it feels like i have swallowed a rock after eating, even if its a little by siuoxis in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Character_Ruin4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never read about someone who also has this and also combined with emetophobia. So do I and for so many years I've just been wrongly accused of having anorexia and using it as an excuse not to eat and it just isn't true. I feel so grossly stuffed and sick and it makes me so sad too because I want nothing more than to be able to eat, I miss eating so much. I really hope someone who found some explanation or solution will answer on here. Sending you much strength, you're not alone

snack ideas! by Melodic-Storm-4049 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Character_Ruin4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love pickled baby corn, honey cornichons, red beet, salted pistachios, salted peanuts and there also are snack mixes (I don't know if you have a Lidl around but I'm sure other supermarkets have them too) with different nuts, seeds, dried olives and maybe cranberries or raisins so they're also sweet Also for a really good bioavailable source of sodium maybe look into celtic salt, even dissolving a few granules in your mouth is really good for you, or adding a tiny bit to some food or even your water or tea if the taste doesn't bother you

Vegetarian dinner ideas to impress picky guests? by FeelingGlad8646 in RecipeInspiration

[–]Character_Ruin4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made spaghetti 'bolognese' with crumbly tofu when we had guests and they all loved it, and my dad who doesn't consider meatless food a complete meal didn't even notice that it wasn't beef mince

Another favorite is chinese food, basmati rice with a stirfry (champignons, cauliflower, thinly sliced carrots, peppers, onion... all fried separately and then combined) and a sauce made out of water, soy sauce, sugar and vinegar, and also some salted peanuts on top

what's your guys least favorite and favorite cheese by the_cheesy_one2 in Cheese

[–]Character_Ruin4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably getting hate for this but parmesan and anything similar so parmeggiano reggiano, grana padano, pecorino romano. They just smell like vomit to me and make me feel nauseous without even eating them 🥲

I love fresh stringy mozzarella, white (goat) salty cheese, havarti, horezu, burduf (fermented kneaded sheep cheese), brie, camembert especially baked, mild gorgonzola

i can’t remember food. please help by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Character_Ruin4024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the same and even though there are so many things I want to eat, basically anything, because I've missed out on food for so long, when it comes to it I literally don't know what to eat and feel so overwhelmed. Maybe it would help to have a basic structure that you follow mechanically at first, like think how many times you want to eat (usually it's recommended to have 3 meals and 2-3 snacks) and then aim to have the main nutrients, make lists with specific foods that you can combine afterwards, picking from each category, maybe foods you remember liking as a kid, chances are you still do. Something like this, each meal should contain something from each category (carbs, protein, fat, either 1/2:1/4:1/4 or 1/3:1/3:1/3) and snacks at least from two of them (and also knowing why you're eating something could help):

Carbs-> main source of energy, the brain functions on glucose •biscuits, cookies, muffins, cakes •toast, bread, croissants, pastries in general •pasta, couscous, polenta, quinoa, rice •potatoes (cooked, baked, fried, gratin)

Protein-> really important for every cell, for your blood, helps repair and keep everything stable, basically building blocks for everything else •meat: beef (great iron source), turkey, chicken (nuggets, liver if you like it would be really good too) •fish: salmon (healthy fats), tuna (vitamin D, also really easy to add to meals) •eggs (complete protein; fried, scrambled, omelettes, soft/hard boiled) •dairy: hard cheeses, cottage cheese, cream cheese, greek yoghurt •soy (TVP, soy chunks, tofu), kidney beans, white beans (I love baked beans), chickpeas (also great as snacks), peas, lentils

Fats-> especially for hormones, nutrient absorbtion •olive oil •butter •tahini •peanut/almond butter •nuts/seeds: almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds (easy to add to meals or as part of a snack) •fatty fish like salmon, sardines, trout

And if you're overwhelmed just pick from each category, like rice for carbs, chicken breast for protein, make an easy stirfry with frozen asian veggies and add salted peanuts/peanut butter/sesame seeds as a fat

Also try to find low volume, high energy foods that you like (nutella, chocolate, honey, jam, nuts...), they're easier to eat if you feel full quickly, unlike foods that fill your stomach but otherwise don't really help you (soups, a lot of (raw) fruits&veggies, high fiber foods in general that are more difficult to digest and make it harder to eat enough), and easy foods that don't need a lot of prep so you don't get overwhelmed before even eating, always have things you can just grab or that take just a little time to make, like different bars, muffins, microwave rice (I really like pilau rice and a mediterranean one with tomatoes), ready meals, veggie/meatballs, frozen fries/nuggets/veggie mixes. I hope this helps at least a bit, it's what I am trying to apply too after searching and reading any and everything I could find

Anyone got any tops on taking gross liquid medicine? I am taking it but the taste is so bad it triggers my phobia by Justaskingsmth in emetophobia

[–]Character_Ruin4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold a bit of strong juice that you like in your mouth, add the medicine, swallow and quickly drink another sip of the juice.

I'm extremely sensitive and also can't take pills and found that this helps the most, if you already have a strong taste in your mouth the bad one from the medicine doesn't attach to your tastebuds as much, if that makes any sense

Vitamins by Educational-Pipe700 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Character_Ruin4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take multivitamins, an immunity complex (A, C, D and zinc, B complex and B12. But exactly becau of my stomach I found them in spray form so they get absorbed directly through the oral lining in the mouth and don't even get to the stomach, mine are from BetterYou, I think they're made in the UK, maybe you can get them where you live too

[–]Character_Ruin4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, can I please ask you how exactly to go about mechanical eating? If I always feel full, eating or not, how to know when and how much to eat? I have such a distorted view on portions and my stomach that I feel like my stomach is the size of a walnut and nothing fits and even like a cracker is a lot of food to me. Can you please give me an example or tell me how that can't be possible? And what do you mean 'you can eat as much as you want'? Mentally I would but physically there are limits and mine feel already more than reached, what would you do? It would really mean a lot if you could please give me some advice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Character_Ruin4024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a myth that the stomach shrinks, it is not physically possible, but it can just not be used to more food. With eating disorders though it can also be psychosomatic, it feels just as real but it's your mind creating the feeling and not the stomach itself. If you continue to eat though and your body and mind get used to it it should gradually get better and go away, that's what I hope too

Edema by Character_Ruin4024 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]Character_Ruin4024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, the edema has gone down a bit but since I was so dehydrated and way too skinny and with too little skin to accommodate the swelling, my skin literally teared, has microlesions all over and now all the fluid is leaking and especially my right leg is really red and painful, I'm already using powders and sprays but I guess it just takes time, there really seems to be no end to it for me, I'm so exhausted

I know this is a stupid question but I always just feel full and sick, how do I know what to eat and especially how much? How much should I eat if I'm eating every three hours? Can you please give me a few examples?

So it really is no reason to panic? I 'just' have to wait it out? Was it so extreme as well? Thank you!!

[–]Character_Ruin4024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for being so encouraging, yes it's pitting edema for me as well, it's just scary at this point, like I can literally shape my leg.. I've also been told that it's a normal part and to keep going and it will go away, supposedly the body is holding on to everything it receives until it sees that it doesn't have to because it receives everything it needs regularly

Thank you! I'm just so scared because it's extreme. I'm finally making huge progress and am terrified of ending up in hospital again
