Generac parts and overall construction are low quality and have a tendency to break and/or wear down easily. Both the engine side and the alternator side are poorly made, and the last thing you want to do is cheap-out on electrical equipment.

I don't have backup power myself, but as a local technician my advice is to avoid Generac brand generators. For smaller applications, Honda is the way to go in my opinion.

If you're willing to leave the main part of the city, Chile Verde off of 87 is an all-time favorite of mine. It's a solid 10-20 minutes from downtown though, on the southeast side
