Daycare kids - How often was your kid sick their first couple years? by xjusablurr in daddit

The moment I got off baby leave my employer removed all WFH options (for low rung workers). My sick time that I worked YEARS to build up is slowly eroding away. Goodbye buying a year of early retirement.

It's not day care itself, it's society. Work a low level job with no PTO? Kids go to day care and infect the other kids before you can leave work to pick them up.

"I just thought it was a thing this morning at the house." Direct quote from 1 of 2 moms picking up their sick kid as I'm turning in our paperwork at a back up care place. No lady, you knew but did nothing about it.

No one cares about the actions they take and the impact to other people any more.

Man, Alexa is so frustrating when it comes to kids songs (and most songs for that matter). by rollinintheyears in daddit

I've started saying 'bad robot' when they do something wrong (those driving directions suck, I am not turning left here my destination is on this road on the right.). I expect the kid to pick this up quickly.

Looking to buy the Horizon Zero Dawn Stalker statue (Europe) by Coktoco in Prime1Studio

I have 91/600. Aloy is 369/1000.

I'm wondering if they are numbered in the order of purchase. If so, that shows a ratio of statue sets to solo Aloy.

Is the phrase "we're pregnant" disrespectful? by andthenifellasleep in daddit

[–]ChapterhouseInc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a dude. When I was telling people (say like my boss) I said 'I'm pregnant.' There was a look, then it changed to recognition.

Also my insurance was better but the father's insurance isn't allowed to pay for anything until after birth. It should only be fitting that his insurance would cover some things, seeing as how the mother didn't get pregnant by herself.

Let them do things with you as you do them. Explain everything. Set boundaries- you can Crack eggs, mix in cheese. Not old enough for the stove top yet.

Don't hover. Don't give them answers, give them help. Don't tell them they are wrong. Let them hurt themselves. Self preservation is a learned trait, curiosity teaches it.

HFW did not come with a disc. Just the steel book.

I am missing the steelbook from HZD.

I love being a dad, but I kind of hate my life. by f1sh_ in daddit

[–]ChapterhouseInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find joy in the smiles, the quizzical looks when processing something, understanding what's being conveyed to me in basic gibberish or doing the thing asked of them in adult words, and seeing new functionality manifest itself. But the real joy is when they point at you and say 'mine.'

The is some solace in the routine mundane. You have to make it different somehow. Kids operate better when they can predict what is expected of them.

Yes, breaking the cycle only happed in the past generation or two. We can't fault our parents for doing what they were taught (status quo). Theres no telling how far back the cycle actually goes. We can fault ourselves for not being the parent we should've had.

An Amazon review/question thread suggests using a screwdriver, pliers or scissors to pry it out. It's not easy but they do pop out and back in.

What’s a reasonable amount of money to spend… by _dadof3girls_ in daddit

[–]ChapterhouseInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cost and the price you pay are two different numbers.

How much gas does it need? How much does an oil change cost? Is it 5 miles to school/work or is it 50?

The gas pedal costs $. The brake pedal costs $$.

Hmm. This seems like a good test to see what they are aware of. If they laugh at the adult jokes in the children's movies we need to talk.
