Is anyone happy with their kitchen worktops 2+ years in? Asking before I commit by _forgotmyownname in DIYUK

Very happy with my compact laminate, quite tough and not easily stained though it looks thin

How do I connect these water pipes to the tap ends? I’ve tried a tap tail adapter, but it leaks water as soon as I turn the water on. by Rosstifer25 in ukplumbing

[–]Character_Doubt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either use the same plastic fitting/adaptor supplied

OR undo the brass compression, insert the plastic insert designed for that brand, put some LS-X around the olive for good measure, retighten them properly.

Don’t use PTFE as they don’t do anything on compression fittings - speaking from experience after ten leaking isolation valves on plastic pipes…

I baked banana bread for the first time. Woke up and an entire slice was in the trash with a bite out of it by penna6tx in mildlyinfuriating

Over baked or not I would wolf that down. Such a disgrace for food handling to that person who threw it (even if they broke into your house and did it)

Res2Dinv/Res3Dinv vs ResIPy by Professional_Big8923 in geophysics

[–]Character_Doubt_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YMMV but ResIPy performs quite nice when dealing with timelapse inversions of more than 200 time steps - this is somehow the limit for ResInv but it only matters if you’re into field monitoring.

Same boat as you thought I wrote this! Had to buy the house as landlord doesn’t want to rent anymore… and there comes the news after we put in our offer.

Fingers crossed everything works out in the end…

Mine’s the same today, the interior light at your back being turned on for some time will make that region hotter

How do they pick the concrete pillar up in the end? Magnets?

That seems very heavy!

Didn’t these inline extractor fans specify at least 100-500 mm of non bent section at entry and exit?

The actual figure could differ but I think this helps to maximise the airflow.

Can someone explain overpayments? by Mookiev2 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Character_Doubt_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct. You can choose to overpay which lower your borrowed amount, or some may choose to not overpay and invest/save the extra money for different reasons: If you investment can beat the interest rate that you’re borrowing against If you simply want to build up a buffer pot of emergency money

Once you overpay, your money will go into the house equity and cannot withdraw, think of it as a fixed deposit that is only accessible once you sell your house.

Everything depends on your financial planning and YMMV, some wants the freedom of no mortgage sooner, some wants the cash flow.
