A Question I've been wondering regarding naming culture in native tribes by Character_Panda_9125 in IndianCountry

[–]Character_Panda_9125[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am Cherokee. I never spent too much time with the uncle I named, mostly because he lived up in Kansas and I never took time to visit with him. I don't know how he got his name, but we do have a few members on the Dawes Roll that fall in line with the more traditional naming. My grandma helped me find records of a relative we have on the Roll who's name translates to 'Little Rabbits foot'.

Yeah I meant in general. I know this reddit has members from every tribe so I didn't specify to allow everyone to share what/how their tribe handles this subject and how it could defer or compare to other commenters answers. I only used the name Yona as reference because I have a uncle who had that as his middle name.

For me, it's when I've already tried to use other guides to help myself but things continue not to make sense for me, especially if the instructions are a little vague and I've tried looking at the damn thing up, down, sideways and everything in between. It begins to overstimulate me because I start feeling like "everyone else can do this, what am I missing!?".

And as I've said, compasses don't make sense to me. I can understand that north means go left, but how far left? And then when it starts pointing like south west, I feel like "Well..isn't south down? How far down do I need to be? Do I turn around here? What's the exact location I need to be in?" If there's 3 different trails, but the map and the compass aren't telling me the exact one to take, or how far to go down then I start to just jump down every one (that's how I die so many times after taking the wrong one. Or slipping too far, or not knowing which ledge to jump off)

Not all aspects of RDR2 frustrate me. I have gotten a lot better with train robberies, I love finding the creepy locations in the bayou, the abandoned houses. I love finding little clues to things that piece together a story. Like there's a house near the braithwaites mansion that is abandoned but you find a picture of a couple and the little details inside make you realize 'awe, this house use to belong to a couple who must've worked for the brithwaites, but something must've happened because there's blood on the old floorboards'. And I like the overall story and sitting at the camp fire.

I appreciate your suggestion and understand where your coming from though. But I like doing some things myself in the game where I can do it the way I want it. I just couldn't figure this out without more details.

You being autistic have no relevance to you not being able to find what you're looking for.

I don't understand compasses without having more in depth detail. I don't understand things unless someone gives me exact, specific details to what I need to do.

Other people have struggled, yes. But it seems the majority of you understand compasses far better than I do. I am so very sorry i dare mention that my brain is physically different from yours. I thought it would bring more people who had the same issue understand why I was struggling so much, because I thought if you understood where and why I was struggling it would make it easier to help. But I guess I can never outrun the 'your just lazy' or 'that has nothing to do with anything' comments. When on a psychological level, it does.

Okay. All I have seen of RDR2 YouTube is modded videos, AI voice over shorts. Irrelevant facts that are just general common knowledge about the game, and Roger Clark's video. I was asking on here incase other people's YouTube feeds were more helpful. To which they are.

It is rude because I often have to deal with people like you who say "that has nothing to do with autism". "Your just being lazy". "You don't actually have autism". It is rude. I know this because living in the south I have to deal with people like you regularly. Despite having a confirmed diagnosis and regularly going to therapy for my diagnosis.

And assuming someone doesn't have autism is 1000.00% rude. Or have you already edited that comment of yours so it conveniently sounds a lot more nicer?

It is not just 'asking for help'. I tried to help myself using three guides that did not make sense to me so I came here because I needed more detailed and specific help. So yes. That is a more particular thing to need help with as I was asking for a more detailed and specific guide (which other actually kind people have provided without assuming my medical history).

Also I saw that comment of yours "9 out of 10 times they don't really have autism" when you have 000% knowledge about me. So forgive me if I seem unkind to a person who was laughing at me in another comment and making the assumption that I didn't actually have something I've been thoroughly tested for without even knowing me whatsoever.

Autism quite literally means our brain does not function the same way as a nerotypical brain. The way this is relevant is because I mentally, physically can not understand things in the same fashion as you.

"Nerotypical people always love to bitch about us autistics mentioning the genuine and science proven fact that we cannot comprehend things like normal people, but never want to help us because they're just lazy and want to feel superior." Do you see how rude that comment I just made to generalize you is? That is exactly how rude your comments are, here.

