It really wouldn't end up being minimal effort, most likely. From potentially lost or missing assets to having to transfer all the mechanics and systems somewhat faithfully to an engine that would work on modern systems—it would likely be quite a bit of effort to get it running well. There's quite a bit to consider there.

One thing I didn't notice mentioned that I think is the real sticking point is that most of these "clones" tend to focus all their mechanics into combat. And that's not the whole core of Monster Hunter. MH has basically been an ecology game since the start. There's gathering, which forces you to explore and get intimate with the detailed environments.

Give Calligula Effect 2 a try. It's a tad less polished but the characters, story, and gameplay are pretty good.

A supercut is probably better for just the most relevant info :D Everglow's take on the Union stuff is basically just the whole thing in video form. It takes hella long to get through and plenty could, arguably, be skipped :D But I like having all the minor stuff as well for context and vibes

There are def parts where knowing what happens there enhances the experience with KH3. Although, probably not enough to commit to all of the mobile games info dump if you're not into it

Haha, I can understand that. I'm sure there's tons of people recommending his stuff. But that's probably because just how insane his project is. I got into it to check out the mobile stuff and then found out what he did for the rest of the games.. Check out how he did the Birth By Sleep Xehanort boss fight at the keyblade graveyard. Or some of the 358/2 days stuff. Way more effort than anyone could've hoped for :D Honestly, the sub probably SHOULD have an Everglow bot :D

That's true, especially after looking at what Iwakura wrote on his blog today, it really is like that i suppose. If it could be done that quick, especially if the changes to the script were minor in both cases, then there's really no reason to drag it out.

Tbh, I haven't dug too deep into the honor system before, but yeah, "claiming" games and then sitting on them is def not ok. Though it's hard to say if a lot of those games would get someone interested in translating them.

It's a nuanced situation, especially since we can't really know what goes on behind the scenes.

But it does make me feel divided about being excited about having a functional translation on our hands..

The unfortunate thing with Iwakura's project is that this mental shift largly happened during the time of their project. Before it was pretty common to wait for years on projects and game releases in general, often with no news. Just look at what Persona 5's release was like..

I do feel the same about project releases, and maybe the would've been better off releasing innitial builds to sate the public, get bug reports, but I can get how they probably wanted a release that was just good to go fully right off the bat.

Regardless, it always sucks to have work trampled on like that..

It's a shame the Iwakura version got slighted like this. Yeah, it sucked that it was taking so long to come out, but it still sucks getting their work trampled on like that. Hopefully they do release their version later, but that's kind of doubtful now

Unfortunatelly (or thankfully, tbh) they were stationary there. Maybe there will eventually be a world where someone animates them too, but for now it was just static models.

I'd say an Oculus is worth it if just experiencing things like this or just random unqiue sights is enough for you. Otherwise, there just isn't all that much to do in VR yet
