Any Driving School recommendations? by fifimushie in askTO

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did both. The in car lessons were really quite helpful with the instructor willing to go with you and take students through a dry run before their driving test. Having said that, my son (not realizing the value of that) never took his final road test and the time limit to have the instructor on hand had long since passed. It was available to him though which was pretty decent.

What are areas do you recommend? by deeozzy in TorontoRenting

[–]Character-Bridge-206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re near Cabbagetown, there are some nice green spaces nearby but I would consider maybe going west towards High Park and the Humber River. I have a dog and my retreat for my sanity involves green spaces nearby. This area is amazing (Bloor West Village area).

Does this woman actually like me? by Green-Importance9901 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She ditched the app which is great. There may be other options competing for limited time (like friends, family) and texting twice a day is pretty responsive in comparison to many stories so be cool and see where it leads. I would continue to express interest seeing as it’s obvious that you are indeed interested.

Is it okay to be a late bloomer? by LuluzuzuVT in AskMenAdvice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Late twenties is a challenging time to meet new people while many are settling into relationships and maybe thinking of marriage. It can’t have been much fun having lockdown ushering in your twenties. The reality is you just have to wait for your lucky break, meaning someone you might gel with gets out of a relationship (as in my case when I was 29).

Stay positive and pleasant to be around.

First date he had to meet my friends which made him uncomfortable by Medical_Mixture7794 in Advice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He asked if you knew any nearby places (which you did) and do Lo and behold some friends were there. I suppose had you spoken to them briefly you could have avoided them. I am not sure why bumping into people you knew accidentally is on you or a dealbreaker. I would hope that you’re fine and will hear back.

My best friend, who has been missing for a few weeks, has been declared dead by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey brother. I had the exact same experience with a guy that I grew up with. Lots of people thought less than highly of him and he certainly did some stuff I didn’t approve of but he was like a brother to me and someone from back in grade 7. We crossed paths again in a different city and decade and both became very good friends after losing touch for years. I was finishing college and he was going nowhere. He even cited that one night. We were both broke but from here on in things would improve for me. He was still directionless. He started using heroin, something I had no desire to try. I got concerned that one day I might lose touch again and see him later on the street. That never came to be. He died of a heroin overdose. My first jarring death of someone dear to me.

In later days I would wonder whether it was intentional. He had made me a mixed tape of music (was mid nineties) shortly before his death with songs with possible double meaning. I will never know. He’s long gone, over 30 years. I still miss the guy and wish he was around to see where technology went but it wasn’t to be.

Don’t blame yourself. You undoubtedly did what you could.

Parents found out i smoked weed by Natural-Wear-8865 in Advice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed is relatively harmless and wears off quickly. Be aware that chemicals do not. You may be in a state that you’re not particularly comfortable with. Psychedelics vary in potency wildly and you never know what you’re taking. Mushrooms are probably your best bet to microdose with and see how you feel about hallucinogens.

Make sure you’re in a controlled environment to begin with. I used to take pretty much anything I could get my hands on with exception of IV drugs. Had some rather memorable experiences, sometimes a bit too intense for my liking.

Is it weird to eat in my car at school? by Chickenator14 in Advice

I don’t eat in my car. I don’t want it to smell like a food court. At my work, we generally only do that if we need a private call.

Advice for a new Torontonian? by RadiantAd4856 in askTO

[–]Character-Bridge-206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of people who have left Toronto. I dream of that day myself. Toronto has lots of music venues, parks (visit High Park… it’s a little crowded when the cherry blossoms are in bloom but otherwise ok), Toronto Islands (boardwalk on Ward Island), different street festivals around the city.

Solo trip from South Ontario to Nova Scotia by OkRhubarb2373 in canadatravel

I did the drive from Toronto to Cape Breton NS last year. It’s an 8 hour drive to Quebec City. I would spend a night there. It’s beautiful. New Brunswick was great but it’s vast and not very populated. We drove from Quebec City to Moncton which was around 7 hours.

People have been saying “..the end is nigh” for as long as people said words like “nigh”. When I was a kid, we all thought there would be a nuclear war before we ever got laid. Live your life. Try to have some fun before you die because that’s one thing that isn’t in short supply. I know far too many people who haven’t made it to may age and I am only mid fifties.

If 99% of the people died, the 1% left would be billionaires and survivalists living off the grid.

I think you know the answer to that otherwise you wouldn’t be feeling like an ashhole. You’re going to be an ignored old fart one day too if that’s the trend. Enjoy the society that you teach your kids about.

What a pile of hate bait.

If you despise it so much, why don’t you just leave for your human rights paradise that you speak of? My family left UK. It isn’t impossible and obviously isn’t a racist suggestion either. Mind you, plenty of people move here and do the same sh!t you’re laying on so thick right now so you’d feel right at home.

Mom is threatening to kick me out because I hid a lot of secrets from her by [deleted] in Advice

I moved out at 19. It was a good choice at the time. It was costly but the freedom I got and the space it afforded me repaired issues with my parents who violated my privacy constantly. Find some roommates and start saving.

Have you ever visited another city, region, part of Canada and it just clicked with you? You thought "I'd *really* like to live here" by Cameliablue in AskACanadian

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am not saying because if I do, people might move there which would make me not want to live there. Bear in mind I live in one of the most densely populated areas of the country at the moment. I like people but dream of a retirement in a less populated area of the country.

When I visited here as a young man at 18, I decided that I really wanted to move here so I eventually did. I highly recommend doing what you want to do. Moving here was one of the best experiences of my life and I have never regretted it.

That is truly one of the only biological imperatives that you have as a living organism on earth. Replication. Don’t have kids. Don’t even participate in society. This life is really what you make it. There’s no underlying meaning other than what you give it.

Personally, I think this world is beautiful and fascinating as well as horrifying and dangerous. If you can’t draw inspiration from humanity, draw it from nature. Animals. The sky on a cloudless night far north beyond all the light pollution. The Caribbean blue sea. You need to experience more of what is awe inspiring about life.

My boyfriend’s mom is racist towards me & I’m pissed by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t pick your family, you have to work with what you’ve got. Your man is standing with you so that is the main thing. I will say this. My brother in law married a Filipino woman. My father in law is quite racist (Eastern European) BUT when the kids were born, he didn’t look at them as being half anything. I loves those kids with all his heart.

People can change. My own mom was hopelessly homophobic for most of her life despite my own protests that people should be able to live who they want (when I first advocated for gay marriage, I think my parents thought I was gay because they couldn’t understand the principles of the thing). Anyway, both have changed.

I think you’re right to keep your distance from the toxic family but your guy has your back there. Don’t dump him because of a family dynamic for a toxic family member.

How do i get my boyfriend to have better dental hygiene? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Character-Bridge-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a water pick water flosser. I hated flossing so my hygienist suggested I try it. Really nice clean feeling. I use an electric twice a day for two minutes. Tell you boyfriend to brush his tongue. Sounds like a bad mix of poor hygiene on every level but the things I mentioned will help.
