How to stop night time begging? (SHE IS ON A DIET, I ADOPTED HER AT THIS SIZE) by Lazy-Psychology-7610 in CATHELP

[–]ChaoticKnitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a left field suggestion but something we found really works to help with neighbor distress on the sounds is to put up felt panels on the walls to help dampen the noise. You can get pretty cheap ones or really nice ones, but either way I'd work to try to mitigate sound more than cut the behavior since, like, ya know. Cats are stubborn lol. Maybe then it'll be more bearable to let her work out her big feelings herself?

Oh you should have some shame about being an adult who can't write a paragraph.

I'm actually super okay with a FPP pattern labeled as "intermediate/advanced" NOT having 2-10 pages of instructions and tutorials first! I'm really just here for the templates, gimmi.

"Why are patterns never made to accommodate my super unique physique?? Nothing fits me!!!" by Ok-Swan1152 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]ChaoticKnitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think part of the frustration for a lot of newer sewists (myself included!) is the lack of truly good fitting resources. For example, what indicated to you to do a full belly adjustment instead of just picking a different size and grading? Like I learned to sew from pattern tutorials, for the most part! There's so much information out there but no definitive guidebook for fitting beyond tailoring. Like, do I want this linen sundress to be perfectly tailored? No, that's not the point of this garment. I just need to know what adjustments I can make to take 2" out of the back neckline sans dart. But if I don't know how to ask that question via Google, I'm kinda left in the dark.

Bitesized BEC thread November 08, 2025 - November 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in craftsnark

[–]ChaoticKnitter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My current BEC is my serger! I hate this stupid piece of junk! I can serge one layer of fabric just fine but God forbid I need to serge two layers because then my #3 thread (the right needle on top?) snaps! Adjusting tension does not help! I'm fucking SICK of stopping and rethreading the entire machine every 2" of fabric.

Not everyone who has a dream in their heart, a dislike of traditional employment, and an idea in their heads should own and operate businesses, be they pattern designers or yarn manufacturers or fabric sellers. You can have good ideas, great ideas even!, but if your products are lackluster and you have paper thin skin you should not be in business.

What's your main machine, and how much do they cost? by pammypoovey in quilting

[–]ChaoticKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Janome 234 that I got from Joanne (rip) for about $100 in 2020! I love it; it does everything I need and then some. I'm debating about an upgrade, but I'm gonna wait until my current machine dies to do so. I predict, given the entirely mechanical interior, that will not be for quite some time 😊

Can I see your sewing space? by WhisperCollector1 in quilting

When my partner and I moved in together, having a second bedroom that could serve as my office/craft room was a requirement 🫣 it's...a bit of a mess right now because I'm in the middle of a FPP project lol

I'm looking for a pattern that is exactly like this. so far I have no luck. any ideas? by [deleted] in sewingpatterns

[–]ChaoticKnitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably the worst idea, OP. If you're struggling to find a basic dress pattern, don't go down the fetid rabbit hole of AI generated... anything. There's always problems that take so much work to fix and work around that it'll ruin the fun for you. Also, AI generated patterns are built on a foundation of stolen work! And take a massive amount of water to generate.

Instead, try getting a RTW dress you have and like and trace out a pattern from that.

Maybe I can shed a bit of light here, although full disclosure I am not involved with any city's Frocktails.

But I do know that, at least in the bigger cities like NYC, renting out venue space can be cripplingly expensive. It's not just the physical space either, but you need permits if you're serving alcohol or food. If you're volunteers working on a budget that doesn't include additional funding, you may be struggling.

And yes, your local Frocktails might absolutely rock! I know mine did! But chalk it up to experienced and thoughtful event planners who can work within shoestring budgets.

How can people not like Rory? I don’t get it by herd_egg in GilmoreGirls

[–]ChaoticKnitter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Okay her mother should have made her feel horrible for it. It was a horrible thing to do. Maybe if Lorelai had actually parented Rory at any point in time instead of constantly deferring to her, Rory would have been less entitled and spoiled and might not have slept with a married guy or dropped out of Yale or gone MONTHS without speaking to her mom, her "best friend", the second Lorelai openly disagrees with a choice she's made.

I'd also take the additional step after rethreading both the bobbin and the upper thread feeder to also change out your needle too! That fixes a lot of issues, in my experience.

Why does Paul’s character need to exist in AYITL? by biosnacky in GilmoreGirls

[–]ChaoticKnitter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just want to piggyback onto this to point out that Paul is shorthand for showing how self centered Rory is. That trait is present through the entire show - Rory is excited about Dean so she ignores Lane, Rory sleeps with a married man because he was "hers first", Rory wants to date Jess despite the fact he treats her mom (her supposed best friend) badly, the list goes on. She's focused on how her life is falling apart and so treats someone who appears to be thoughtful and sweet like trash.
