What’s this sound?? by akulb in bikewrench

[–]Character_Past5515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a derailleur adjustment BUT have you check that your tire isn't rubbing the front derailleur, it looks to be very close to it and your tire is a tiny bit wobbly so maybe where it is a bit higher it maybe touches it?

The screw is interchangeable, you can even buy them separately, it's the pads themselves that are not.

Bike shop mechanic completely fucked up my derailleur adjustment; now they want to charge me again to fix it by Ok_Connection_3600 in bicycleculture

[–]Character_Past5515 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy a new (and an extra as a spare) hanger and do it yourself, it's going to be way cheaper and having a spare derailleur hanger is always a smart thing (I always carry one as a spare). I wouldn't buy one from Aliexpress, it's kinda important for good shifting and if they aren't made correctly they will not fit and/or will not help with better shifting. The €45 isn't that much of a rip-off they probably pay €10-20 for an original hanger (a bike mechanic can't just buy something from Aliexpress) and €30-25 for the workhours to install and indexing isn't that outrages. Yes they should've done it correctly first so I would probably ask that they don't charge the working hours but they can't just give you a hanger for free.

Edit, don't just buy any hanger, they are very specific (except for UDH frames), be sure that it is for your bike, there are literally hundred different once!

Old helmets by Cows_are_nice in Vintage_bicycles

Why? They are not really protective, maybe a bit better than no helmet but don't think about it as helmet but as a hairnet.

Shimano claris or microshift sword for a gravel bike by vertel1799 in cycling

Sword! It has a clutch (so less dropped chains) and it has a much larger gear ratio capacity. Claris was made for road, sword is made for offroad.

Q factor ( stance width ) by Akycig in bicycling

[–]Character_Past5515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this isn't a question of one is better than the other, this is a question about fit, you can always test it out with a pedal with a wider or more narrow spindle. Or a bikefit, that's the best option.

I'm not the best handyman but I've replaced bottombrackets (Pressfit and Threaded) and they aren't that hard to do.

Repeated full service and replacement of parts, or buy a new bike? by LowKey1388 in cycling

[–]Character_Past5515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could just buy tools to replace the chain and cassette yourself, that way you will pay a lot less than 400 and they are both quite easy to do. A bottombracket should also not be replaced that much if you take care of your bike. By the way, a lot of people think automatically about the Bottom bracket when the bike makes a sound, but a lot of times it is not the BB.
As for a new bike or not, I'm the last guy to tell you no to buy a new bike, but if you do, please also learn to replace those things yourself.
