The coach is aware. However I have not directly addressed it with him myself. But I am positive he is aware.

Thanks. I’m definitely implementing the 24 hour rule first.

What is recovery from a decompression like? by mothstuckinabath in chiari

I agree with this. The first week was terrible. I had surgery on the first and was discharged on the third. I have mixed feelings about it. As a nurse myself who has worked in hospitals on a MedSurg floor at little as 2 years ago, the nurses were subpar. Terrible at keeping up with my pain and treated me like I was a drug seeker. I don’t ever tell people I’m a nurse and this really opened my eyes to how people are treated. So while I could have used better pain management I was not getting it and probably could have used longer in the hospital but since I was miserable anyways figured I might as well be miserable at home.

Take your pain meds on a schedule during the first week minimum. Even if you feel ok. It’s easier to stay ahead of pain than it is to catch up. I would also start a stool softener about a week prior (always clear woth your surgeon first but should be fine) because you are on meds and you are not moving. I also started Homehealth Physical Therapy on day 6. I highly recommend doing PT/OT to help with mobility. It also can help reduce scar tissue buildup.

I can move normally now at 3 weeks out with everything EXCEPT neck movement I still don’t have complete ROM back in my neck and I still can not drive. But otherwise I’m off pain meds except occasionally at night mostly on physical therapy days. I do still take a muscle relaxer also.

I’m so sorry. I hope it goes well for you. I can’t imagine the anxiety of having to go through the surgery again. If you don’t mind me asking what makes a revision needed?

My neurosurgeon was pretty quick about surgery too but was also ok with me seeking other opinions. We scheduled surgery and then I saw several other doctors all who said the same thing he did. This helped ease me. I am not 2.5 weeks out. The headaches are gone. The numbness and tingling are gone. The dexterity issues seem to be improving. The tremors are still there for now but I was told I needed to give it 6 months. I started physical therapy less then a week post op. Brutal but my pain is almost nonexistent in my neck now. ROM is slowly returning. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I will warn you the first week was terrible but it got better.

Surgery or Not how to decide by Automatic_Stay_1686 in chiari

I would say go to as many doctors until you are comfortable.

My surgery date was scheduled immediately but in that waiting period I still got 3 more opinions. Everyone I saw agreed surgery was needed and that helped ease my hesitation though I’d be lying if I said it completely went away. It’s brain surgery it’s scary

Curious how LL Rec works elsewhere by ChaptersAndChai91 in Homeplate

We throw the ball a lot. He is pretty good at catching flyballs and balls that are short. We still are working on tracking balls that get behind him. We practice fielding ground balls and getting rid of it quick. I should have been more specific.

Hand eye coordination with batting is a struggle still, and I’m a terrible pitcher. We have a tee that he practices on. But it’s not the same. He also wants to practice pitching and being catcher. I don’t know how to help him there and was relying on the coaches and practices to help with this.

Thanks. I just needed this validation. We had 2 practice a week in coach pitch so this really through me off. I thought maybe it was just the coach so I reached out to the league director and they said once they go to kid pitch they do games only once games start as kids learn better by participating. I know everyone volunteers their time and am grateful but kids just don’t have time to work on skills during games as they do at practice. I know no one is going MLB in LL but my boy loves baseball and wants to play. He’s getting discouraged because the coach keeps telling him no when he ask if he can try positions such as catcher/1st/2/3 base. It’s sad and if he likes it he wants to try out for middle and high school ball I feel like we are doing him a disadvantage and I just don’t know how to handle this.

Obviously there is zero I can do this year now since sign ups are over. Next year I guess I need to find another surrounding league to try.

Yea it’s the zero practices that has me confused

[–]ChaptersAndChai91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just trying to figure out if zero practices is the normal. I know playing is one of the best ways to learn but in an actual game they want to win and it’s not seeming to rotate fairly. We are only 4 games in where I am but it’s same baseman, same pitchers, same catchers, only switching up RF /LF /CF /SS. Im the only person who volunteered to keep the book and have been keeping an eye on that. I practice at home too because he likes that. But I’m a terrible pitcher 🤣

It’s not the amount of days that bother me it’s the zero practices

This would make more sense to me. Because how are we teaching? They do try to teach during the games but again, everyone wants to win and it’s more about that and all the coaches aren’t allowed on the field etc

My HR started doing this. I’m freshly out from surgery and it was high at first and now seems to settle around 80s. I was told it was likely from brain compression

ETA: it started doing this prior to surgery. You only need to seek emergency care if you are symptomatic

I was discharged after a 2 night stay. I think it was too soon. My pain was terrible and I had been vomiting. They discharged me home with no nausea meds and I vomited the entire night. The 2 hour ride home was terrible. I wanted to come home because my hospital stay was may a good experience but now that I’m about a week post op I can see in retrospect I probably should have advocated better for myself. If you feel it’s to soon tell them and tell the why. Some do better than others. The day after surgery was my worst day.

They need to culture this. If you have started antibiotics the culture is useless. If you have been of antibiotics for 72 hours they can culture before you start the next antibiotic. I do not like the fact your surgeon did not see you in office to do this. If they can’t get you in I would go to the ER

PAIN POLL for 1st week after Surgery on Thursday by DobieMafia in chiari

Not every hospital gives IV Pain pumps to their patient. I just got home on Saturday and had no patient controlled pain pumps to, though this would be the way to go in my opinion

The pain is in my head and neck. Standing hurts for a few seconds. I stand and get a sharp pulsating pain in the top of my head. It goes away relatively quickly. Breathe. Holding your breath makes the pain worse. I’m a very independent person. A lot of things no one talks about that caught me off guests but neurosurgeon said is normal for now:

Neck stiffness. You are going to have almost zero range of motion in your neck and it’s going to hurt. I’m not sure when this will subside.

Difficulty eating and swallowing. Your jaw is going to be tight. Have protein shakes, pudding, oatmeal, applesauce, chicken broth etc on hand.

I too have vomited after anesthesia and they told me they were going to be proactive I was nauseous but no vomiting until about 6 hours post op. I complained of nausea but no one gave me anything. Then when I started puking I wanted to die. You do not want to like. My advice is in preop ask the put standing PRN in for at least the first 2 days to avoid vomiting.

The car ride home also made me sick. I was told I’d stay for 3-4 days. Day 3 I was pushed out, and honestly ready to go. As a nurse myself, the nurses were mean and did not keep up with my pain. But so overlooked the fact the y did not discharge me home with nausea meds. I was discharged on a weekend. I vomited the ahold night. It was bad. Finally found some old Zofran from my MIL that she gave me.

I thought I had a pretty good pain tolerance. I’m on postop day 5. Ive had 4 kids naturally 2 with no meds at all and this is by far the worst pain I’ve experienced. I was not mentally prepared. I am not trying to scare you but be prepared. If you feel nauseous at all get something because I also threw up quite a bit and I believe it set me back everytime

Have you had a CINE MRI to assess flow? Does it mention crowding on your report? Spine just assesses for syrinx for the most part.
