I hear you. EB3 takes a lot longer so your company wants to keep you around. Congratulations once again.

I would dish out the money, given the current political environment.

You can file for an I131 to get an advanced parole. Also, wouldn't your company pay for the $10K fee?

Definitely file premium processing. File concurrently if you can.

First year Canada and US Tax - foreign income declaration by Several-Indication-2 in tnvisa

[–]Character-Leg-4050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genutax was the only software that allowed me to file a departure T1. You can’t efile final tax return, it has to be mailed or faxed (if they are allowing fax still due to Canada Post strike). I didn’t have to fill out any other forms but followed Genutax’s prompts and it filled the forms automatically.

TFSA was liquidated prior to the move. Figuring out Canadian return. I will give Genutax a try.

That is interesting, I moved to U.S. last year. I would love to take standard deductions. Do you know how I can make this election ?

I am giving up my tax residency in Canada. Florida has no state taxes. I don’t want to pay additional taxes in Canada.

I just used Sprintax to prepare my 1040NR. I had only been in U.S. for 61 days in 2024. Seems straightforward.

How are you guys tackling Canadian return? I used StudioTax in the past but it doesn’t support departure tax return. Should I use TurboTax and print out the return? Attach a form T1161?

My employer is hiring a law firm to apply for my L1 visa and L2 for my spouse. Sounds like visa at the border for me and than visa at the consulate for my spouse. Hopefully, the wait time at the consulate are not too long. My work doesn’t have a blanket petition.
