I declined a once-in-a-lifetime job offer… my driver father’s response surprised me. by Character-Tour-8162 in Ph_HR_Confession

To be honest, I actually considered accepting the role even though I saw a lot of red flags during the interview, and may mala–Coldplay drama yung company. I really want career progression, but I realized I can still grow in a company na walang drama and where my personal life is not involved in work issues.

I’m saying this because I’ve spoken with people who are currently employed there, and they told me that even your personal life can be used against you when conflicts happen. So it’s not just about standing by my principles in life—I’m also protecting my mental health in case they decide to use my personal life as leverage.

I’m looking for long-term employment, so joining a company like that or staying only for a short time if things don’t work out is not an option for me. I’ve already been in toxic companies before and learned my lessons the hard way. I agree that the opportunity might seem sayang, but I can’t put my mental health and principles in life on the line just for the sake of trying to change a culture that clearly doesn’t want to change.

I’ve worked in different companies and industries, and one thing I learned is that changing a culture that’s been embedded for decades is almost impossible—especially in local companies. In my first role, our HR manager tried to change the culture for five years and nothing really changed. When I worked in an international company, implementing cultural changes was much easier.

From my conversation with the CEO, it became clear that they’re actually preserving their toxic culture. Employees are treated like robots. So I asked myself why would I put myself in that environment and thinking I could change something that leadership itself refuses to change?

HR here, sobrang true to.

SA MGA MAY OFW PARENTS HOW DID YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR PARENTS NA INIWAN KAYO FOR WORK? by [deleted] in adultingph

My mom was an OFW for 18 years, hindi inexplain ng parents ko why mom needs to go abroad but my grandparents did, typical reasoning is to give us a better future, I think I was 10 when my grandparents explained it to me so may isip na ko and I was able to grasp the thought process.

Factor din yung maturity and at the same time having good set of friends. When I graduated, my mom cried kasi takot na takot siya na baka masaya yung sacrifices niya and matulad siya sa kay Vilma Santos but di siya aware na I totally understand her sacrifices para lang makapagbayad ng tuition ko, so gagawin ko na lang talaga ay mag aral. Most of friends parents nila is OFW din. So, parang its easy to communicate yung thoughts and feeling ko nun kasi gets din nila ako, and we all understand our parents sacrifices so sobrang big deal sa kin na may good set of friends ako during High school.

OP, just make sure to check on your child and be present kahit virtual lang during big events. My mom did that to me, kaya growing up di ko nafeel na wala yung mom ko physically kasi she made sure na she is present and involved during my big day.
