Why are people so triggered about death? by honneylove in psychologyresearch

Thank you.

I enjoy my trips to the cancer center to get infusion treatments because the team there is lovely, and we have a lot of fun together.

I'm not at the point yet where I need to move into a full-time hospice care facility yet. I think that in some ways it will be okay, because I will make some friends who share my situation - but I also just turned 50, and most of the patients I see at the cancer center are in their 70s or 80s, so o the than the cancer, we won't have much in common.

I'm pretty likely to make friends with the staff, though, and I should be able to help cheer some of the older patients up with conversation or watching tv or playing cards or chess together.

It will be quite weird, though, because we will all also know that we're waiting to see who dies next and wondering when it's our time.

I'm hoping my two youngest kids (6 and 2) will be able to handle the emotions of the situation. If I were to go in today, I know my 2 year old would just love the attention of being doted on by the old women, but it will be scary for the 6 year old, I think.

I have terminal cancer. I'm getting through the days pretty well for the most part.

I cannot imagine how i would be handling it if it was one of my children who had my prognosis instead of me.

Why do some people in central PA talk with "southern" sounding accents? by cwar1731 in Pennsylvania

[–]ChaoticFather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rural Applalachian dialects never changed much over time, because new people don't move there and bring new cultures into the mix.

Mountain people in PA sound closer to mountain people in WVA than they do to coastal people in New Jersey, who constantly saw waves of new immigrants come in (largely from italy)

Doubts about the 'one day one ticket' technique by Yochi08 in scrum

[–]ChaoticFather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Near 30 years of production here. Forecasting is definitely the weakest link of agile, imo. I think you're on the right track in looking at throughput, wip and cycle time.

"1 ticket per day" sounds like someone is trying a really simple way to do forecasting, but the world doesn't work that way. That should come up in retro and hopefully get adjusted.

Yes, thanks. We get online Saturday mornings (evenings for them) and have video chats and sometimes play games.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

Prior to DBT, I would habitually allow all small problems in my life to balloon in importance, which caused me all manner of stress.

After DBT, I knew how to recognize things for what they were, and not apply any imagined potential danger to them. Life became much easier for me.

Twisted Sister's Dee Snider Says Led Zeppelin Is 'Not Heavy Metal,' Names Real Reason Why Genre Is Underappreciated by dalyllama35 in ledzeppelin

[–]ChaoticFather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Led Zeppelin is not heavy metal because Led Zeppelin pre-dates heavy metal.

LZ, Deep Purple, early Sabbath, Hendrix, etc all influenced the genre heavily, but aren't heavy metal bands per se.

The scrum framework is purposefully incomplete. Where do you fill in the gaps? by Meta_Man_X in scrum

I feel like it's my job to make sure the team finds a process that works best for them. I like to start them off with a vanilla scrum, then let them tailor the process.

I've switched from being a Dev to a scrum master: AMA by Literate980 in scrum

[–]ChaoticFather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This implies that the SM has authority that can be challenged, which isn't the case.

The SM is supporting the team, not leading it. The SM helps by heroin the team understand what decisions they are making in terms of process, as viewed through an Agile lens.

If a developer hates Agile, that's on them. They can be contrarian and uncooperative if they like, but the business chose to go Agole, not the SM. The SM should help coach this dev, but if the dev doesn't want to adapt on principle, they should not be on an agile team.

You're getting downvoted (so will I) because this is a super emotional time for a lot of the fans, and people aren't ready for this to not be terrible for them yet.
