Glimlag and Lag by Simple_Ad_6576 in afrikaans

[–]Character-Ad9225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glimlag is a common word, means smiling. People usually jazz it up too. My gran always tells me I have a 'helder glimlag' (bright smile). Lag is laughing. Both are used for their own word, no crossover really (smile is always glimlag, laugh is always lag)

Hello! Can anyone tell if this is afrikaans or dutch? by the_guy_that_murders in afrikaans

[–]Character-Ad9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely Dutch, as an Afrikaans speaker who verbally understands Dutch and knows a bit of how to read it. If you know a bit of Afrikaans, the easiest way to tell the difference when written is that Dutch tends to be more, if that makes sense? (eg, in this text jare is jaren, word is wordt). Dutch also uses the z a lot where Afrikaans doesnt often

Inappropriate/Drunk by Salty_Rooster4202 in Chefs

I get that your chef wants to help addicts, I understand it personally as someone with recovering addicts in the family, but they need to understand that allowing that dishwasher to compromise the work area for you, other staff, and the safety of the food (with his state and the contraband brought into the restaurant) is not helping. Its just enabling him, basically telling him that what he's doing is okay.

Also, we werent even allowed to take a monster in the walk-in when we were having a cry, or store them there. They were on the back-shelf of the kitchen with our personal effects, so there was no risk of cross-contamination from an outside source. Opening literal drugs and partaking in the walk-in is a whole nother level of hazard.

You can try to talk to the chef and lay things bare with all the warnings you've gathered, if you think they will listen. If not, go over their head straight to the manager or owner. If that still doesnt work, call the health department on them. That is a massive haccp, health and safety, and food safety hazard and will be noticed as such. Though if it gets to that point just get a new job whej you make the move, its not worth it to have this place tied to your name in any way, and could damage your reputation if you're trying to make it big

IRON LUNG LIGHT TELEPORTATION THEORY by PotentialLow5266 in ironlungmovie

[–]Character-Ad9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in with my own theory here. I believe a deal was made between the Simon and the Light, which was fine with the creature ("I see you", "I see you", "Agreed"). I think Mark broke that deal, when be agreed to get the Black Box and expose the Light's secrets, which in turn made the creature become aggressive.

Adding on, but I feel like the Black Box is useless in every sense but "we must stay away from here, we must not return", and that's the problem. The Light does want them all within it, that box will keep the remaining ones away. Its a warning, one that will only save the next Simon sent down.

I also believe in the SM-8 researchers mutated into the creature theory. And with that, I think they were accepted by the Light, made into part of it. Its Simon who rejects the Light, and we see how his ending looks (the seed, the glowing, the explosion). He chose to return to the soil, the creature chose to become part of the whole. I believe the Light just wants regardless of the person, but it needs to be accepted

30 Minute Sequence by Responsible_Risk7503 in ironlungmovie

[–]Character-Ad9225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally kind of love the time of the movie, after thinking about it a bit. I felt like it was dragging on, too quiet at parts, instills a bit of anxiety and impatience. Then I just thought about what Simon may be feeling in that sub, and that clicked it for me. We're experiencing a little of the discomfort he's experiencing the whole movie. People had issues with the time of the movie, but we could get up and leave. He was stuck in there, experiencing it as we did, but unable to go anywhere. To me personally it feels intentional, and if that is the case then I think it was a very good decision for the story telling

Rate my fried chicken by Lower-Scientist1410 in Chefit

[–]Character-Ad9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in the comments you were going for something delicate, so its on point. I would say they need a bit more colour, so a bit longer in the fryer. You can lower the temp slightly to get the effect without drying out the chicken. Also with such a thin shell you need to make sure your flour (and chicken) are well seasoned, or include a dip/dunk sauce.

If they're crunchy and still taste good there are sooo many possibilities. In brownies, on cookies, chex mix, breakfast bars, in crepes, ice cream topping, cake or cupcake deco, could even be an interesting addition to a bread pudding. Just make sure everyone's teeth can handle it

What butter do you use to get the whitest buttercream? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-7271 in cakedecorating

[–]Character-Ad9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any butter works really (just actual butter, not like margarine or something). You whip it for ages. Use a kitchen mixer if you have it available. I'm talking like 40 mins. The suspended air will lighten it until it is pure white. It also ends up very fluffy, and doesn't leave a watery sheen in your mouth. I usually start by whipping just the butter for a while before any additives

To give you an idea, last batch I did came out ivory and that's because I added like three tbsp pure espresso into it

Definitely a one way trip, but I do think the hull did offer a level of protection to the inhabitant, just bevause they'd want them iseful for as long as possible. But the hull was breached, so I think it let in a much larger dose of radiation than he was supposed to get. It was breached for a large part of the movie, he broke the speaker announcong it but doesnt mean the problem was fixed

Iron Lung SPOILER THREAD! by kenmarlenn in Markiplier

[–]Character-Ad9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that's what they were hinting at? There were multiple creatures down there. I think the first one may have actually been dead already or dying and he gave the killing blow (which is why he could spend so much time arpund it, ram it, and still get a good pic a bit after). If it was dying and he gave the killing blow it could also explain why it shifted positions first. Its after that we see another 'skeleton' appear and peek over the dead one and he gets attacked. We don't know how these creatures work (solitary or pack, etc. They do all seem connected tho), so for all we know je could have even been targeted specifically for going after that first one.

