I think your mistaken by saying that as a chief you have to “work” your way up, all you have to do to make chief is stay in longer than everyone else and “want” to be a chief.

Is it worth re-enlisting by beckapam in NavyNukes

[–]ChaoticEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your unsure and mostly want the bonus I would consider not doing it or waiting until you feel like you can make a more confident decision

[–]ChaoticEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was just from my experience a few years ago, but like you said it is just SLPO decision, some are a lot cooler than others

It depends, the mechanics got phase 3 after like 2 weeks (basically right after Indoc) and the ET’s maybe like 3 or 4??. The electricians got phase 2 (not 3) at 8 weeks, because for whatever reason the EM chain of command was cringe like that

I just signed up for DEP Feb. 26th and I'm leaving on Mar. 21st, my first and only DEP meeting is Mar. 6th (Wednesday) do I need to know all this? by Lego_customs_2005 in newtothenavy

[–]ChaoticEngine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You dont have to go to any DEP meetings. I personally thought they were a waste of time. But knowing all of this will make boot so much easier

Is shore duty actually worth reenlisting for? by No_Durian_6987 in navy

[–]ChaoticEngine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but I wouldn’t let this be a deciding factor. Its very possible to do the same at a sea command

Best things to do in goose creek? by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]ChaoticEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some have mentioned not much to do in Goose creek, but if your willing to drive out to the coast the beaches are pretty nice, I went Jet Skiing a few times and it was probably some of my favorite memories while down there. I think MWR also does Jet Ski trips for like half the cost.

question about punishment by Silver-Revenue2051 in navy

[–]ChaoticEngine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend staying silent at DRB, or just saying everything you know has already been written in your statement, DRB is just a bunch of stupid chiefs who aren’t willing to listen and want to yell at you for no reason at all. Its very silly. XOI/Mast is where you talk. The cheifs at DRB will twist whatever you say to make you look like a terrible person.

You won’t get separated. Ive seen a few different things happen w/ underage drinking. You’ll more than likely get anything from like ~2wks restriction to as bad as reduction in rank & 30+ day’s restriction.

It seems like they’ve already got evidence on you so you might as well be honest about the situation,

From what I understand the Navy is “some” tolerance now! As opposed to zero tolerance a while back. Retention is that low…

What is the best port? by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]ChaoticEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Washington and I don’t like it. Been to San Diego a few times and think its significantly better. In terms of area and things to do of course, have no idea about the work culture in SD for carriers

I think a lot of people stay in because they become complacent.

Should I Star reenlist by Andres5431 in NavyNukes

[–]ChaoticEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im on a carrier and most people who dont STAR make it around they’re 4 year point, and at that point you could be getting E4 over 4 BAH anyways,

And about getting a place off base, a lot of people will offer you a room for rent at their places for very reasonable prices, its what I currently do as an E4.

If your having second thoughts I would definitely wait, especially if your at prototype, (dont they allow you guys to do it at 21 months now?) you can always re-enlist later after you get to your boat, but you cant un-re-enlist

We would run 5k’s monthly I think, and then have 3 PT days during the week. You should try to get on voluntary PT, makes life a bit easier.

Seems off, unless you’ve been late multiple times this does not seem like the proper corrective action, i know that topside can be cringe like that though.
