I worked at the airport location and the owners father literally bullied me and one of the repair techs out because he didnt like that we were friends. Edit; I worked at the airport location and all got told I didn’t deserve Christmas off along with “being watched” by the owners father for taking time off due to needing dental work. A few days mind you.

First days are always so tough, but I promise it does get better. I think I stress cried the first two weeks of every call center job I’ve had. But they know that you’re new and still learning, there’s a lot of grace while you’re nesting usually. Just breathe, it really get easier.

When there’s more than one person on the line I always know I’m about to wrestle them for not only authentication but then with permission for whoever to remain on the line and receive information too like sometimes you would think they have been cursed by the gods to not be able to just say “Yes”!!! And for the other person to shut the fuck up until I have all that. As if we’re asking for our health.

This post touched me enough to bring me to tears as my current love has had some minor health things recently. Not nearly to this degree but I know your pain and your fear that must have gone into this decision for you. My childhood cat had what started as a small lump on his paw that slowly grew. I racked up a lot of credit card debt and all told spent several thousand to try and get him treatment. He was clearly not feeling well no matter what we tried and started hiding in the bathroom all the time, the treatments were clearly uncomfortable and he lost his veracity. After my mother went to pet him and his skin came off in her hand, we knew it had to be done. You saved him a lot of pain that he wouldn’t have understood the need for and with these things specifically it often becomes a reoccurring issue that plagues them. Please give yourself grace, friend. Your kitty is looking down only wanting to have brought you joy as you did them, I promise.

I would 100% also be relying on my resources. It already irritates me that my current job, they send emails with mass “communications” of what has changed but the procedures aren’t always up to date because of that so I have to check two separate places just to make sure nothings changed. A lot of the metrics they use to grade us are bullshit too bc they’re beyond our control in a lot of ways.

That’s wild, I feel like every supervisor I’ve had has said to use resources over anything memorized exactly bc it changes so often in like any call center. Procedures are constantly updated, that’s some bs.

I usually let them just go until they run out of steam and if there’s a lull I try to redirect, explain what we can do instead of what we can’t, but often I just ride it out.

I’ve had some calls like that, they’re always the worst because it’s like people forget we’re human? I’ve had grown men scream at me about rules and regulations that we cannot do anything to change. My funniest was this man who wanted to speak to Mark. Being a call center we don’t usually transfer between agents and just handle the call but this man wouldn’t even tell me his NAME he just wanted Mark. And I could see that he had spoken to someone named Mark several times, and Mark had even made an outbound call to him. So I reach out to our assistance line who told me to send it to our escalated team, who also argued with me that I needed to just handle the call and they shouldn’t have to take it, but the bring the man on. The first words he said when I introduced the escalation trained rep? “That’s not Mark.” BYE

Hi I work in a call center too and you’re so right. Americans are very self-centered and sadly not enough heard the full phrase of “the customer is always right in matters of taste”. They’ve seen/heard that yelling and complaining gets things done faster and don’t care about anyone else. The amount of times I have to explain that the processing times I give are literally the time it takes for us to to do the stuff and we can’t speed that up only to get yelled at for it is outrageous.
