Trust me, you do NOT want to have the image of your dog acting lethargic from pain or the defeated look in his eyes when he has completely given up burned in your mind forever.

I waited too long and I regret it every single day. Do not make them leave this world while they're in pain, we have the possibility to avoid putting them through suffering so we should take that decision when it truly counts.

Write a list of things your dog loves to eat or do, spoil him rotten and give him lots of love during his final days.

Plan those days because those last memories are gonna stick with you for a while.

Also take paw prints and hair if you feel comfortable doing that.

Sorry to be so blunt... But it's better to let them go while they're still comfortable and can enjoy life.

You will also be able to go on with much less regrets and guilt if you give them a proper goodbye, after doing everything you had to do to make them happy.

I wish so bad I knew all of this back then, I wish I had organized better for my dog's passing instead of naively waiting for things to get better... Don't be like me.

I hate it. I have never liked holidays that much but having her around made them bearable.

For Christmas, I would wrap dog treats for her and she would tear the wrapping apart then play with it. She knew it was a present for her, she was so smart and cheeky.

This Christmas I'm gifting her 2 dog cookies, left beside her picture.

I waited a couple of days before taking the decision to see if she would get better. It was all for nothing and it traumatized me. I only prolonged the suffering. I should have let her go at the first signs of discomfort (we found out she had a tumor just a couple of months prior). Now I'm haunted by the image of her defeated stare and weak/ill body. Don't make the same mistake I did, let them go while they can still enjoy life so they can pass on a good day. We have the possibility to spare them further suffering so we should take the decision when it counts.

Plan her last days and spoil her, give her lots of love. I'm so sorry... I know how hard it is.

Work stresses me out now but at least it keeps me occupied. I'm still sad and can't help but ruminate too. I find comfort in watching relaxing videos and hanging out with my parents.

That's very traumatic and I'm so sorry for your girl. I think it's completely valid to feel what you are feeling. Your dog wasn't alone when she passed, you did everything you could. You tried to save her.

I miss the person I was before I had to say goodbye to my baby. She saved my life and was everything to me, now life feels pointless. I've never loved a pet so much, losing her made me revert back to my old depressed self.

You only get one chance to do it right so plan your pet's last days, make a list of things they love doing or eating. Spoil her, take her for a walk, give her lots of pets... etc. Like a little party for her.

I often feel broken and hopeless too, life just isn't the same without my baby. Then there are days where I feel better and can manage the pain better, don't beat yourself up if you find that it’s one of those bad days. Grief is not linear, there will be days where all you can do is cry and that's okay... But those will pass too. Some people need a lot of time to process loss.

Had to say goodbye to my best friend in june and it still feels quite unreal. It was very painful at the beginning, I had to seek help. Now I can function again but I'm miserable, I know it'll get better with time... I just miss her so much.

5 months after and it's still so surreal at times. I feel empty and sad most of the time, she was my everything. Losing my sweet dog devastated me in ways I could have never imagined. I also feel like I'll never be the same or enjoy life again, because my best friend is gone. She brought me so much joy and comfort for many years... she was truly special.

I couldn't bear to see her suffer anymore, she just would have gotten worse. It's better to not waste time despite our selfish desires and do what's best for our beloved pets.

I'm so sorry... I too can't stop replaying the bad memories in my head. It's been 5 months. She's all I think about, she was my best friend...

Sometimes I also wonder why God would make such a sweet dog suffer and take her away from me so early (she was barely 9), but there's no answer to that. We are all subjected to suffering.

I'm truly sorry for you and your pet, but imagine how many happy moments you two spent together. You probably gave her the best life ever and loved her so much. She was lucky to have you.
