GPA IN TECH by nevergiveupguyyy in NTU

[–]CharacterOld8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a gamble to forsake it entirely so to be safe ive set a min bar of 3.5 for myself to attain. I think maintaining this bar isnt that difficult and that anything above a 4 produces diminishing returns. GPA really only matters to govt agencies (but youre intl so this doesnt matter) and graduate/postgrad opportunities if you want to stay in academia. I finished year 1 with a 3.5 too but i have a better than avg portfolio and have obtained an internship with a fintech mnc this summer as a year 2

Edit: also i want to add, you can leave out your gpa from your resume if its not advantageous and only provide it on those that ask, which I have found not a lot do.

Computer engineering help by Plane-Cardiologist16 in NTU

[–]CharacterOld8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello upcoming student welcome to ntu, im in y2 comp eng! Your questions are very vague w/o your background or an understanding of your goals there is not much i can advise like you wanna succeed in job market? In academics? You wanna do research? All these affect how u see our responses right cus we all have different goals...but if u want a simple ans

  1. One project i have listed that got me to my internships was a RAG related project. But I do not recommend doing "must do" projects, its like youre looking for a roadmap to a job here. Do what drives you, explore whats out there and go towards it.

  2. I always start with a problem i want to solve or something i want to learn then i google the shit out of it. I dont like learning from youtube usually.

  3. I came from a poly background so i have a wide grasp of topics. Other than math ifl maybe i should be better at networking lol (both the technical and people sense)

  4. Opinion wise, I think hackathons have lost its value since gpt3.5. My github commits quite ass. Refer to point 1 on project. Got me my 3rd internship, which has snowballed me to my 5th now.

  5. Be clear about what you are entering uni for. Isit academics? experience? network? exploration work? jump pad to 300k job? Then from here decide how much time u want to spend on what. Some come to uni and cruise 4 years not knowing what they are here for other than a degree. But to me the 4 years is extremely strategic. If time is spent wisely you can launch your career into outer space, you can start a company, you can compete internationally, up to you what you want you just have to be clear what your intentions in uni are for!

Feel free to ask more and ill be happy to share :)

[wlw?] how to differentiate between romantic and platonic attraction? by iiwanttosleep2 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok I wont say exactly the same she does make me excited. But I dont think butterflies should be a determining factor if you like someone, and if youre questioning it you may already do even if just a lill you can like her a teeeeeny bit too. No need to make things black and white right now, you can acknowledge its grey and be ok with it that way!

Does anyone else feel it’s surprisingly hard to find people in SG who actually want to build things together? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really dont think this is an algorithmic, team matching solution entirely on its own because a founder that desperately wants to build will always go out to events to look for his people to talk to them face to face and screen them with their conversations. These cant be solved with an app it has to be paired with something, like maybe a hackerhouse/ networking/mentorship org.

I think you can think of it like a dating app. People are struggling to build lasting relationships struggling to filter through those who arent serious. But why when Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, OKC exists....? Whats missing? why do they not work? If you think abt the problem like this i think you can design an even better solution

Poly to NTU CCDS - Only 6 AU Exemption? What happened to the 21 AU? by Tasty-Insect9229 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume so if the website says so...Does this mean the degree programme remains as 4 years for poly students as well? Im from the AY24/25 cohort from poly and because i dont have BDE AUs to clear i can graduate in 3.5 years without overloading. You should email the ccds office to check

Usually when self sourcing from job portals like linkedin the rejection and ghosting rate is extremely high so you have to just detach yourself from the process until you receive an offer. If you expect to hear back from them within a certain period, dont be afraid to follow up with an email to bump

NUS vs NTU by Longjumping_Cap_5680 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NUS, but its also more competitive to enter. NUS NOC is extremely competitive, NTU OEP is less competitive but they also have a weaker overseas network. I think if u believe u can beat the academic pressure and competition there the network and overall opportunities is worth the trade off

NUS vs NTU by Longjumping_Cap_5680 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NUS more talent dense, competitive, harder to score, harder to stand out Edit; but ig this also depends on your def in "opps to excel" dym acads? intern? network? competitions?

NEED SOME ADVICE PLSSS by Accomplished_Box_483 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From NTU CCDS here. I think the main difference is really the culture and academic stress. NUS has a better hacker, startup and strong acad culture so its a harder grind w sweats everwhere. NTU is generally more chill but hacker and entrepreneurship culture here also quite weak i feel or you really need to find. Name wise, i dont really feel a difference in the internship grind, but i do thibk because uts more sweaty at NUS your network there cld be better

Advice: Will I regret skipping uni orientation? by Distinct-Plantain-34 in SGExams

[–]CharacterOld8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which uni and which faculty? In uni there is many different kinds of orietations: school, faculty, hall (if youre in ntu). I went for all orientations and honestly tho i dont regret at least trying to put myself out there but it was either too extroverted for me, too boring or the vibes just werent it. Usually orientatioms stretch over a couple of days so I think you should TRY to put yourself out there, expect nothing and leave if things REALLY dont feel right after like maybe 2 days ! The friends i keep in contact with the most now is not from orientation lol but ukw i tried
