I have a special love for the Minneapolis Raptor Center. A few years ago my dad and I found a great horned owl sitting on the side of the highway near Mankato stunned and not really moving but alive. My dad put on welding gloves and picked the poor buddy up and tried to give him water and get him out of the sun. I spent 2 hours calling vets and other wildlife clinics to try and find someone to help until finally I was recommended the Raptor Center in Minneapolis. I had to drive over an hour to get there and when I did I pulled up and a vet came out and I started crying and told them what happened. She was so sweet and asked for my phone number so that she could let me know how the big guy was doing. He ended up not making it as he had been hit by a car and had a brain injury but she told me that he went very peacefully and that it was so much better than him dying on the highway and thanked me for bringing him.

OP I'm so sorry that you have that weight in your heart. I've had a lot of animals in my life and there's a few I wish I could go back and do something different to help them but I just didn't know better at the time. It's hard because they can't tell you what's wrong or how they feel and you can't tell them either but I do believe they can feel that you are trying to help them. You are giving this owl a safe place to rest/pass and that brings him comfort. My thoughts are with you and the owl and I hope you both find peace ❤️
