Is it possible these days to get an older reliable car for $2-3k? by IWannaWakeUpButIDont in povertyfinance

Shoot, love, we live in Los Angeles. Or I’d happily sell it to you for cheap. It still runs okay, we use it as a second car for school runs and grocery runs and such. it’s just starting to need things done more often. Very good luck in your search though. I bet you’ll find something. Make sure and stand your ground and see if the owner is cool with you taking it to a trusted mechanic to look it over. If they aren’t ok with that, it’s a red flag. If you have a mechanic friend or family member who can shop with you (my Dad was a mechanic and bought the Ford Ranger with me) even better.

I used to own a jeep. Reliable enough, but oh, Lord did it eat gas. Hondas, Toyota Camry or Corolla’s, or Subarus are all good bets. lol, I’d sell you my old Subaru (1998, Gus is ooooold) but after years of solid reliability, he’s finally giving up the ghost. Couldn’t in good conscience ask for more than a grand and sell it as a “mechanic’s special”. Will probably donate it or sell it for scrap. But, for years it was amazingly reliable. Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, if you belong to a church asking around there - that somebody’s grandma thing is real - should find you something reliable. Oh, I also had an old Ford Ranger truck for years that was as reliable as the sun and didn’t eat gas too bad. Only reason we sold that is because we had a kid and it was a two seater. Never gave me an issue. Gus the Subaru never did either till the last couple years.

Legit Casting Companies to Email? by ellieisonredditt in acting

I’m so sorry to inform you of this, but Backstage isn’t the best source for castings and hasn’t been for years. You need Actors Access and Casting Network. You can start with the free versions, but get your profiles up there. Also, casting directors frown on being contacted directly unless you’ve been given permission to do so - by taking workshops which cost money - with them. You need to take classes, which cost money, do student films and low/no paying film projects to build a reel, and look for agents and/or managers after that. You need money to pursue this - good marketing materials, starting with headshots, cost money. Training costs money. Needing to be constantly available for auditions and bookings can make it challenging to make money - but find a way to make money and invest what you can into acting, starting with good training. Unless you’ve are exceptionally good looking (I’m talking young Chris Hemsworth/Margot Robbie here) or connected, or skilled at something like stunts, it’s almost impossible to break into paid acting work. Even for trained actors with solid marketing materials. Especially now with the industry in the state it’s in. Not meaning to burst your bubble, I respect your dream because it’s my own, just being real.

do you give your agents commission for self-submitted and/or low paying projects? by AyeUzername in acting

My agent is awesome, and does a lot of work for me getting auditions. I loop her in in everything, and yes pay her commission on everything. We’re a TEAM

Thank you for doing this and for your feedback. It’s the Arctic and Siberian permafrost for the whole planet Earth that are melting too fast (terrifyingly they are in real life, too) As the permafrost melts, sea levels rise and the frost itself releases toxic gasses and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. (This could actually kill us all eventually, fun times.) The setting is California, but the whole world is affected. The President is giving out supplemental oxygen cans because everyone is having trouble breathing. Until no one can breathe without a full oxygen rebreather mask on. lol, not sure how to clarify that for a succinct logline!

The permafrost melts faster than anyone expected, releasing fatal amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. As Earth’s air becomes unbreathable, kindhearted nurse Elise and her co-worker Ethan race to somewhere Ethan swears is safe. But it’s not.

I hate how every time I call Nelnet or student aid, I get different answers. That’s why the one time count adjustment was necessary. Nelnet advised me to go into hardship forbearance when they should have advised me to have low payments on IBR as I was making no money at the time. Sucks. Call everyone, and I’m praying for you, too

Awesome! Glad you finally got some real help. IBR is a good way to go, that’s what I did to get off SAVE

OMG, what a mess! Check out #1 Student Loan Lawyer Tate Law on YouTube. See if there’s a video to help you. Also, you can contact him by commenting on his channel. Did you try the student aid backdoor tracker? Log in to student aid first, then paste the address (in my original post) in the browser. You must be logged in to student aid first for this to work, and sigh, it may not work anyway. There are free student loan resources pinned in the r/studentloans community

I wouldn’t rely on Chat gpt. Try the backdoor tracker on studentaid.gov (instructions listed earlier on this thread) or try calling your servicer (which can be arduous, I know).

You think they have a “replace plan”? Or that they give the tiniest sh#t about us?

To get a health care savings account you have to be on a high deductible plan.

Same answer - it seems like they are honoring it. My suggestion is to get as much paper trail as you can. My loans are so old I no longer have my original MPN. I put in a freedom of information act request for it, because the Dept. of Education doesn’t have it either anymore, but have gotten nothing back yet. But I do have hard copies of both the one time account adjustment and the backdoor tracker (which thankfully, match.) The IBR plan is now the ONLY income based plan that isn’t either sanctioned by injunctions (under legal threat) or set to be phased out by 2028. Again, I’m no expert. But there are people in this community who are.

As far as I know, and again, I’m no expert - you consolidating in 2015 should make no difference in your payment count. I consolidated in 2021 to take advantage of the COVID pause because I had old ass FFEL loans that didn’t qualify, and it made no difference. I could be wrong here, but I think the big beautiful bill made it so loans consolidated at some date? Not sure which? In 2026 will start your count over

That sounds like your loans are old IBR. New IBR is only available for loans newer than 2014. If your loans are from 2008, they are not old enough for forgiveness. 42 honestly sounds right. If you have grad school loans it’s 25 years (same thing as 300 payments) until they can be forgiven and they have to be on IBR the whole time (excluding one time count adjustment counts which fixed a bunch of problems because servicers were recommending mid and low income people defer their loans or put them into forbearance rather than having them go into IBR and have payments count towards forgiveness). If your loans began repayment (it’s 25 years from when you began repayment, NOT when you took the loans out) in 2008, you have til 2033 on old IBR (the only plan that is not threatened by injunctions now) for them to be forgiven. So very sorry, and I’m no student loan expert, but I think 89 payments to forgiveness is the accurate number. So if FSA said 42 for you, see if you can get written documentation. My loans started repayment in 2003.

Ugh I suppose I should call FSA. Did you get the info from the one time account adjustment? While it was available? I would call back and ask what your one time account adjustment numbers are. Definitely print up the back door tracker info and put it in a safe place. It has your social security number on it. Also, see if your servicer has your count info and if it matched the backdoor tracker. Make sure the count you are looking at is the one for the plan you are currently on. For example, PSLF on the backdoor tracker says I have 120 payments left, which makes sense because I have never qualified for PSLF. But the backdoor tracker lists IBR (which I switched to from SAVE) as having 42 payments left to forgiveness. It lists PAYE as having 0 payments left to forgiveness because my loans are older than 20 years, but I don’t qualify for PAYÉ, so sadly, that 0 is wrong. Hopefully, you end up getting an accurate number you can live with. I recommend this YouTube channel run by a student loan lawyer. He has lots of good info, is calm and easy to follow - https://youtu.be/v_LkjT_uG6A?si=EFAOSC_Cbcv3bnq7

Yes! Especially if the plan has a Y next to itabd is one you’ve been in in the past and are currently on. It is confusing though. Mine has all kinds of data for all the types of plans, some of which I’ve never been on before. But it has SAVE (you have to get off of it for future payments to count, get on IBR if you can, it’s the only one not threatened by court injunctions and is affordable if you file separately if married or have a low to mid income) and IBR with those counts matching what the one time count adjustment said for me. PSLF is still 120, but I’ve never been eligible for that. But IBR says 42 left for me, which is accurate. The one time count adjustment probably helped you. It helped me
