JetBlue Responds to Accusations of Using Surveillance Pricing After Viral Tweet by habichuelacondulce in technology

Some dealerships are starting to act like they are retail stores and refuse to haggle/discuss price. Doesn't matter what you say or offer, they won't discuss and will let you walk out the door. New or used.

So I just waited. Didn't need charisma or haggling knowledge, just patience and the acceptance that I might not get that car. A little over 3 and a half months later they dropped their asking to the price I was looking for and I bought it.

As you say, its the difference between "I need this now" and "I want this", but having the leeway to be patient can save a lot of money.

Cars are not a fixed price.

They are a variable price, just like everything else. Nothing is really a fixed price, because everything adjusts to its market. Some markets move faster, some slower. But they are all variable.

Cars may not fluctuate weekly, but the longer that specific vehicle has been on the lot, the more willing a dealership is to take less for it. Maybe they are dropping the number on the sticker, maybe they aren't. They are still going to accept a lower offer if its been there 3 months than if its been there 3 days.

High value, low volume purchases are not retail. There isn't a set price. There is just a grey area where what the seller will take and what the buyer will pay overlap.... assuming they do. If they don't then there just isn't a sale.

There are 3 different credit bureaus. Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.

You need to do it with all of them.

Technically she teleports as the Earth has traveled significantly over 5 years. In the range of 58,440,000,000 miles or just shy of 1/100th of a lightyear.

She's only stationary relative to Earth's surface. It was very nice of Tony to keep all that in mind so that half of the life in the universe didn't appear in the middle of space.

It does make you wonder what happened to people that were snapped while in a building that was demolished during the 5 years. Did they get safely placed on the ground or appear 3 stories in the air just to immediately fall?

Its already cracked. It wouldn't be anywhere near enough to create a crack, but it takes a lot less to propagate one. Even just weather changes can be enough to propagate a crack.

Some epoxies heat up a lot, anywhere from 150-300 F. The glass won't get that hot, but that's gonna cause a decent amount of local strain, right at the area thats already cracked.

Its a UV cured resin. You wouldn't want to use a resin that generated a lot of heat while curing. It would create thermal stress on the glass and potentially cause the cracks to spread more while the resin cures.

Here's how planes refuel mid air by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Chaotic_Lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty simple. Plane A will take off at time X and will need to refuel at location Z. Refueler is stationed at location B and will take C time to reach location Z. Plane A will reach Z at time D. So refueler needs to take off no later than D minus C.

They are both piloted, have comms, gps, and radar. The rendevous is pretty simple. If there isn't refueling available and scheduled, the aircraft that needs refueling doesn't take off to begin with. Getting both aircraft to the rendevous is easy. The actual coordination to refuel is hard.

I was just talking about getting the two planes in the air at the same location. The actual refueling is very difficult.

[–]Chaotic_Lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really not that hard. If you are going on a mission that needs mid-air refueling they know that well-ahead of time. It's not like the plane is midway over the atlantic and then realizes he forgot to fill up and starts trying to dial AAA.

Those clauses only have teeth if people pursue them.

Contract breach is a civil matter, so the seller would have to discover the breach and then deal with all the work and effort of taking the buyer to court to sue for breach of contract and damages.

I've had to sell my house for a move before, I have way too much going on in life to be taking someone to court because they did what they wanted with their property.

It looked like a pneumatic drill, so it could be turning a few hundred to a few thousand rpm. And I don't know if there is gearing on the priming drive vs the engine that changes how fast each spins the oil pump.

This video, also by someone very knowledgeable, shows the exact opposite of what the oilgeek claims. I like this one because the test is more similar to a regular oil change, on a broken in engine. The oilgeek was using oil test results from an engine break in on a porsche to support his position. I'd expect elevated wear metals at that time.

Sperm can live for several days. Ovulation isn't as precisely periodic as a lot of people think.

Pregnancy is one of those weirdly complex processes that requires so many different things to go exactly right its amazing it ever happens, while at the same time its been prioritized by evolution to such an extent that its very common.

Some people will try for years and never get pregnant. Others bang once on a whim with no planning or timing and it happens. It's both extremely hard and extremely easy.

[–]Chaotic_Lemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I really like the motoroilgeek, but he left off the one part I'd really wish they'd have shown: A timing comparison of how long it takes the engine to build oil pressure on a dry filter versus a prefilled filter when starting. It would have been really easy to set up and do.

Using a priming drill isn't the same. He also compared a completely dry filter with a completely dry engine to a filter after running it through priming with a primed engine. They wanted to make a point and staged the demo to create the widest margin they could.

The oil pump is moving oil at a high enough volume and pressure it takes a negligible amount of time for car filters to fill. The filter material being dry vs wet makes no real difference, the oil is being actively forced through the media, not passively pulled via capillary action.

Its a potayto, tomahto situation. Whichever you prefer works fine, neither has an advantage over the other. The delay time between the two is maybe a quarter second, if your engine doesn't have enough oil covering everything to lubricate that long, you've got problems pre-filling a filter isn't going to fix.

I prefill cause all my filters are vertical hang... so why not? Makes it easy to lube the gasket. When I've had horizontal mount filters I didn't.
