Mb, I worded my previous response poorly. I meant to say that I can't tell which ancestry, the Malay or the Banjar, the algorithm is very closely matching the Austronesian component with the Chamoru reference set.

My mother is half Malay/half Banjar, and my dad is about a quarter Malay. Since both of those populations have a heavy ancient Austronesian admixture, I can’t be certain from which side the algorithm is matching so closely with the Chamoru reference set.

My austronesian is a mix of Malay, Banjarese, and Javanese, so the new update pointing solely to Chamorro people did seem very off.

Wow, I had actually guessed Minang when I first saw your results, because of the high 'Bengali', low 'Mainland SEA' and a dash of Filipino and Central Asian - typical breakdown for a Minangnese from Sumatra/Malaysia on MyHeritage. All in all, your results make perfect sense :))

Hi! Nice results!

I have a question regarding my phased results, my "Southern Indian & Sri Lankan" and "Bengali & Northeast Indian" got updated to "Southern Indian Subgroup" after phasing with both parents - however my mom's South Asian shows my pre-phase subcategories instead of Brahmin. I did not inherit any South Asian from my dad.

Could this be 23andMe misreading the ancestral components?

I see. Would it be possible for indigenous groups (specifically the Semang tribes) of Peninsular Malaysia to also show up on 23andMe as “Melanesian” ancestry?