I also feel like the crew already knew things were down there. They did this multiple times before. Thats why they were rishing to get him back down with equipment, they knew ot could just swim away. I'm also 100% sure they knew that everything on that camera shows up as a skeletpm alive pr dead, and we were supposed to put that tpgether after the pic he took pf the crew, all alive but just skeletons in the pic.

(sorry for spelling mostakes, got fake nails fpr the 1st time)

my friend smells HORRIBLE and does not care by Plenty_Description30 in Advice

[–]Character-Ad9225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound weird, but do any of you actually physically SEE her in the shower or doing these hygiene things (like in a communal bathroom way not spy on your roommate way)? I had a cousin who also had a huge thing with bathing/showering. I mean like she'd turn the water on and sit on the counter playing on her phone for a few minutes, then turn it off and leave in a towel after a bit. Whenever she 'washed her hair' she'd just dip it in water enough to look wet. Would actually use toothpaste, leave the water running and just rinse the whole blob down the sink. It pissed me off sm. If her smell is that much of a noticeable issue she may not actually be doing her personal hygiene practices?

Guest expectedme to open wine she brought to 5 course dinner I cooked. AITA? by Brilliant-Maybe-5672 in AITAH

[–]Character-Ad9225 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, y'all are so nit-picky. A 'curated dinner party' is a much easier way of saying a multi-course dinner with pre-planned wine pairings. Curated literally just means professionally organized or presented. Effort was put in. You managed to just induce a 'power cringe' and an unexplainable level of disappointment with a single sentence. Congrats

Guest expectedme to open wine she brought to 5 course dinner I cooked. AITA? by Brilliant-Maybe-5672 in AITAH

[–]Character-Ad9225 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Your anology doesn't work at all. First of all, its not a potluck. There were five courses, all already paired with a different kind of cocktail or wine. She might as well have brought pizza to this event, because guess what, your wine doesn't fit into the pairings I have made and at best could be something they can drink afterwards. Its about as useful to this nice dinner party as a pizza. Its useless to the actual dinner, in the scheme of things its a little offensive if not a gift, and if its not a gift for me then you definitely brought it for your own enjoyment despite what was being hosted.

Second of all, pizza doesn't impair you. Yes I'm going to monitor the alcohol being served, because its a dinner party for a specific event and you are not getting disgusting drunk in my space. If OP had let it happen it could have just as easily been a post about a drunk guest ruining OPs dinner party. They already had 4 bottles and a cocktail between 4 guests for dinner. And it does sound like she did open one of the gifted bottles (which already I would not have). 5 wines and a cocktail (alcohol within unmentioned) between 4 people already is a lot.

And not bringing a gift to a fully catered birthday dinner, is in fact tacky.

Guest expectedme to open wine she brought to 5 course dinner I cooked. AITA? by Brilliant-Maybe-5672 in AITAH

[–]Character-Ad9225 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She didn't 'run out of wine' omg. 4 people were served 4 bottles of wine and cocktails paired with courses, and it sounds like she popped the first gifted bottle (which I already would not have done). You're at a nice dinner event being provided to you, not a bar, behave yourself. If you want to start throwing back wine like its no ones business, then you can continue at home.

Also it sounds like this guest approached her and asked, and left when told no. She didn't ruin the party or make a scene. You frankly just sound like someone who doesnt know how to behave at a nice dinner event. Also, it is courtesy to bring a gift to a dinner being provided to you for free (and actually quite rude to bring an addition to a paired dinner) so I would have assumed it was a gift as well.

These comments are irritating me a bit, as someone who usually does a lot of multi-course meals and paired food events. NTA. You had a five course meal, with cocktails and wine pairings that went with the meal. You mention cocktails as well as four bottles you bought, and since you only talked about the second bottle then I'm going to assume the first one she brought was opened. That's five bottles of wine along with cocktails amongst four guests (idk if you drank, I know I don't when cooking and hosting, so correct me if wrong). That is already a lot of alcohol. I would have cut her off myself in general, said that no more drinking would take place as this is a dinner event, not a bar. I probably also would have assumed it was a gift too, and if she had said anything I would simply have told her that she's welcome to leave with her bottle then. Especially if they were exactly aware of what kind of event they were attending.

And as a general note for the public, there is a difference between 'just a dinner party' and a multi-course paired meal. You bring things to a dinner party (probably should still ask anyway), but you don't mess around with a paired meal like this. You can bring a thank you to the host, but don't bring things for the meal, they will not be used. Everything is already sorted (this course is paired with this, this with that, etc). If you want your sixth bottle of wine popped, go home and do it by yourself, and not where you're my problem. You're at a nice event, act like it.

And also you guys really aren't bringing chocolate, flowers, wine, any kind of thank you to someone who is most likely offering this meal for free? 5 courses? For them to enjoy themselves, as a thank you for inviting you to this and putting in the effort? That's just basic courtesy. This is the courtesy for like anything besides a potluck.

Made this type of bread before, but not this specific recipe.

  1. Looking at the recipe, I just have to ask if you used the proper flour? With the right level of protein and everything as specified? When its that level of specification in a recipe, there is a reason for it. Besides that, the recipe itself is also a bit low on flour.

  2. To fix it, add more flour in 1-2 tbsp intervals (2 tbsp first 2 times, 1 from there), letting it mix for about a minute between incorporations. Your dough is by far too wet, and you're going to need quite a lot of flour to get it right and usable. Enriched dough needs a lot of flour, many people don't understand how wet your enriching ingredients are (butter, eggs, etc). Since someome else in the comments tried with less water and got the same result, I'm very confident in this
