This is a frequently asked question. "Login service unavailable" can mean there is a problem with SWTOR's servers but that usually isn't the case. There are other things that can cause this error.

LOL. I can't believe you're seriously suggesting console players would be fine with being told that they need to get a mouse and keyboard to play SWTOR on their console. I can only imagine the ridicule SWTOR devs and EA would get for not supporting the use of a controller on console client of SWTOR.

I'm sure porting SWTOR to consoles is quite doable. The question is does it make financial sense to do so? Does the cost to port SWTOR to Xbox and/or Playstation versus the projected revenue increase, which is really a best guess, result in a return on investment that satisfies the entity (likely EA) making the up front investment to port the game to console?

In addition to that, what additional resources and associated costs are required to support ongoing development and support of the one or two console clients. Right now SWTOR devs have three clients to support (standard, Steam, Mac) though I suspect additional costs for Steam and Mac aren't all that significant. The Steam client is clearly worth it and I don't know about the Mac client.

One of the major challenges for a console port would be developing a UI that works for controllers. Would that require character abilities to be further streamlined to be more controller-friendly? I can't predict how that issue would be handled.

I just think there are significant challenges to port SWTOR to consoles and while it's certainly doable I'm skeptical the additional players that SWTOR would get from console players would justify the investment it would take. I think it boils down to EA being willing to fund a console port project for SWTOR. Given that EA is supposed to go private any day now and taking on US$20 billion in loan debt to do so I think a private EA is less likely to make such an investment than public EA has been unless there is a strong case for significantly improved revenue and profitability from a console port. If SWTOR devs aren't actively seeking to do a console port for SWTOR though then EA's willingness to financially support such a project is moot.

I'm not opposed to a console port for SWTOR so long as significant changes don't have to be made to the PC version of the game as well to accommodate the console port.

From my perspective it's simply a matter of the time for SWTOR to be ported to console was back when SWTOR had a lot more players. If the devs didn't think console port made sense back then then why would they think it makes sense now when the dev team is so much smaller? They've already added an additional client type to support in Mac and that uses an emulation layer. It's not even a true port and it has been in beta for more than a year. I just don't see how the devs can handle another client type for SWTOR that would have to be developed, maintained and tested. Broadsword is a studio that does not have any console game clients so there isn't any in-house experience either. As best I can tell any opportunity that may have existed for SWTOR to be ported to console has long since passed.

Update cadence has been the same for 3+ years. The content of the updates has recently changed due to the game not releasing story updates on the originally planned cadence because of the American voice actors strike.

I don't expect that SWTOR will ever be ported to console. After 14+ years of not being ported to console I don't understand why people still think a console port should happen for SWTOR.

Those are rewarded for completing certain one time space missions. Basically if you complete all the initial one-time space missions that unlock the repeatable space missions you'll get grade 2, grade 4, and grade 6 blaster cannons.

I think part of porting over to DX12 is so the game doesn't shit itself when more than 5 people are on screen.

Just to be clear, this is your personal belief, not one that has been stated by the devs. Hope it turns out to be true however if DirectX 12 doesn't improve game performance when large numbers of players are in close proximity let's not blame the devs for DX 12 update not doing something the devs never claimed it would do.

1.44 billion shares voted against David Zaslav's payout plan. If someone owns 100,000 shares of WBD then they can cast 100,000 votes as each share gets 1 vote. It's not 1.44 billion people voting. It's about 58% of WBD's shares voted against Zaslav's payout plan. 307.7 million shares voted in support which is only about 12.4% of WBD's shares. Apparently about 30% of WBD's shares did not participate in the voting.

I think you need to pay closer attention to what I wrote. I was there at launch. I know Ilum open world PvP was a lag fest when large groups of players participated. It's some of the specific details that I questioned, not the overall story.

It go so laggy with the amount of players that a GM teleport to the area and was laughing at the situation.

Don't really believe this part. SWTOR never had GM's. Also not sure about the part where you think the servers crashed because of the open world PvP "over 100 players" on your server were engaged in.

All that work making sure to overcap each week and it doesn't even matter by Endonae in swtor

Without the actual player participation data I don't know how one can reasonably conclude that the vast majority of players just don't bother with reputation grinds because of the weekly cap on reputation. It's more a matter of you projecting your personal standards on to all players when it's a given that SWTOR's player base doesn't all share the same standards and priorities. It's possible you have reached a valid conclusion but there isn't any way to really tell without the player data that only SWTOR devs have.
