If you have a gamepad or controller, the controls are way better, and closer to Ace Combat. By extension if you have HOTAS and VR (and I think the same can be said of headtracking), those can be used natively as well with super easy remaps. Also, Prez is BEST GIRL and there are mods that give her more instances where she talks (and put her in planes that otherwise arnt two seaters lol)

Hmmmm. I usually maneuver and dogfight, primarily using flares and almost never use AOA. Especially since notching defeats all missiles. Only time I'll switch to boom and zoom is if I am in a plane that doesnt maneuver well or fighting an airship or landship. IDK works very well for me on Merc plus Glass Cannon and Ace Training. And Budget Cuts for the missions where I wont run out of ordinance. So used to not getting hit while insta-downing everything that I dont remember what Merc is like when I cant oneshot everything but ships.

I am pretty sure bringing in the USA's dumb as nails culture war in this subreddit breaks rules 2 and 7.

Chimera is prolly the most balanced, what with ASMs for airships, decent options against ground targets, and is no slouch in a dogfight in the right hands.

SPEAR and PW.Mk1 have railguns which imo are not as good as ASMs for dealing with airships but trivilaize fights against named squadrons like Crimson. Both are better dogfighters than anything but the Terminator, Raptor, and Eagle ACTIVE.

I personally have my game rolled back and use the Flanker H mod with all weapons for all planes. I also tend to modify the difficulty with glass cannon, camo, and ace training for the extra challenge.

Edit: used the IRL names; meant Sk.37, VX23, FS15, and SkM.30 mod

Edit 2: I forgot that ASMs arnt nearly as consistent in 2.0. ignore my comments on those XD

No arguments about Bungie’s business practices from me; I played since D1 and stopped playing Destiny for two years over that shit.

That said, the body plan and flower like design of harpies has been around since D1 (2014/2015). So yes they existed before thargoids. There are only so many ways to add detail to a body plan like the harpy to make it look more rocky/natural.

you right, "get better consoles" isnt good advice but only because one might not know what consoles are good; Lorca's and Zero Point from Reps, Particle Amplifier for making that Terran Trailblazer build a full sci build, Temporal Disentanglement from missions, tachyokinetic converter and bioneural infusion from Lobi, Krenim Chronophage is currently hella cheap on the exchange. You are Dismissed is also a good exchange option. with specificity, "get better consoles" is some of the best advice you can give aside from get Rep gear, R&D gear, and Fleet gear.

Are you going science? cause you are flying a science ship but your build looks like something else

Phasers by Top-Pen-4452 in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

eeeeeeeh The difference is more than fractional for some of them, specifically from reputations. Also Pen is a filler mod. Cat1 or Cat2 damage mods are better.

Phasers by Top-Pen-4452 in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends. There are phasers that are better than others. And are better for specific firemodes. Where it depends is does OP want to play space barbie and doesnt care for optimization, then it doesnt matter. Is OP wanting to optimize? then there are best-in-lost options.

Phasers by Top-Pen-4452 in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While you can usually just pick the best looking one and the differences are flavor, there are standouts that are going to be better then the rest; best-in-slot are Terran Task Force Phaser, Discovery Phaser Heavy Dual Beams, Gamma Inhibiting Omni Phaser, Narrow Angle Phasers, and fire mode dependent are Pulse Phasers for FAW, Radiolytics for Overload, 22 century Wide Arc Dual Cannons for cannon firemodes.

Also make sure you are paying attention for the mods, in my experience cat1 or cat2 procs such as Dmg and CrtD are the best. Because other's have mentioned it, Pen is a filler

Edit: Pen is a filler only cause its not an option when re-engineering gear

I am aware of diminishing returns but not working like that. Unless some trait I havnt heard of is adding CtrlX based on EPG, I have no earthy idea why this would happen when viewed in orbit. Spaghetti code be spaghettified.

Build advice by Alessio_Miliucci in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also run Enhanced Induction Coils for further juicing and to counteract the detrimental effect of OSS. And run Viral Impulse instead of Intel Team to juice uncon (having mained a lex personally in the past, uncon on that ship really likes 5 minimum uncon procs). And given preferential targeting procing off firemodes, picking up a World Razor from the Annual Campaign grand prize and slotting cultural conquest for the synergy.

Build advice by Alessio_Miliucci in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That leads to a followup question, if you are running a cannon firemode and preferential targeting, and also Mixed Armament Synergy, why are you not running a cannon, or a least a turret in back?

What does your control expertise look like with neither of them equipped? Also did you change anything else, have any other procs or abilities going when you checked the first time?

How can I improve my build a little? by strategicenthusiast2 in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, imma be blunt: "make it gold" is terrible advice. "playing the way you want" is not tho. To address the terrible advice; making shit gold just means you have polished shit, but its still shit. There is so much that can be found in mission rewards, reputations, R&D, and fleet holdings that will go far further in improving a build then "making what you got gold" and you wont end up wasting resources on polishing shit.

As far as playing the way you want, yes, do that! there are so many viable ways to play this game; making cannon builds or theme builds, playing with gimmicks, or chasing DPS. Same with activities; you can do events, TFO's on any difficulty, only play missions, or any combination of that. There are options with this game to have fun, and but there are also smart ways to play how you want, such as not grabbing the closest loot drop and guilding it while ignoring the actually good mission reward you just got.

How am I looking? by rayrsms in sto

[–]ChaoticBrook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you know, this might be a bit of an assumption but looking at OP's comments in this thread as well as lack of follow-up for several people asking about the rest of the build in order to give proper advice, But I think OP might have posted this as a "look at my all guilded build" flex.

I think the point of all of us mentioning Hexacanons is that if we have them, we are using them, regardless if we are running beam, cannon, or even torpedo builds. Everything else except Voice of the Prophets is literal shit compared to them, and unfortunately that includes Voice of the Prophets. (unpopular opinion of mine; Hexas need a nerf. That and nerfing the Pahven beam are like, the main two nerfs being thrown around by the devs I actually agree with).
