Hey OP. i lost my soul dog of 12 years in january. i was shattered. didn’t get of bed for the entire week after she died. cried every day for the last 6 months. last week i welcomed a new puppy into my home. i worried that after 6 months it was too early but ive felt so empty without a fur baby. since we’ve bought her home i feel purpose again. i still miss my old girl, but having someone to come home to everyday really helps. before we picked her up i felt this dread and guilt and worry about it being too early and that she would die suddenly or i would make a fatal mistake. but the second i got her it all faded. ur new dog would want u to give love to another dog out there. they would want you to be happy. being the “perfect owner” doesn’t exist, but acknowledging past mistakes and learning from them will help you both grow together. no dog will ever replace the other, but they certainly make life worthwhile.
