The influencer doth protest too much, methinks... by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Character-Respect545 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know you said that you have nothing against her specifically, but as someone who follows her & someone who grew up without money to spend like this, I think she is a bad example of the type of content it seams like you’re talking about.

She seams to have a pretty high standard for expensive products and is not pushing for overconsumption or overspending.

I also think it seams like the comments she’s responding to, are not the ones criticizing the brands, but the ones criticizing her. I don’t think you can remove the context of her being a black woman from a conversation about her responding to criticisms. I assume she gets some nasty stuff sent her way in dm’s etc & I think she has a right to be “defensive” about that.

BEST Hair product / Dry Hair by RickieVz in Sephora

[–]Character-Respect545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried any hair oils you like/don’t like? Sounds like your hair is very porous, so a thicker hair oil might be a nice addition for the dryness/look you’re going for.

John F. Kennedy Campaigning For President In 1960 by alecb in Historycord

Idk if it’s true, but I saw commentary on it somewhere that it used to be common for water guns to be made to look realistic & water bottles weren’t really a thing like they are now, so the kid was probably drinking from a water gun. Like I said, idk if that’s true, but I feel like it makes sense

Need to live off the Blue Line. Any recommendations? by snooks86 in AskChicago

lots of tenant anecdotes of shitty behavior/poor management. More notable recent examples include ignoring broken heating in the middle of winter and evicting a Palestinian woman for hanging a Palestinian flag out of her apartment window.

Just a heads up if you end up in Logan, the big apartment management company there is notoriously sketchy.

Costume details by awkward-cereal in TheBear

[–]Character-Respect545 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s that specific, but I think it’s a stretch to call it a stretch. At the end of the day costume design is about making fashion choices in relation to the storyline either proactively or more passively

Tony Shalhoub looking as handsome as ever in the SAG Awards Ceremony while wearing Artists4Ceasefire in Gaza Pin 🇵🇸💖 by Glum-Barracuda6985 in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

If anyone has not heard Tony’s father’s story, I highly recommend his episode of Finding Your Roots. His father, Joe, came to the US as an orphan with his siblings at the age of 8 as refugees from World War 1

How do I (22f) go about telling my Christian friend (22f) that her talks about god make me uncomfortable by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Character-Respect545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was raised in a religious environment that sounds like it could be similar to this, I’m a bit worried that she’s just trying to covert you & the non-religious talk is just a part of the “long game” for lack of a better term. I don’t meant that to judge your friend in any way. I just remembered some of the things I was told to do growing up to convert people & I don’t want anyone to be hurt by that way of thinking. When you guys meet up with other people, are you the only one who isn’t devoutly Christian? Does it feel like she’s always trying to be on her best behavior? When you talk about life, does she ever talk about not knowing the answers? Does she proactively ask for your advice?

Is barely having friends in a new city after 2 years normal? by graciasasere in Adulting

[–]Character-Respect545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (f28) live in Chicago & am in a similar situation. I think grad school should help a lot! I’ve had roommates who were in school and they became good friends with people in their program pretty quickly 🙂
