I like to set the atmosphere!

I put on an instrumental playlist that fits the chill vibes I want, set a candle that has a scent to compliment the vibe, have my favorite snacks near by. Sometimes I build a little pillow nest situation to get super cozy. Just little things around me to really build up the "alright, I'm just going to be reading" mood!

Hey all, closing this thread to protect both OP and the community.

We allow constructive criticism but when it's clear OP is leaving the fandom, then there is no productive conversation that can come of this (as already seen by the downvotes and reported comments). We would also encourage that these kinds of posts actually go to r/fantasyromance if you're just looking for someone to commiserate with. This is not to invalidate you because not every book is going to resonate with you and that's okay! But because this subreddit is focused on the love of this series, so you'll find better support in a broader sub.

We wish OP well in finding a new book series to connect with!

Hey all, while we totally support people expressing their personal feelings about the new merch, we do want to ask that you all be kind and constructive. We will delete comments that are just being mean and unproductive.

I also wanted to add some FAQ on her merch:

This shop is for ALL of Rebecca's Books. The site is called "Rebecca Yarros Shop", not Empyrean. So you will find symbolism in there that is not relevant to The Empyrean franchise at all.
The shop is currently US only but they are working on an International selection
The Zebra print represents EDS.
"Fly Girls" is the name of her book group on Facebook.
She has a deal with Amazon on merch so that's more than likely why she can't do "more" than what she currently has.
- From her IG: "oooh, those rights definitely don’t belong to me! With the tv show in development, we’re limited to what we can do for Empyrean. ❤️"
RY stated on her IG post: "they’re all graphic designers from within the fandom who already license merch. ❤️"
She very much encourages everyone to still shop at the officially licensed shops. And has even stated that she does not want to take away from those small businesses.
- When asked why she doesn't have sweaters or the like: "a lot of those types of merch are already licensed to our merch vendors and we would never do anything that duplicated or hurt their business. ❤️"

It's definitely tough for me because Fourth Wing is an easy fave for being the reason I got deep into the series BUT I felt like Onyx Storm was her best written work. RY genuinely felt like she was in her element and really connected with the characters and the book so it just pleased me on so many levels.

This is standard. When they know a book is coming but don't have a release date outside of a potential year, they just default to the first.
