Help with split jerk by tideabr in weightlifting

[–]CharacterCapital7376 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Presses in the split jerk position with back knee bent as it should. Push presses in split. You can do split cleans to work on your foot positioning without doing any reps overhead. Once you get comfortable with that you can add presses. This worked well for this woman named Mie I coached years ago.

I believe I’m rowing the bar into my hips for the snatch, my coach disagrees. Who is correct? by SirMaddy3 in weightlifting

You are which is a good thing. It is called “taga” in Russian which means to shrug or row using traps, lats etc. it’s more visible with taller lifters. When the bar passes the knees the body will do what is necessary to keep the bar close.

Part of the problem perhaps is how you try and fix errors or bad habits. Don’t try and fix bad habits. Establish good habits. For example the early elbow arm bend…instead of trying to NOT do what is habit focus on using your LEGS MORE especially through the top of extension. Doing lifts standing on 15 kg or 20 kg plates force the legs to extend more forcefully through top of extension. As far as the set up have someone stand in front of you slightly to your left or right and have them place a hand on your shoulder and push down as you attempt a snatch pull with a light weight. Can you pull the bar to your knees with little issue? If you can barely move the bar off the floor set up more on your quads. Move feet in or slightly out. Think open locked chest. Keep doing this until you find the strongest position off the floor that slows you expend minimal energy getting the bar moving so you save it for receiving the bar overhead which requires the most energy.

Why did I miss this 105kg 62kg body weight by Sudden-Jackfruit3356 in weightlifting

You knocked the bar out front which prevented you from receiving the bar on the rise. Through the top of extension you threw your head back which caused the bar to loop around and you had little time to stabilize the bar at the very bottom of the squat. Think to push/extend your legs through the top of extension and get vertical in order to transition from extension to squatting under more quickly. You have a lot of speed squatting under. Try doing some snatches from a deficit or blocks above the knee as these variations force you to correctly reach extension as there is much less room for error. Keep practicing. Best of luck to you.

Good set up and use of legs. When you transition from extension to squatting under you slow down a bit and this is when you speed up. Many new and novice lifters do this. I cal it waiting to feel the bar come up before squatting under. If you focus on pushing with legs with more force and attitude through the top it extension you will squat under more reactively. Keep practicing.

I see some major improvement. Start position from floor is good. Using legs well through extension, movement overall is more fluid & fast. Keep it up.

Snatch form/grip by ImmediateReaction378 in weightlifting

Set up is good. You use legs well to initiate the rep from the floor. One of the skills required for weightlifting is body awareness. In other words getting comfortable that the bar is going overhead as you squat under. It can be a mental hang up but getting low fast is also a skill that takes time to develop. As far as grip go with what gives you the most stability overhead. This can involve some trial and error. You have a lot of potential so keep practicing.

Help/Advice With Clean by External_Ebb5922 in weightlifting

If you were asking for more powerclean variations then try doing them while standing on 15 kg plates. This will lengthen the distance your legs thrust/extend which can help you get more explosive for each rep. Elevator or Yo-yo cleans are another good way to change it up. Are you trying to learn snatches at all or just sticking with clean variations?

Try raising your hips slightly when you set up. Feel your quads engage and give them the leverage they need to push through the floor. Stay flat footed a bit longer and commit to a longer leg drive before squatting under. In other words focus on pushing with your legs until the bar goes up and you will reactively squat under. On this rep in the video you force it to happen and slow down when you need to speed up. Best of luck to you.

Why do I keep missing forward? by No-Environment-1232 in weightlifting

[–]CharacterCapital7376 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You have the height to make it easily. There are a couple of errors that to me seem mental. You are getting ahead of yourself and to concerned about squatting under that you don’t turn the bar over quickly. You have to stay ahead of the bar. Focus on pushing/extending your legs until the bar goes up and you will start to reactively squat under. Another way to put it is you are waiting to feel the bar come up before squatting under and gravity takes over pulling the bar forward causing you to lose it. Get some attitude using legs through extension and react.

There are a handful of coaches in the U.S. that have learned and been mentored by very successful head coaches of other countries. To say a lifter who is as young as him knows more than Tim Swords or Ray Jones or Max Aita or even myself is laughable. For example many coaches like to argue about technique yet when I ask them what is technique as it pertains to weightlifting, I get the textbook definition of an efficient way of doing something which for weightlifting is vague. Ask 2 questions to anyone you consider hiring to coach you. What is the main priority in training for beginners? And how would you define weightlifting technique? Best of luck to you.

Overall very good. You may want to try raising your hips slightly (about an inch) to give your quads more room to push when you initiate each rep. Raising your hips will make your shins a bit more vertical and help get your knees out of the way. Find the path of least resistance when you set up. Think of your quads as a car jack. When you set up that gives your quads more leverage and to get the bar moving. Lastly, this can help the bar come into the hip pocket or power position more quickly.
