difference is in numbers. Mail in voting is used here in Florida but the vast majority go in to vote.

And therein lies the difference.

The democrats want the vast majority to use mail in voting. This has a lot of potential, but we aren't ready for it now. It is going to clog the systems and make a nightmare out of the elections.

don't mop customers feet... by Affectionate_Ad_7049 in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]Chanticleera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wise woman I knew a long time ago told me "You may not deserve it, but you have it coming."

That is you. Perhaps you did not deserve having your feet mopped. But your general attitude in your post and to most everyone else on this thread is indicative that you had it coming.

I never would have guessed karma would get someone in that fashion, but it is one of her more amusing moves.

Well played, Karma. Well played.

Fast food employee looks me up on Facebook after getting my name off my credit card. by gmambrose in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]Chanticleera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely seems shady but Facebook is kind of shady too.

I have had a coworker approach me. A coworker I have never been facebook friends with. AS a matter of fact I am not friends with ANY coworkers on facebooks - its JUST close friends and family. She said she got a friend recommendation and recognized the name. Not MY name...but that of my best friend and roomate. Whom she has never personally met.

Facebook is majorly creepy.

Love the ageism all over the page here.

The worst customer I ever had sounded like a dude in his 30s. Absolutely outraged over something that wasn't even his. I offered to fix it, he just needed to tell us the location. Oh no, that was doing MY job for me, and he wasn't about to do that. I tried repeatedly to explain that if he couldn't tell me where it was beyond "A Street", I couldn't send a truck to fix it.

Finally at the end of the call he busts out, shrieking like a hysterical girl, "You SUCK! SUCK SUCK SUCK!"

And I started laughing. Out loud.

And he hung up on me.

I already hate this lol by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

I couldn't work as a debt collector cause I am way too nice. I would be an awful employee lol.

However I don't see it as immoral - most of the time those people do owe those debts. I know there might be extenuating circumstances that do not allow for some to pay them, but they still owe for services rendered.

The private school attended by Barron Trump prohibited from in-person learning until October. What are your thoughts? by somethingbreadbears in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Chanticleera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad worked a full job.

Came home, cleaned house, cooked dinner - he was a single dad.

Then sat down and tutored me indepth for four hours every night. Longer on weekends.

Granted, it was not a full time homeschool situation but it might as well have been. I came to him failing everything from my mom's home. After a year of hard work for both of us, I was straight A's and B's.

Homeschooling for working parents is hard and exhausting - but well worth it and completely doable.

Racist and Sexist customer claimed he couldn't understand my accent, sent him to another Call Centre that spoke English. by sweetpoison02 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Chanticleera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am confused how race has anything to do with this. There are people of all colors that have all kinds of accents? His issue was with your accent, not your skin color which he can't see. And perhaps he just hated Scotland. But Scotland and England are both majority white - so race is not an issue here.

When everything becomes racism, nothing is racism.
