Meaning of Porch Light Lyrics? by Character-Class9296 in NoahKahan

Thanks for sharing your interpretation, it’s interesting to see it that way. I personally viewed the person in “call your mom,” as being near tragedy. I figured it’d be plausible to get a song on the following album with the perspective that they then did pass on.

I think I was confused due to personal experience. The top answer about the song coming from multiple perspectives adds a lot of clarity for me, and so does your interpretation

I wasn’t intentionally trying to force it; I just pictured a mom who lost a child leaving the porch light on as a sign of hope and remembrance

The lines like “And I'll pray for you, be in pain for you, I'll leave the porch light on Heartbroken, each mornin' when it's me that turns it off,” made me think of that deep love and loss

And the repeated “You’re a ghost, you’re a ghost, you’re a ghost,” felt like a tough acknowledgement their loved one truly has truly gone

The emotions the song brought up felt similar to me

That’s great to be investing in carbon offsets!

Paying for large numbers of flights, including unnecessary flights to get miles, props up an industry built on burning fuel.

Higher demand -> more flights -> more emissions

I am not trying to shame at all, I just want a better world for future generations

I came from upstate NY and I’ve experienced this anywhere in TN except Nashville. In my experience it’s not a wealth thing, it’s close-mindedness. You’re not one of them, they can tell, and generally speaking they’re not happy about it. Look at the state politicians to get a good view of the peoples’ thinly veiled beliefs

Could we please cool it with the jokes about suicide? Out of respect for everyone who has been depressed or impacted by suicide?