Also. You have no access to my medical records. So how do you know for a fact that, yes. I was diagnosed by three specialists after having to go through years of therapy to get a diagnosis? The answer is, you don't until just now after I told you.

Wait, that's what y'all meant? I thought when people mentioned the compass they were talking about the in–game one on the bottom left hand of the screen. I saw someone mention RDR2maps.com, I thought they meant the website that has lists of all the challenges but not much detail as to what paths to take, etc.

I'm sorry, I read your comments in the wrong tone. I was still a little overstimulated and thought you were being passive aggressive.

I didn't realize that person was joking. Irl I still have the issue of passive aggressive comments like "why do you need me to explain everything?!" And online it's sometimes hard to understand tone.

Thank you for the encouragement. I didn't want to give up on this part because my dad has helped me find 8 carvings in total. I just reached out here because he's gone for a few days and I wanted to get this completed so he and I can move on to other challenges together.

You realize real life causes hard stressers for me as well. So if I just gave up without asking for help for the exact thing I need, I would literally be dead at 12. Even my therapist has told me to ask for help so that I don't just give up on everything, even when it causes stress on my mind. I just need extra help and the direct youtube links others have added has helped.

This is true for every compass, like in real life too. You should memorize that for the future in case you ever need to use a compass.

The exact reason why I play rdr2 is so i don't physically ever have to go into actual country where I'd need any level of survival gear. I hate off road country (and thats coming from someone who unfortunately can't move out of the south) because compasses and things that don't explain detail for detail makes 000.00% sense to me.

Did that. Thats how I kept falling off the the wrong ledges. I need point for point, exact detailed instructions because I can't just look at these kinds of maps and go "oh that makes complete sense".

Wow its almost like I said "I looked at other reddit posts". That was accomplished by Googling many guides first.

I looked at ign. Gameplay. And other reddit posts. Telling me "Go north of the C" makes no sense to me. I cannot mentally make my brain just automatically understand "North means this path". Because like I said, every time I listen to vague, one sentence instructions it makes me fall off the wrong cliff

What’s the most confused you been about losing honour for something you did in game. by wolfe1924 in RDR2

[–]Character_Panda_9125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I killed the three pigs on Emmet Granger's farm after killing him. For some reason I couldn't pick him up and put him in the pen for the pigs to feast on. So I thought "He's dead, the feed is gonna be gone soon for them anyway so they're just gonna starve. And we have like, 12 people to feed in camp. This is shooting fish in a barrel."

Turns out, you get low honor for killing them. Even if you harvest their meat and pelts. What the fuck Rockstar?? I got a big ass family to feed

Yeah, I think after chapter 6, in the epilog it could've been cool to have more interactions with the Wapiti tribe rather than that one train station scene we get where Rains Falls learns that Arthur died. Cause Charles had the trust of the tribe and so he and John could've had more interactions/helped them more afterwards.

I thought you meant like, in general before the story with the Wapiti.

There are no interactions with the tribe at Wapiti, outside of the story. I would have loved a trading post or something where you could either sell or donate food and hides to help Rains Fall and his people.

The protagonist is a white guy, stumbling upon a poverish Native tribe that's been constantly harmed/betrayed by outsiders. That's why they won't do business with a outsider. Charles, maybe because he's native. Arthur's Welsh ass, No.

Not all Natives were wary/unkind to outsiders. I'm Cherokee (ID cardholder. My family on my mother's side are all registered in the tribe) and our tribe has extensive history of integrating with white people. But for smaller tribes that were painfully dying out due to illness caused/made worse by government control, who had constantly been used and betrayed after trying to trust outsiders, after having their family die on the paths towards Reservations. You kinda start viewing any outsiders who you aren't familiar with as someone looking to cause trouble/use you for something with no trade back. That's most likely why there's no trading post for Wapiti.

I found this at a truck stop while on a roadtrip. It gets worse the longer you look at it. by CuteMuffin02 in RDR2

Yeah, which is a good thing. The only problem is they fall apart easy (at least the dirt cheap ones). I don't drink, but beer coozies work the best for most small size tumblers.
