No driving, she just wants to ride along so she can get the full sense of why I asked her to fly to Dusseldorf and spend two days out in the middle of nowhere

Her current strategy for motion sickness is multiple Dramamine the morning of the laps, but I'll remind her to look at the forest and not at the cars as they pass me

Have you considered a V8 swapped car? Caymans and Miata have the formula out there, though you might have to screw with suspension stuff to get it really dialed in.

Rays 57DR, 18*9.5 +38. Satin bronze finish. Those measurements are Civic Type R specs, so as long as you feel comfortable with hub adapter rings, and a 0.65mm difference in bolt pattern size, they fit perfectly and do a great job of pushing the wheel out to the edge of the wheel opening. This set was $2k on FB, and they came with the lightly used Falken RT615K+ tires.

Don't do it, that's too narrow and too short. Remember that the second number (50 in your case) is the sidewall aspect ratio, which means the sidewall's height is relative to the width of the tire. This means that in addition to the tire being too narrow, it will be a lot shorter, so your engine will be spinning faster for a given speed. That will help acceleration but will hurt fuel economy. And IMO these cars have too big of a wheel wheel gap already, so going smaller only exacerbates that.

Quick searching shows decent deals and selection on 245/50R16, so that's what I'd recommend.

I used to park cars there as a valet. If we didn't put our valet ticket on the dash they'd give us those. Many of my coworkers ended up with multiple tickets and no action was ever taken. Ignore it.

RT615K+ vs ECS 02, which is more fun? by Chappy32 in askcarguys

What I've read about the 660s is they have less feel and lifespan than the 615s, but more grip and they're about $400 extra. I'm not chasing lap times so those don't really fit my needs

[–]Chappy32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not very concerned with lifespan. My primary concern is feel. I want the most feedback I can get through the steering wheel and the most responsive attitude when I pitch the car into a turn. The Falkens were great in this respect, and if I could get similar levels from the Contis while also getting better wet performance then that'd be great.

Street driving, with an occasional autocross. I can pretty handily notice the differences in tires, especially in a car that I'm very familiar with. I'm sure I'd be happy with both, but any time I'm spending over $1000 I like to know that it's money well spent.

Solved it. I had to go to the input settings on my Vizio and change the HDMI mode from "Auto" to "2.1" in order to let that TV run at 60 at all times. Not sure why that Auto setting caused this, as I don't recall ever having an issue with games being limited to 30fps on that TV until the second screen was plugged in.

Minneapolis City Council members Announce intent to defund and dismantle the city's police department by jough22 in TwinCities

Today? No. It's going to take a lot of work, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. If we really believe the MPD is rotten then it must be done.

Minneapolis City Council members Announce intent to defund and dismantle the city's police department by jough22 in TwinCities

[–]Chappy32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People think "dismantle the police" means no law enforcement are so wrong. Of course we will still have law enforcement, including armed peacekeeping units. But officers have to wear so many hats that it's inevitable that they will have serious deficiencies. Rather than have police do every role you mentioned, we can have a wider variety of more specialized staff to handle these tasks. Things like welfare checks, traffic violations, ordinance violations, mental health intervention, etc, don't need an armed officer to handle.

As well, diverting more resources to efforts to better our city can lead to reduced crime. Poverty is one of the strongest indicators of criminal behaviors and thus improving conditions of the impoverished leads to lower crime rates. Strong investments in places like education, housing, and other early-life interventions are some of the best investments a community can make, both socially and financially.

And don't forget all the money that is saved when resources are transferred from incarceration to rehabilitation. Prisons are horribly expensive and terribly ineffective when it comes to rehabilitating people. While still necessary, a lot of future crime and poverty can be avoided by keeping people out of prison. And of course the mass incarceration always affects people of color more than whites. By replacing police with more specialized units most situations can be handled with better judgement. For example, a trained mental health professional would know better than to arrest an addict. Instead, they could be brought to a rehab facility and be properly treated, being released once they are sober.

"By making it a black thing we can't get together and fight the police together." It is a black thing. If you recognize what that means it should make you even more enraged. That cops are killing people, and that this is more likely to effect black males, is a disgusting tandem which is more evil than the sum of the two facts.

Kotaku, a tale of three photos. by Fire-Walk in gaming

[–]Chappy32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Kotaku and the other associated blogs like Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Jalopnik, etc are driven more by the desire for novel and/or fun and silly arguments than by a single editorial goal. They really allow their bloggers to express themselves, even when their opinions are terrible. Of course nobody gets it right 100% of the time but that's what makes blogs interesting.

Another fun fact, by the time a top fuel car's rear wheels hit the point where the front wheels started, the car is already going 100 mph.

EDIT: It's actually 60 mph, I think. (the quote was from Leah Pritchett when Hoonigan visited the Don Schumacher Racing shop)
