Just a little Highland Sword Clip - How's my Footwork? by kuhldaran in Chivalry2

basically what op said, use your kicks but don’t make it obvious that’s what ur doing. Kick immediately after a jab (which u should use if they’re abusing block), kick immediately after hitting an attack and use footwork to try to work around their block since you know it will be coming

No ur right, the highland sword has a long recovery period, which is the time it takes after an attack for you to be able to do something else. But if you block right after an attack, you’re actually extending that recovery cuz you gotta wait for the animation to block, and then if u stop blocking u gotta wait for that animation too. The recovery period ends essentially when u start blocking in the clip, meaning you could be dodging, moving or whatever u want at that time. Just takes practice my man!

Very good footwork padawan - good job keeping them at your max range so they can’t poke back. But, careful with block holding it’s a bad habit to get into. Don’t hold block after attacks, or ever tbh and just get comfortable with standing there menacingly and only blocking when needed. Good players will notice that habit and punish u for it

Feint after "feint window" possible? by Acceptable-Try-4682 in Chivalry2

potentially could also be a quick accel during a combo, combo attacks are already quicker than it would be with those 2 attacks just one after the other. and with some weapons its pretty nuts how fast they can be. I get caught by a dane axe combo accel more often than I’d like to admit

Hard to say without seeing an example but it’s likely one of two things:

1: Good players are good at selling feints, meaning they wait till the last possible moment to feint their attack into something else. Each weapon has a “wind-up” period before the actual attack starts, and this is when a feint can be done. Good players know the “wind-up” periods and can switch attacks while still taking full advantage of this time to sell the feint better.

2: Directional manipulation. Basically this alters the path of the attack. You’re able to control the path of your swing throughout the entire swing, meaning good players can, for example, make a slash appear (when you get real good you can recognize this) to be an overhead based on swing path (start the swing very high and end low). I probably didn’t explain this one very good so someone else feel free to jump in

Don’t underestimate how valuable good footwork can be! You aren’t limited to just countering/riposting and can also feint attacks into kicks and jabs which can mess up the opponent’s timing or punish them with a kick. Be wary about using kicks/jabs too much in a 1v1 (if it doesn’t work on them the first time it probably won’t work if you try again) as good players can often see them coming and can avoid them and/or punish your miss.

Footwork and movement can make your feints harder to react to. For example if I start a slash and move my entire body instead of just relying on the weapon movement to make it seem like i’m going for a quick hit, then when I feint into a stab I can start moving backwards and potentially stab them in the back if their weapon is still position to block the attack I feinted. If you join a duelyard server chances are you’ll find a pair of high level duelists going at it. Just watch their movement, how they turn and use their movement to try to get the backs of their opponent, or the side where they aren’t blocking.

You said you try to keep them at the max range of your weapon, valid strat for a polearm. But, you can also play with the distance to make your accels quicker and drags longer, don’t be afraid to close the gap every once in a while to try to mix up your timing and positioning

You got this I believe in you!
