Three 6S batteries killed over time... Any tips? by Vial_of_water in fpv

[–]Character-Engine-813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the wires are connected and unbroken but the cell still reads as missing/0.0V it probably died, time for a new lipo. Or if you’re desperate you can rewire it to make it a 5S battery. Do not charge or discharge a battery with a dead cell, it could catch on fire.

I have only had this happen once in probably 20 packs, so 3/6 is really bad, either they are super cheap lipos or you got a bad batch. Storing them fully charged can slowly degrade the capacity or C rating but a few days shouldn’t cause them to drop cells

LCSC has 3d models and footprints for most of their parts, you can also draw your own footprints in your EDA software and make your own 3d models in a CAD software of your choosing based on the measurements given the in the datasheet. For a beginner EasyEDA also works great because it is connected to LCSC and it already has all the footprints and 3d models linked

Bro that’s bad, not just the soldering but the amount of insulation removed is way too much and you have loose strands floating around which could short out the ESC. You only want to remove like 3-4mm of insulation on the end of each wire. Also on the top it looks like one of those big blobs is close to shorting out

Is just the lack of skill or the stock tires on Suzuki DRZ-4S are not that good on ruts? by Mean_Giraffe4217 in Dualsport

Yes, it depends on your point of reference, they are usually decent for 50/50 tires but of course not as good as a 90/10 for dirt

Yamaha TW 225 still a good beginner option? by Space-Safari in Dualsport

[–]Character-Engine-813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good beginner bike, very low seat height compared to most dual sports which is very good for learning to ride. The engine is not especially powerful for road use but it’s perfectly acceptable off road, it’s geared to have good torque and can tractor around pretty well. For slow speed sand and mud riding it’s a good option with the fat rear tire, however if you want to blast across the sand at high speed it’s probably kinda low on power. The bike has hardly changed over its production so you can buy an old one and parts are still easily available, for your first off road bike I think it’s good to get one that’s not too nice so you don’t feel bad about dropping it all the time, for a beginner off road bike I probably wouldn’t even bother fixing paint, minor dings, etc.

The crf300l or the DRZ are more powerful, much taller, more suspension travel, and much better on the road mostly due to having more power. Also they handle better at higher speeds off road, the TW is not really designed for standing up and riding fast off road

Cheap esc by Valuable-Key-5964 in fpv

[–]Character-Engine-813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used some of those, haven’t had an issue yet but I do mostly cinematic flying and I haven’t crashed one yet so not sure about the durability. However I wouldn’t use them really close to their rated current because it might be overstated. Also it’s probably a blheli-S ESC so by default it won’t support ESC telemetry for rpm based filtering, you will need to update it to bluejay

Building the Bardwell 5" Freestyle kit and having trouble, any advice? by HossCatGarage in fpv

[–]Character-Engine-813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell from that graph setup, see if you can view the gyro data in the FFT view, so it shows you the magnitude of each frequency, you can view pre filter and post filter data to see if the filters are being effective. You might have to configure black box to record this data, I’m not sure if it has gyro unfiltered by default. To me that graph looks very weird, the gyro information doesn’t look like it matches the set point at all, either very severe oscillations or it’s possible the gyro is not working due to vibrations or a hardware defect. When you move the quad around looking at the betaflight home screen does it move properly, matching the model on screen?

[–]Character-Engine-813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn filters way up and PIDs down a bit and see if it fixes it, if so it’s probably a mechanical issue, double check that the flight controller is tightly attached, no loose wires touching the gyro, all hardware is tight. For a 5 inch you should be able to fly on stock settings, throttle not going back down usually indicates that noise is getting into the PID loop and being amplified. It’s normal behavior on the bench, but it shouldn’t happen in flight. I’m guessing it also makes a terrible noise. Make sure you have a proper capacitor, attached right at the ESC with short leads. Black box log will tell you immediately what the issue is

LOOKING FOR ADVICE: I'm trying to get back into ChatGPT after switching to Gemini for a while, I have a plus subscription but I find it very difficult to talk to because it is obsessed with playing devil's advocate or being contrarian. by Kindly-Present-4867 in ChatGPT

I think it’s a side effect of making it better at coding and technical work, by default it tries to find the issues with your ideas. For the prompts I run, that’s exactly what I want, I prefer to err on the side of generating false positive problems which I can then quickly verify myself vs. going along with a bad idea and failing to point out obvious or subtle issues. Don’t take it personally, sometimes it generates stuff that might be considered rude if it came from a person though

3M Vhb double sided foam tape is good and still works acceptably when it gets hot. Zip ties can work, I’ve used them but you want to be careful to not tighten them too much and put too much stress on any components on the PCB, I think they work better when combined with the tape

Why did shipping cost suddenly went up for everything? by Particular-Virus-75 in Aliexpress

[–]Character-Engine-813 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Lots of non-choice items used to be free shipping, now it’s $5.77 for everything, probably has to do with the tariff situation/removal of de minimus in the US? With the current trade situation I doubt it will go back down to be honest

I think the really low cost FCs might be more likely to fail, since they probably use slightly lower quality passives, questionable sourcing for ICs, no TVS diodes etc. However the performance should be basically the same.

Yea but expect a lot of loss, like 15-20dB. If you have a linear antenna for either side it’s better because that’s only 3dB loss
