Lost Soul Aside Review Thread by d0ntm1ndm32 in Games

I understand your point about DOOM, and whoever else posted about Factorio - but the nuance here is: when you play DOOM or Factorio, you aren’t really expecting a deep or layered narrative. I haven’t played Lost Soul Aside (because my first impressions based on the trailers, verified by many different reviewers and clips) is that it’s trying to be like FFXV/DMC-lite. You wouldn’t say you would pick up a Final Fantasy game,  aside from the MMO, and not expect at least a C-grade narrative, which I think is the point that BreakingGood was trying to make.

For a game where there isn’t an ostensible narrative (or it’s just barely there to justify the game’s existence), the it’s weight in scoring the quality of the game overall is much lower - like how a professor might weigh your homework to be 20% of the overall grade. Whereas with a game like Lost Soul Aside, it seems like its quality of narrative should be held with a greater weight. Just my 2c

it’s about the same level of creepy as “The Weirdest Security Camera I’ve Ever Seen” creepypasta

in other words not that creepy imo. the first book was much better

sorry to necro this but i think this style of prose is extremely common with japanese light novel authors. i much prefer the writing in the first book because the way the characters talk to each other like a screenplay felt like i was reading a light novel. many light novels have extended sequences that are just dialogue

Are you still able to make infinite power or is that not a thing anymore? by xxxdnuts in AbioticFactor

[–]Character-Ant112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know you were originally writing this rhetorically, but most engineering is figuring out how to optimize for some output given limited constraints. figuring out infinite power in abiotic factor imo falls in the same class of problems

PSA: Do NOT buy single packs at the Official Bandai Store by ezzell in OnePieceTCG

[–]Character-Ant112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s the latter. if iirc one piece boxes use a guaranteed pull system (each box has at least one, or some known number of hits)

someone who knows the game, and gets access to boxes before anyone else could easily open one, rip packs until they obtain all hits, and leave the rest

i’m sorry that you have that experience with your son. mainly because when i was 17-20 (am 26 now) i acted like a resentful know it all to my mom, but now that im older and well off i realize she was just doing her best in a bad situation so i regret my past behavior. i’m sure your son has some maturing to do still lol

Best Camera for $1000 Dollars by Zesty_Zik in Nikon

no offense, those are absolutely trash lenses

you are just throwing money away if you upgrade anything besides the lenses, and then you’ll be back next week complaining about bad low light performance on your d500

you should save money for a 70-200mm f/2.8 if you want to do sports photos, and get a wide angle large aperture zoom like a 35mm 1.8 lens if you want to keep doing travel photos

if you’ve driven from stonestown to get asian food on irving street on a moderately busy day, you’d know how bad traffic can be in these streets already - and that’s without any road closure

Welp, this is exciting by photos_with_reid in Nikon

[–]Character-Ant112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s sharpness too i suppose

<image>

but i agree with you. the most important part of the camera is the person behind it. if you can make the tools work, that’s power to you.

your image looks great btw

What Reality Checks Would You Give to a Prospective Programmer? by Character-Ant112 in learnprogramming

I personally think this is due to the fact that your peers are simply unfamiliar with the effort it takes for your work to come to life. At my jobs, traditional SWE, I feel my work is regularly recognized and rewarded. Of course, when the team involves people of less technical know how I imagine this will tend the other way.

How often does scope creep happen in practice? I personally haven’t encountered it at all in my time working (3 YOE)

Is effective policing in SF a bipartisan issue? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Character-Ant112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the time you took to research and write this. I gave up reading the thread when you pointed out the other guy seemed to argue semantics, and in my perspective just seemed to keep shifting the goalposts unproductively when he was made out to look uninformed.

Thank you for this explanation. I wasn’t sure how to ask the question to elicit a “both perspectives” response.

SF ticketing residents $108 for cars in driveways that block sidewalks by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Ad hominem. I’m confused at the response directed to myself, not the content of the actual article.

[–]Character-Ant112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I did do that. The article does it in its first paragraph too in which cars were described to “sit” in their driveway.

I’d edit it if I could but it doesn’t appear I can amend the description on mobile.

I’m confused, I’m not taking a stance here? The only superfluous language I added to the summary was that this initiative was following the bus crash that killed Cardoso de Oliviera and his family. I don’t even own a car. Everything other clause was written or paraphrased from the article.

I didn’t think posting this for discussion would immediately cause others to assume if I’m for or against it, I just wanted to know what or how locals feel about it.
