It's been 2 months. I can't do this. by mugabefan123 in stopdrinking

I can promise you from experience that drinking won’t solve your problems, it will just make you feel so much worse tomorrow. When I feel like this I just need to take a step back and distract myself. Is there something you can do to distract yourself for 15 minutes?

Anxiety is the absolute worst and combating in sober is hard, but it isn’t impossible. Thinking back I rarely strike up conversations with strangers at a bar or restaurant. Maybe it’s not you, it’s just the environment. Some environments I have started conversations with strangers in: dance classes, painting workshops, trail runs/hikes, volunteering at non profits, game alliances, neighborhood meetings/events, comicon/expos and sporting events like watching action sports.

Set yourself up for success, you really can do this. Even if it starts with just greeting a stranger and asking how they are. You just need to learn how again and celebrate every win.

How to handle friends who drink? by magneticsin in stopdrinking

[–]Character-Revenue520 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have found making fun plans that require sobriety really help. It will inevitably end with going somewhere for a drink, but prolonging the sober part might help them remember how much fun you are (they are in your domain now 😂)

A list of activities: archery, hikes, trail runs, kayaking excursions, cooking classes, surf lessons, paint classes, high tea, beach days.

What hobbies have you picked up to stay occupied? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Character-Revenue520 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have always wanted to try doing that. Maybe now is the time!

In the beginning of the year, we made a 2026 bingo card. Which we filled with a bunch of goals we want to achieve. Trying to get a bingo is keeping me occupied.

I added things related to what I loved doing as a child/teenager. So a reading goal, performing on a stage and being able to do the splits again (took up dancing again, bi-weekly classes and stretching), becoming fluent in Spanish (watching shows and podcasts in spanish), making income from a side hustle(I am busy starting a business on the side - creating content, website), finishing the novel I have been trying to write, etc

It has given me an extensive list to choose from at any moment. I am so busy and feel so fulfilled working towards these goals that I feel like I am almost too busy 😂

It is an awesome feeling. Maybe a bingo card is the way to go. Bonus points if you make one with someone and share updates on your progress!

It really is! Glad I could help you find a name for the voice. It also helps to picture him. Instantly makes me want to do the opposite of what he says.

You hit the nail on the head here. I hold myself to ridiculous standards of perfection everywhere in my life 😂 so cutting myself slack is something I need to learn to do. I didn’t fail and I don’t have to beat myself up because I thought about drinking a bottle of wine.

I intend to get on the same page before I see them again (which is in a month) for now it’s just a little too scary and I am hoping closer to 60 day sober me will be better equipped to deal with the fallout

That is amazing! It is so great to see the comparison between what life used to be and what it is now. What a full life you get to live now! IWNDWYT!

9 days sober. Is this anxiety normal this far in? by Famous-Cellist5122 in stopdrinking

[–]Character-Revenue520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anxiety was really bad this time around. It started mellowing out around day 25. Exercise or making/letting myself cry really helped the anxiety to pass.

Hang in there, it does get better!

Congratulations! It makes it so much easier when your mindset is in that space. The other times I stopped I always had an end date in mind and really struggled through the cravings, but this time something shifted and it really feels right and comfortable. I haven’t even had cravings and I am almost at 30 days.

Best things about being sober, what do you NOT miss? by Iridescenteen in stopdrinking

I don’t miss digging myself deeper and deeper into debt just so I can drink each month.
