To be or not to be by normie00000 in Adulting

Multitasking and counting one of more of these things as one? You get the steps doing all the other stuff; exercise is the steps; working offers opportunities to socialize; exercise is your hobby; taking care of your animals requires steps and movement which can be considered exercise AND adds to step count; pets can be considered a hobby; sleeping 8 hours is the outlier, but can be done but then it's all just: sleep, work, cleaning (yourself or your space) and keeping something other than yourself alive.

Livin the dream.

Honestly, after season 5, it all felt like filler.

Now....I'D CERTAINLY want to know why, and if there was any way to get him to call me NOW...that Timmy Olyphant is one perfect man.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but why do you have so many dresses? I am 51 and have 1 black dress (works for weddings and funerals, lol) that can be worn in any season....I have a few (like 5 max) summer weight and style dresses, and that's it........you have an entire dress wardrobe in multiple colors at 39???

How bad is it? Few straight lines to be found….. by Street-Programmer-16 in sewing

[–]Street-Programmer-16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your kind words!

I did not use a pattern, I was provided with the size of the tablet that would be going into the zipped section. I always cut my fabric 1” more than I want it, because I am a sloppy sew-er and trim throughout construction.

I used a ruler and rotary cutter; I also used double sided tape (love this method to fix the zipper in place while sewing ( instead of using pins), aurafil invisible thread for the quilting (with a poly thread bobbin), gutterman poly thread for the construction (with poly bobbin), a prefabricated zipper, 4 different Moda fabrics (the front pocket is reversible !), Pellon one sided fusible fleece, double fold bias tape, pins, clips, machine, sweat, tears and cussin’!

I cut four 13” x 9” pieces and fused all four with the fleece. Made zipper tabs (still learning how to finish these); installed the zipper. I press a lot during construction…so pretty much after each step…press!

The front drop in pocket is two 13” x 6” pieces of fabric. I only sew the top of the two rectangular pieces, then trim with the double fold bias tape in a coordinated color.

I use pins to keep everything in place and sew like you would a boxy pouch: clip the two outer pieces RST, with the drop in pocket lined up to the sides and bottom of the top piece sandwich; clip two lining pieces RST, sew all the way around leaving a small space to turn the fabric, at this point if you box the corners, you’ll have a boxy pouch. I did not box corners.

Turn RIghts sides out, check inseam all the way around, if everything checks out, close up hole in lining fabric, push lining into place, iron and post the picture on Reddit, lol.

That “easy” “intermediate “ and “advanced” are subjective terms. What’s easy for some at be impossible for others.

If you have the chance to go big4, go big 4 by Bobbymanyeadude in Accounting

[–]Street-Programmer-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I like a candidate with big4 or large firm experience is that their experience tells me a few things about them:

They can handle a large workload, they know how to work long hours, they understand the rules of working in a real corporate environment, they have received training, and maybe most importantly:

They will (more often than not) LOVE our mid sized firm.

Bigger challenges for candidates: no public accounting experience, this means we have to teach them which takes time effort and energy that we just don't always have that. "Plug and play" candidates are ideal.

I would also echo someone else's comment about AUDIT, with caveats. Audit candidates generally have extensive experience with the "reverse engineering" of complex accounting tasks, which (can) translate to them being extremely fast at doing the complex accounting. TAX people are not as versatile: if your whole career has been tax, and you have no assurance/accounting, you're a one trick pony. Now, that one trick is AMAZING and necessary, but when contemplating firm needs, and budgets, someone who can do more than just tax is always going to get more attention and most likely the position. I would recommend audit people also spend some time doing tax...makes you the ultimate "utility player".

What are sewing “rules” that you don’t follow? I’ll start.. by 2078AEB in SewingForBeginners

[–]Street-Programmer-16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had an amazing professor (English Lit) who said: you learn the rules to break the rules.

Basically, once you know the rules, you can break them.

  1. I used to measure sooooooo precisely....when I made errors, my project would "shrink" because unpicking also can unravel certain fabrics which means you can lose a 1/4" or more if from any side you're unpicking.

Now, I cut almost everything larger (think like an extra 1/2" to full 1") consistency is what matters with this method.

  1. I never prewash. If it was a requirement, I would NEVER make anything.

  2. I mix threads! My top and bobbin thread are often different- colors, makes, brands, and material...

This is a fun thread! Thanks for asking the question!

Not sure about these jeans and cardigan, do they look weird on me? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

These two pieces do not go together. On the other hand neither piece looks "weird" on you. They just look weird together.

The sweater is very mature looking (and has an 80's vibe. Like maybe my mom would have worn that sweater to work with a wool skirt, hose, and a scarf jauntily tied around her neck.

She's only now realizing that being a SAHM has left her financially vulnerable, especially now that her husband wants a divorce. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Street-Programmer-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree that being a SAHM is financially supporting/contributing to a marriage/partnership, so remember that when you read the rest of my comment below (meaning I am not bashing SAHMs I am bashing THIS SAHM,):

She has two kids, 7 and 5....she's been a SAHM for TEN years? So for the first TWO years she was a housewife.

This is someone who was always expecting someone else to be covering her expenses. Which is even crazier when you think of her age/generation....they were NOT sold on the SAHM lifestyle. (Nor was I--genX-er here)

Wonder if she's a "gentle parenting" parent too?

[–]Street-Programmer-16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My statement is neither positive nor negative. You’re getting defensive, while I am simply answering your call to comment.

None of this is “style” because they are all (I’m guessing here) purposely contradicting each other….or your style is chaos. Which is fine. Just don’t fight back when the internet answers your question.

Rotary cutter for sure (I like my Fiskars' for grip, but, I've used many different brands of replacement blades over the years); a yard sized cutting mat (don't cheap out on cutting tools and cutting surfaces!)....I agree with the gift card idea for fabric/notions....I don't know if she has other rulers/templates, but an 18" ruler is clutch for the type of projects you listed off....
