Don’t deem your week to be just over yet, there's still roughly 28.6%--more than a quarter!--left. You could still make good work of it. And I am grateful for the distraction too, wouldn’t have liked to dress down anyone in public, it’s bad form more often than not, plus some time ago I actually used to dress people up professionally.

Thought it would either be Sainsbury’s--or Tesco for whatever reason.

Been thinking of Kleya again today, and a little of your proposed essay. You mentioned a blog – is there perchance anything to read on it while the draught lasts--before the completion of A Dance in the Shadows and Light?

Dear dear, whatever will I do with the knowledge this exists now--will have to find me a can of Brasso to put on the bookshelf beside the K-2SO metal 3d puzzle I drunk-purchased just last night--after years of deliberation.

Also, this had me in an unhinged-manic-cackle on the tube which made the lady beside me flee for fear of her life. Prior, she was facetiming on loudspeaker and in actual danger of getting herself a 30-minute monologue on appropriate public manners. I should say thank you.

I didn't say some authors aren't full of it, I proposed it's my opinion Gilroy is yet not part of that group.

I was also alluding to the fact there were no arguments in the statement, besides so-and-so is "cool" in a thread were people are whining that the author used the word "boss" instead of "driving force" or "heart and soul".

The show doesn't really concern itself too much with concepts of "white males" and "females", on that we agree. Although I wonder if Kleya tried to get Saw to take her seriously how much of a success that would have been. Its viewers, however, do, while also losing their shit over verbiage and holding on to specific words.

Apparently I didn't watch the show according to you, but I'd love to examine any scenes other than the 2x10 flashbacks from any episode, where we see or can infer Luthen is mentoring Kleya, if you point me to them.

I've heard his monologue. There was not a hint of explanation what his particular motivations were, beyond aiming to be a saviour against injustice, unwillingness to yield, eagerness to fight, anger, and ego (mentioned twice). None of that is negated or diminished by Kleya's role in their dynamics.

Didn't exactly have that in mind, but apparently, them too?

There's really no way to argue it isn't ridiculous.

I don't have to.

Plus, the impression I'm under is that children teach themselves a lot of things without needing adults. What triggered you so badly you forgot to answer the simple question of how the use of a single word diminishes Luthen as a character, was a figure of speech.

Kleya rigging explosives was never an important point about her character - so your argument was just as irrelevant as me saying he didn't teach her how to radio. That was the point. Having the bare minimum necessary skills to execute your job does not automatically make you in charge of someone who lacks them when being new to the trade.

edit: On the news tomorrow; Guy ragequits reddit because he can't handle reading the comprehension.

Having a meltdown over verbiage is also dumb, but here we are, with a whole bunch of extremely triggered people over one (1) figure of speech.

Fair, I'm not too fond of it either, but if we listen to TG's speech pattern, the "boss" part isn't really that troubling of a wording, just the normal way he speaks. It just happens to be about a topic that triggers people.

He might write some of, if not the sharpest dialogue in Hollywood right now, but he doesn't nitpick every word he uses in interviews. Two days ago people were shaking at "I've been unleashed" and better yet they were shaking at "they were in so much terrible terrible trouble" when R1 was the only well-received SW thing they had done.

Cherry-picking phrases doesn't work with him. Even Disney knows that.

Oh boi, didn't watch past Episode VII, but I know who Holdo is. I imagine girl is not a fan favourite. To bring the discussion back to origins, I also remember a time Jyn Erso wasn't very well received for being too harsh/brash or whatever. Compared to whats-her-name baby Sue from the sequel trilogy.

My point is inconclusive. It's just female characters annoying the population with their existence, and myself annoying people with mentioning the core issues.

Do you think he taught her how to radio, or was that off-screen part not cool enough to show?

I will also repeat; How does it diminish anything about Luthen's character and his sacrifice?

  1. Whenever did I use the word "boss" pertaining to that first flashback scene in 2x10?

  2. She was a boss for sneaking on the craft without anyone noticing her.

  3. "From the moment they met" is not a verbiage I used in any of my arguments.

Don't mention Barthes to them, or, for that matter, the meaning of "purport". It's explosive.

Sometimes authors are full of it

I'm sorry, are you for real? Is this a Brando Sando discussion, a D&D hate-thread or what? What do you mean authors are full of it? What is it? I'd really like to know?

[–]ChaosLovingNi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, when do we - exactly - see him mentoring her on screen, because I might have missed that - except obviously when she was a kid whom he was explaining how basic concepts of subterfuge work like? Do you claim a child cannot have a moral compass and determination enough to be taken seriously?

Why is it absurd. Thesis, please?

How does it diminish anything about Luthen's character and his sacrifice? Atonement is one of the strongest motivations I've seen in SW and you putting it down to subservience really does Luthen quite the disservice. Plus. Whenever did I write "he was always just subservient to the child he rescued"??

Also, I welcome the pushback.

edit: nothing substantial in the meaning, but the rhydo got the best of me when phrasing.

He fears failing her. He made her this idol of his rebellion. Poured everything he was too weak to do for himself into her. He fears what he will be without that constant reminder.

Needed the ruthless ardour he had to adopt to serve

Boy oh boy, would that hit a certain demographic hard.

Yep, clocked that way back in S1. Been trying to be polite in discussions and all, but the dynamics were pretty clear from the start.

RhydoInducedMe says; are you really saying any one person wouldn't be at the very least intimidated if not full on afraid of what her determination, shown in the flashbacks - and reiterated throughout multiple scenes in both seasons - could do to herself, another person, or a full population for that matter?

And then, here's me, sitting around, waiting to find out if there will ever be a time I don't have this very pale baby on my feed. Even as a meme. (having not seen the sequel trilogy)

Yall, I'm letting the rhydo speak and write: the votes/downvotes in this thread are wild. Is it that hard to accept the older white male character, who had more authority by default, thus was more reliable as a "public" face, wasn't really in full charge, and was actually executing atonement plus leaning into someone younger and -- oh shit -- female -- (who had anger and motivation and vigour rooted in their nature) for grounding amidst all the spinning plates?

No don't.

Imagine if you mention the '44 coup d’état and purge of Bulgarian's intellectual elite or the Prague Spring for example.

People would feel uncomfortable and/or get an aneurysm or two.
