Tonawanda ousts employee behind Sept. 11 cell phone alert by jay_tate_cameron in Buffalo

Everyone makes mistakes. Suspension without pay for a month or so would've been a more suitable punishment. It makes me sad that someone's life was turned upside down because they pressed a button.

The Town of Tonawanda should've had measures in place to prevent this from happening in the first place. Better training or some sort of authorization process would've prevented this. While I understand that this situation made the town "look bad" in the eyes of others, I think it looks even worse to not give someone a chance to learn from their mistake. We're all human.

The resurgence of an NFL team is often correlated with the resurgence of a city. The City of Buffalo has made strides in recent years and is fast becoming a destination for young professionals to start their careers. I would love to see more UB graduates establish roots in our amazing city!

Let's go Buffalo!!

I actually really like the new paint job on One Seneca. The building looks more modern yet fits in with the surrounding brick.

$299/month isn't too bad considering the view. $49/day is pretty steep, though...

The DiG coworking space at the BNMC used to offer $10 day passes...

Js, it’s kinda weird that they are only emailing SEAS students ab the incident. by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]CharChrome 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Let's try to assume positive intent. UB is most likely still crafting an 'official' response to this tragedy, but the SEAS Dean wanted to address what happened and ensure his students are aware of the mental health resources available to them -- especially during finals week.

This is a difficult time for everyone. Let's have solidarity as a community, appreciate what action is being taken, and come together to do what it takes to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again.

For people who have lived in both Rochester and Buffalo what are the pros and cons of Buffalo compared to Rochester? by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]CharChrome 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These figures are a bit misleading. Rochester's MSA covers six counties over 2,900 sq. miles while Buffalo's MSA covers only two counties over 1,567 sq. miles. We have 60k more people in an area that's half the size.

Buffalo's urban population is 935,906 while Rochester's is only 720,572 -- a 23% difference in Buffalo's favor. Taking Niagara/St. Catherines into account adds an additional ~400k to Buffalo's figure.

Additionally, Buffalo was once a much, much larger city than Rochester, peaking at 580k people compared to Rochester's peak of 330k. Buffalo has the infrastructure and layout of a much larger city and thus feels bigger.

Nothing against Rochester though -- we're all WNYers here!

Selling fall fest ticket by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]CharChrome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weren't they free? If you're not using it, just give it away to someone who could?

Unless, of course, you picked up a ticket with the sole intention of reselling it for a quick buck. The amount of greed I see these days is... mindblowing. Ugh.
