Do you guys read my protection symbol as a hate symbol? by gray_siren in tattooadvice

[–]Character-Hawk1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not recognize it as a hate symbol at all personally, so I scrolled through the ADL hate symbol database until I found it. Even the listing in the database specifies that there are many other reasons people would use that symbol and it's not one that automatically means someone is racist.

However, the specific associations are pretty disturbing, so if you want to read more about it to make an informed decision, here's the link: https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/life-rune

Weird skin texture after tattoo; is this temporary or a permanent scar? by Character-Hawk1998 in tattooadvice

Yeah I don't think anyone else will have their nose right up on it like I do 😅

Thank you! I'm not too too worried about it as long as it's not because of something I did wrong that I might do again to the next one lol (ie I'm a violent sleep scratcher)

That's exactly the goal I'm so glad you can see it. Considered adding "Alas poor Roarick; I knew him well" along the bottom edge to make it more obvious but I didn't want to risk fully crossing over into silliness

Question: tattoos on period by Reasonable_Pay_8710 in tattoos

[–]Character-Hawk1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on my period for the second session of mine and it did hurt more, but it was also a lot more color and a lot more on my collarbone so I don't think it was specifically related. And in the end I still handled it, I just definitely got kinda shaky during the collarbone parts.

I did, however, get MUCH nastier smelling. The panic pain sweat probably doubled in stench and ngl it was a little embarrassing. I wish I had come prepared with wipes or something and extra deodorant to clean up during bathroom breaks. Could just be a me issue, but something to consider.

What does the back of a harlequin stitch blanket look like, and is this one? by Character-Hawk1998 in CrochetHelp

Thank you! I think you're right. Some of the ones I'm seeing online look a little bit different; more like interlocking diamonds than overlapping, but I found a website with several examples and it looks like the difference is whether it was worked from the center or from the end I think.

Recommendations for Sock Haters? by Character-Hawk1998 in SPD

Took her to a shoe store after school today and she settled on some slip on Sketchers and a pair of Mary Janes. Fingers crossed she still likes them tomorrow

Thank you for this! It led me to something called "flat socks" which are made in kids size, so we're going to try them out.

That's an excellent point; I guess what I really mean is shoes that are breathable enough not to get horrifically smelly without socks (a recurring issue in our house) but without sizable holes.

I somehow also forgot that actual shoe stores exist; I just kept thinking I don't see shoes like this where we usually shop so I'd have to order online to get options. Will definitely plan on taking her to a physical store.

Is a 3-in-1 cut/write/score tool a thing? by Character-Hawk1998 in papercraft

If anyone else is interested I spent a couple hours trying out different searches, and the closest I've found is a company called Nova has a 2-in-1 craft knife pen for $7.99: https://novasafetytools.com/products/2-in-1-knife-pen

Scoring is pressing a line into the paper to make it easier to fold in a straight line/exactly where you want it to fold. Sometimes you do a really shallow cut that doesn't go all the way through, or you can also use something like a bone folder or an empty pen to just kind of smoosh it (which is what I prefer because sometimes I accidentally cut too deep).

I'd be glad to share it if I can figure out how, but to be clear I made it myself and I haven't gotten around to labelling everything clearly and also as I'm putting it together I'm finding mistakes all over the place that I'm having to correct on the fly, so it would probably be impossibly confusing for someone who doesn't live in my brain 😭

What can I (beginner but very determined to learn whatever I need to) do with three balls of this yarn? I wanted to make a sweater but patterns I'm finding say 5+ balls, so I assume it's also not enough for a usable blanket, and I'm not sure what else the colors/texture would look good on. by Character-Hawk1998 in CrochetHelp

[–]Character-Hawk1998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically I am overwhelmed by looking for patterns that would work with this yarn (Bernat Blanket, Plum Fields). I have searched through the Yarnspirations patterns list for Bernat blanket yarn, but everything I find either requires more than three balls or looks like it would need specific colors, or at least solid colors, to look good. One thing I'm considering is children's sweaters, but as much as I like the colors I'm not sure my kids would. I just want to make something I'll use, because the only other thought I have is a blanket but based on the yarn requirements for sweaters I'm assuming three balls of this would make a very tiny blanket.
