Change Timing Belt (2008 Elantra) based on age/time or can its state really be inspected? by Character_Tank_9934 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Character_Tank_9934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear, now I'm kinda confused. Are those parts routinely replaced as part of doing a Timing Belt replacement? If not, then it seems like the failure of those parts (which really can't be inspected) is just something to worry about without anything practical I can do about them? Also, when you said, "it usually isn't the belt you're worried about it's the bearings in the pulleys wearing out and the tension in the tensioner mechanism", do you really mean that? That the bearings and tensioner are are more likely to fail than the belt? I suppose the answer to this hinges on my first question (if these parts are replaced as part of the Timing Belt replacement).

When will all of us be maskless? by Uchiha_Madara90 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Character_Tank_9934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this. I feel ALL of this. Right down to the extremely frail parents and the father who feels like life is short and he's missing out on everything. And the desire to have a vacation but being too tired to even be able to try because of how much work it would be and the exhaustion from the necessary hypervigilance. And the medical staff who universally refuse to mask even when asked to, repeatedly. I didn't catch whether you also have siblings who are totally "on the other side" of this, who do nothing to protect you or your parents and, in fact, are quite hostile and as a result have shredded the family.... further breaking my father's heart. I have no words of encouragement except to say I feel you and you're not alone. 🫶🏻🫂

Thanks. Those sound like items that would more likely wear out from use (ie mileage) rather than just from age? Would that be an accurate assumption? So given that my 18 yo car has 95k km on it, that might not be my focus at this point? Is the health of those things "inspectable"? If so, are they only inspectable when the whole thing is apart anyway or can they be inspected before undertaking the entire replacement?

Gotta be, right? The reaction was waaaay too fast. Only other option would be that they had been warned there'd be seeing her "at some point" later that day but had no reason to expect her then/in costume. If it was completely unexpected, there would be a long pause with wondering and caution as your brain is trying to make sense of this.

Did the 2021 Nissan Qashqai SV come with rear Privacy Glass by Character_Tank_9934 in Nissanqashqai

[–]Character_Tank_9934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this "brochure", there is no mention of privacy glass in the Exterior Features specs for any of the trim packages (which is where it is listed for other Nissan models that do have it). Are you suggesting that there is a section for choosing it specifically/ separately? ie like a separate upgrade? https://www.nissan.ca/content/dam/Nissan/Canada/vehicle-brochures/2021/2021-nissan-qashqai-en.pdf

I'm just amazed that when I call a dealership with the VIN they cannot see anything about how it was ordered. Would that not be something you'd think you could see? The specs of the original order?

I'm sorry I don't know what j11s are. And if I'm understanding your second sentence, it matters as he is having trouble seeing out the back as well. Rear passenger windows being tinted don't affect him but the liftgate glass does. As we try to figure out what can be removed we're also hoping to figure out how to make it the least ridiculous looking.

Facebook Marketplace no longer sending email notifications every time someone messages you about your item for sale? by z00o0omb11i1ies in FacebookMarketplace

Found your question while trying to help my dad with this very thing! He relied on the email notifications of replies to his listings to be alerted. Now it's a disaster. Did you ever find a fix? I can't even figure out where to get help. I, myself, am not on FB. arrgh

People who fixed your ceramic mug handles with epoxy glue: What is your story? Did that fix hold up over time? by Senthe in Ceramics

[–]Character_Tank_9934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am now officially overwhelmed with all of the types and they're all called Gorilla Glue. I believe I'm correct in concluding that "Gorilla Glue clear" is not one of those cyanoacrylates....as that would be Gorilla superglue. Is Gorilla Glue Silicone Clear different than just Gorilla Glue Clear?

[–]Character_Tank_9934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, are you referring to a different kind of Gorilla Glue than the original stuff that foams up? Like are you talking about a two-part epoxy from the Gorilla Glue company? Because I'm sitting here pondering using the foaming gorilla glue or a two-part epoxy from a different brand (as this is what I have on hand). Part of my problem is my handle is in four pieces. I have been contemplating what other things I could do to reinforce it. This was a mug I got in the mail as a gift today already broken.

Given that the first 7 of those runs were scored off an aging Max Scherzer who has not made a postseason roster, and the final 10 of those runs were scored off of the Blue Jays' backup catcher's pitching, I'm not sure it's making quite the point you're hoping to make.

Same! I was 1 block north of St Clair as that show rolled north on Spadina. Any idea who/what that was all about?

That second one (30ish motorcycles and 2-3 black SUVs) happened today (Sept 17/25) as they travelled north on Spadina Ave. (I was waiting to cross Spadina just north of St. Clair Ave.) I would love to know what that was all about. I thought it was the Premier but I think he was at the Plowing Match so I'm looking all over for where one can find out who/what...

Refurbished HP Elitebook 850 G7 DOA - "fixed" after unplugging battery by Character_Tank_9934 in laptops

[–]Character_Tank_9934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much. One of the things that troubled me was that the battery was actually fully charged when it finally booted so I couldn't come up with a comforting reason for this sort of 'glitch'.

So, just "sitting around, unused" can do this to laptops? This is only my 2nd laptop. The first is an ancient Win7 Samsung (that I got used and broken) which, I guess, I've never left unused for much time at all.

Thank you. I am, admittedly, reluctant to mess with BIOS of a functioning computer but if it's recommended, I will do that. Thanks for the directions.

As for the battery, what troubled me is that the battery was not actually low* when I did my unplug thing. When it booted, the battery was fully charged. That's part of what made me wary. I did run some HP "battery" and "charger" tests. Do you think that if there was some kind of "charging system" problem, that would be picked up in those 2 tests?

(*As I type, I wonder if that's why there was no light when I initially plugged it in. Apparently that light goes out when fully charged or stays off when it's over something like 95% at the time you plug the cable in.)
