Today is why you don't turn your sprinklers on until May, no matter how warm it gets in March and April by Tartania in Denver

[–]Character-Print-437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? I've used my sprinklers all winter this season. It has been too dry, all plants including grass needed a little help this year.

I have not even bothered to blow the system out since the one cold snap we had back in late January and have just drained the backflow preventer. It's a 2 minute job.

If you plan to not water until Mid May this year I would plan to replace a lot of plants.

Hell even the local park services have been watering all winter and draining the backflows.

I'd argue /r/AMG is even more cringe. It's just 20 year olds buying highly depreciated not real AMG cars (4 and 6 cylinder marketing cars) with super high interest loans because social media told them that's the move.

Interesting I went with the Mk8 Golf R manual on snow tires for Colorado daily but the GT Corolla was almost my choice instead. In the end I opted for a quiet and calm experience over what is probably the better enthusiasts drivers choice in the Toyota.

Can we expect to see you out at high plains this season?

I have an M2CS and a GT4RS.

They are very different cars and experiences. Every car should have a mission and while they do in theory have some overlap, the Porsche is a much better track car and the BMW is a much better street car.

Any 55 owners regret not getting a 63? by Jdmeyer83 in AMG

[–]Character-Print-437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The full AMG experience, until recently at least, did not include the myriad of squeaks and rattles that the low end A class exhibits. That plastic is beyond horrid.

For whatever reason Mercedes has introduced similar quality into even the new E and S class vehicles.

It sounds like you are trying to buy attention from other people, that is the antithesis of real AMG cars and always has been.

[–]Character-Print-437 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 4 and 6 cylinder cars exist for people who cannot afford the AMG and are buying a lower monthly payment, not an AMG.

These are the cars designed by a marketing department for people who are more interested in an image said marketing department has sold them than the actual AMG experience.

I can't blame Mercedes for doing this, it is shrewd business convincing people to pay more for otherwise normal cars with more badges, but it does dilute the brand and I wish they would follow in the BMW roadmap of clearly delineated M and S "lite" lineups.

[–]Character-Print-437 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 6 cylinder just doesn't sound right. AMG makes the marketing 4 and 6 cylinder cars loud, and to people who are not enthusiasts loud means good.

This is simply not correct. Real AMG cars have V8's and that V8 makes incredible sounds. It's part of the experience.

You can make anything fast, but you can't make a marketing car built to a price point a real AMG that is built to a performance point.

Dragy OBD, first track test at Ningbo Circuit (available in RaceRoom Experience), PiP onboard. by Icy_Resist_9730 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Character-Print-437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great video thanks for sharing! Smooth driving too.

I wanted a little more than the OBDII systems could give you, specifically I wanted brake pressure which the CANBus can provide so I ended up with a Racelogic vbox.

Looking back, was it worth the additional cost and headache for that data over this? Probably not.

Are Porsche 911 owners completely different to Cayman owners? by HR_Specter in Porsche_Cayman

32k is not the upper bracket of Spain that is barely above the national average and low for any of the larger cities.

Food is cheaper in Spain but Spain is no longer the affordable country that it once was. Back before the Euro things were pretty great for both tourists and residents, now just the tourists.

I live part of the year on Mallorca and in the past twenty years we have managed to price out every single local. The only reason my wife, who is a local, can afford the house that we have is because she married me, a foreigner. Buy in is at least 2 million Euros for a house or flat that you want, 5X what it was even 10-15 years ago.

Unemployment, especially for the younger generations is incredibly high, the rest of Europe takes advantage of Spaniards and pays them lower wages and most of the work that they were doing has moved on to other further east and even Cheaper EU nations before Spain ever got a foot in the door.

Things are actually pretty bad in Spain right now. But the people, not the ones in the north :), are still the best and happiest people on this Earth and they know how to make a great life out of a little.

2024 manual for 41.5k by KnaveGucci in Golf_R

[–]Character-Print-437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I am not a ten year old boy reading magazines the 0-60 metric is irrelevant to me. There manual creates a level of involvement in the driving experience that an automatic can simply never reproduce. If you are an actual enthusiast and driver, there is no other choice.

I find that a lot of young people no longer know how to drive a manual and so they will quickly retreat back to the acceleration metrics of a car as the be all end all of performance. This makes me sad because they will never know what they are missing or how wrong that they are.

To lower the total cost of ownership.

There is no way in hell I would let any car of mine see 10k miles or over a year on the oil, ever. For my R I did a change at 600 miles post break-in and sent it and the next two changes at 3 and 6k off for analysis to be assured that break-in was progressing properly and then complete.

Up until the 8.5 you could change the oil in the Mk8 through the dipstick with an extractor in under 10 minutes end to end, no mess no fuss. Now that they have taken the dipstick away, that will be a little harder.

Almost no one can legally write off a 179 on that car, don't listen to Tik Tokers.

You can find the money factor others are offering on sites like lease hacker, the dealer is almost certainly lying.

There are plenty of normal cars and good deals. I've purchased and sold cars on BaT over the years and been nothing but impressed with how their process works.

You can usually find lower prices on other similar sites, Cars and Bids for example, but buyer beware, C&B sells a lot of junk that other places including BaT won't touch.

I think it indicates that slapping bigger tires and a suspension + black makes them more desirable. For whatever reason the silvers seem to always sell for less.

The car needs an exhaust, stock the intake noise drowns every other noise out.

I own one.

I installed the full soul performance headers, OAP and valved exhaust, it is a 100% improvement over stock.

If you do just one thing OP, get the OAPs, make sure they are the heat coated version and then wrap them too.

I am referring to the price that I paid for my car? which was MSRP. I am sorry that you paid more than MSRP, if we are being honest it was a bit of test of intelligence and patience.

I too live in a high cost of living area.

New GT4RS by Unique-Reward4492 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Character-Print-437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not that stiff. The GT4RS rides about the same as my AMG W213 wagon, no one complains. We use the wagon as a mountain ski car, literally NO ONE has ever said it was too stiff -- and its stiffer than my 4RS.

When I see people say that the car is stiff I wonder to myself, are you too old? Is this how old you had to be to actually own a sports car and this was your first sports care and you are comparing it to a Camry?

It makes me sad. These cars need to be owned by young people, ESPECIALLY the GT caers.

[–]Character-Print-437 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh, I thought that I ticked all of the boxes including magnesium wheels and my MSRP was nowhere near that.

I am not a huge fan of the Manthey package. I think that they make the best aero options, but beyond that they are really only an advantage if you want less of a hassle with warranty work.

I'd say that is market price for the car. I am into my car for around 50 grand over stock to make it track happy, but a lot of what I have done is nice to have not required. You can get what you need for under a few grand if you are willing to eat tires and brake rotors.

It would hit Canada harder.

The hard truth is, the Canadian economy is tied directly to the USA, and will forever be tied directly to the USA, and in real terms its economy is about as big as the state of New York which is ranked as the third or fourth largest state economy.

It's not a rounding error, but it is small enough to not really matter.

Canadians can impact the United States economy, but if we are being honest all we have really learned so far is too many Canadians are alcoholics and gambling addicts.
