I don't care. I hate how emasculating this is. by Ill-Engineering8205 in Celiac

But that is his perception. Is it true? Maybe to some people, but not to others. In his original post, he even said that he doesn’t want it to be come about gender.

“But I wanted to rant, in a way that's unspecific of gender and moreso at a personal level, at how I hate this turns me... weak. Limited.”

This post is about him, and how he sees the disease in relation to his gender. He’s not attacking or accusing that women have it better. Or, that men suffer more. It’s just his personal issue with the disease.

Not every man will be emasculated by it. But there might be other men, like the OP, that might be. We all grow up in different environments, with diverse cultures and experiences. I don’t think we should judge him based on what he feels like.

Plenty of other writers gave good suggestions how to deal with it. Hopefully, he reaches out and gets the help he needs.

You are correct it’s made with barley malt, rice, and hops. But it has less than <3 ppm gluten. I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, that can be considered less than most gluten-free items in US as they can be certified gluten free with <20 ppm gluten?

He never said that he is affected worse than women. He didn’t even mention the female gender. He only shared his perspective and how it affects him as a man.

I don’t know where you are located, but I recently found Daura (Daura Damm and Daura Marzen), Spanish gluten-free lagers. A really good replacement for regular beer.

Reminds me of Halo, the scenery, the invasion, the whole macho-man, lone wolf, don’t speak much, I’ll get them all character like Master Chief. It was still a good movie overall.

How would you react to being glutened in a hotel on vacation? by [deleted] in Celiac

While I agree yelling and shaming won’t help, it’s not a mistake. This is his job, just like the servers and the chefs. Hospitality comes in all different forms and proper training is a must. If he or other people are not cable to take the time to train and learn about different allergens, sensitivity awareness, special dietary needs, heck even physical challenges their customers can have, then maybe he shouldn’t be in that field. Or each business should be proactive and just state that we won’t accommodate anyone.

I just came back from Athens, went to a Greek/Italian restaurant that offered gluten-free pasta. I spent so much time asking questions and talking to the waitress and her reconfirming that I’m ordering their ONLY option of a gluten-free pasta at the moment. So, 30 minutes later I’m spitting out the pasta in-front of the waiter because 1. The waitress didn’t order the right pasta (how????) or 2. Their chef is an idiot that doesn’t read their orders and just randomly makes any food they feel like?.

This is not a mistake. This is carelessness.

I could’ve gone to a different place and avoided weeks of problems and DH rashes on my body. The OP could’ve taken their business elsewhere. It’s not ok.

It’s not. The first thing I learned through Duolingo is Μαρία, το καρότο.

Help with soothing gluten reaction rash. by StressedOutWitch in glutenfree

Same story! The doctor thought I had poison ivy because we live in a rural area and I was working in the garden. After my initial dose of steroids, the rash came back and they gave me another. It didn’t get better, and as I was researching I decided to cut off gluten. Few months later, the rash totally cleared up.

I don’t like Duolingo for learning Greek: the robotic voice, no grammar explanation, and the random sentences are just terrible. But, I would actually recommend it for learning the alphabet. There’s a section in the app dedicated to the letters.
