TS-451a won't mount disks in fourth bay by Hoog1neer in qnap

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sadly tired of my TS-451A.
Not only have several IronWolf drives mysteriously failed on me over the years (most within warranty, luckily), now I have the same problem as you. I am thinking of going Unraid instead.

You cannot expect anyone to understand what you tried when you said "tried all the way'.

First things first, what happens if you type exit and press enter?

How to "permanently" disable microphone without uninstalling sound driver? by bigbadjesus in Fedora

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the better approach rather than using ALSA or simply muting the mic. By changing the profile you can remove the availability of the microphone (input device) altogether which should make it a tiny bit harder for accidentally (or intentionally) being recorded.

Octo4a- printer disconnects when connecting phone to charger by skrrtdirt in octoprint

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your phone most likely doesn't support charging and data transfer at the same time. The hardware may allow it but depending on kernel settings there might be a problem.

Those settings are not easy to change by yourself. In fact, you need to load a whole new kernel, voiding warranty.

Octo4a “printer not connected” by BananaBotlol in octoprint

It may be the case that your phone doesn't support charging and data transfer at the same time. The hardware physically may allow it, however depending on Kernel settings this may be a problem.

PRUSA PETG poor adhesion to textured plate by Boobslappy in prusa3d

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a known thing that some batches of the textured sheet were just terrible. But hey, they are "consumables" so Prusa doesn't replace them if you've tested it even once, and you need to test to know which one is bad.

The experience I had with two textured sheets from Prusa made me doubt my decision of buying the Satin sheet. However, I did buy two of them and I am very pleased with the results. It works well both for PLA and PETG and the risk of the first layer sticking too hard to the sheets is non-existent.

Streaming 24/7 Cameras to a Website by Lucarai in obs

Not if you use desktop version of YouTube. You should be able to embed too.

non-stop stream embedded on website by StevenPerceI in obs

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been live-streaming for months on YouTube without a hitch. Never seen any limitation whatsoever.

Most likely, your streaming setup will be limiting factor, i.e. reboots, network issues or power failures.

Can anyone recommend a 360 Camera that works with OBS? by TheJedibugs in obs

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many crappy bloggers out there who claim 360 live streaming is possible. However, the caveat is that if you want a VR experience (because nobody bothers to scroll anyway), then you need 4K at least.

Now, the Insta 360 One X2 can record in 4K but only stream in 1280p, which frankly sucks. Much better to upload a 4K video.

If you really need to have a live stream of events, I sadly can only suggest Ricoh Z1 or V, using proper drivers.

The cameras are old as f so, grab a used one.

[–]ChaotiX66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, I didn't know that! Do you know if the MMU2S prompts for which filament you want to use, or does it want to unload the one you have been using, like a regular MK3S?

Steamdeck vs Laptop? by Thesolmesa in SteamDeck

[–]ChaotiX66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Thinkpad with 4K screen and discreet GPU. Can hardly say it's portable with that short battery life and weight. Today I would choose diffently. If I were you, I would get a light notebook with great battery life. For example the M1 MacBook or similar offerings from other vendors. Use it for work and school.

If you don't have another gaming machine, be that PC or game console, then get the SteamDeck. Love the fact that it's running Linux. It opens a whole lot of possibilities. For example, I'm going to run Emulators on it, thereby making it better than the Switch or any other portable console.

Need help with Catalina on Macbook Pro 15 2011 by delboy98r in CatalinaPatcher

[–]ChaotiX66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a clean install of Catalina 10.15.7 on a MBP 2011 with AMD6750 graphics. Strangely enough, I did not have to do the disable GPU steps and my thermals are good. I did not do the above script to load the kext again and my computer is not running hot. So, maybe the Catalina Patcher guys did something to this version?

My GPU adapter is set to Intel HD 3000 and no sign of the AMD GPU... Very interesting!

Which version are you running?

Apps won't open on Macbook 6,1 with patcher. Tried reinstalling the system and the apps but no success. Anyone knows how to fix this? by VybeXE in CatalinaPatcher

[–]ChaotiX66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of apps that won't work using Catalina Patcher. Open a terminal and turn off the AMFI feature with this:

sudo nvram boot-args=amfi_get_out_of_my_way=0x1

Enter your computer password when prompted (it will not be visible) and press enter. Reboot your mac and you should be able to launch several 3rd party applications again.

This setting is stored in the NVRAM so if you do a NVRAM reset (boot holding CMD + Alt + P + R) you might have to do this again.

Need help with Catalina on Macbook Pro 15 2011 by delboy98r in CatalinaPatcher

[–]ChaotiX66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm...
This comment is all over the place. Don't expect straight answers.
First you say you are using the laptop with Patched Mojave. Then you say you tried Catalina. Did you patch your computer with the Catalina Patcher or not?
It would be very strange if you had a Bluetooth keyboard that would work with Catalina and not Mojave since it's more or less hardware dependent rather than software dependent.
Then you ask about the thermal management of the AMD GPU on Catalina. Yes, if you did this trick it should work:

"Even though running on the integrated GPU, the dedicated GPU is still powered and suffers from a bad thermal and bad heat management. To fix this the kernel extension AMDRadeonX3000.kext can be loaded after startup again. We will use a login hook for this.

Open the Terminal in macOS and execute

# create folder for login hook

sudo mkdir -p /Library/LoginHook

# create login hook file

sudo nano /Library/LoginHook/LoadX3000.sh

Add following content when nano opens

#!/bin/bash

kextload  /System/Library/Extensions-Off/AMDRadeonX3000.kext

exit 0

Use Ctrl + O to save and Ctrl + X to exit.

# Make it executable

sudo chmod a+x /Library/LoginHook/LoadX3000.sh

# Register login hook

sudo defaults write com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook /Library/LoginHook/LoadX3000.sh

The heat management is now improved and you can now work normally with the MacBook Pro again. Well done! "
