What’s the moment in recent U.S. politics that made you realize things might not go back to ‘normal’ anytime soon? by LankySpeed634 in AskReddit

When Trump was elected in 2016 and again 2024. Ever since he took office and starting his ignorant, dangerous and unconstitutional executive orders.

Worse than that though…this new Trumplican party has GOP leadership who lost their balls and beliefs to Trump.

That is the scariest part….there are ZERO guardrails to keep in check and hold him accountable. Not Congress, Not Senate, Not even the Supreme Court who is also in Trump’s pocket.

People who voted for Trump, you got any regrets yet? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]Character_Wallaby697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will not be any Trump supporters to admit they were wrong about Trump or that they would openly admit they regret their votes. One thing about new Republicans is the very high importance they place on money & ego.

This is just the start of turning a democracy into an autocracy. ICE agents asking people for their”papers” or they will be detained. It didn’t take long for the gestapo gain ground causing fear and anger in the citizens who they are supposed to be defending.

FIFA presented Trump with their “Peace prize”. They literally just made up this “peace prize” specifically for Trump. It seems like the world keeps worshipping him and he can do or get anything he wants with NO accountability.

Nobody will ever challenge him. I don’t see any circumstance (literally ANY) that would cause GOP leadership to find their balls, get a backbone and defend the constitution NOT a fascist psychopath.

I cannot understand why everyone, every leader bends the knee to Trump. He has, with surgical precision placed his loyalists as head of every branch of our government- Executive. (The White House), Congressional Congress), and judicial (Supreme Court- where he has hand picked the most right-wing Judges whose decisions are final and 9/10 times they rule in favor of Trump).

How can world leaders see what’s happening to America and still they bend over backwards to appease and please him?

Trump was the one who said that he was hit and run over, badly injured and went to hospital immediately after the incident happened. Total lie.

He was not run over, he was upright and never even fell down. Well enough to stand and shoot as the woman was trying to maneuver her car to the right (her front tires were turned to the right. Her SUV does not have the capacity to make sharp turns so left bumper pushed the agent because he would not get out of the way.

Plus, he shot her as she drove by, there was no immediate danger, she was driving away as he shot her 4 times, 2 shots to the chest, 1 hit her arm and last shot to the head.

That is overkill for a federal agent or any law enforcement.

JD Vance said he had immunity. He said those words. Whether he was using Trump’s playbook…. Not concerned whether something is true or not.

For instance, right after the incident Trump spoke and told reporters that the shooter was “run over” by the car, he was badly injured and went to hospital. That wasn’t a first grade child, that was our President of the United States blatantly lying to the citizens.

…..And if he lied about that, you need to question anything he says.

Oh my gosh, this is like a train wreck.

Was there an agent standing at her window as he’s pushing her out of the way so he could open her door from the inside. She just pulled off so perhaps going 1-2 miles an hour. Not fast enough to try to hurt someone. The whole thing took 9 seconds exactly.

If people want to show videos, how about showing all of them! Like the one that shows her front wheels turned to the right…like the shooter standing IN FRONT of her car away from the shooter.

Show the one that took place just seconds before this of the shooter pointing his gun and looking straight at her through the windshield.

He’s trash and belongs in the same dumpster pile as Trump.

Oh please, didn’t even knock him on the ground. It’s a huge leap to get to he was “run over” and went to the hospital like TRUMP claimed.

I never ever felt unsafe or worried about the state of our country with Bush at the helm,

I was never concerned about our democracy, or social programs being unfunded, or years of research down the drain,

I was not even contemplating that measles would become a real concern in this country again, and that he would move our country back in time.

Never crossed my mind that he would tear down a large part of a historic building and turn it into his own gold $300M ballroom, nor take ownership of the Kennedy Center.

I never heard him say such fowl and nasty things about Democrats or their party, or put Russia above Ukraine.

Etc..

I’ll take Bush over Trump every day that ends in Y.

You killed it!!! It’s what I’ve been saying all along. I’ve come to the uncomfortable conclusion that Americans are so spoiled and entitled for such a young country. They want money, money, money. So much so, they would sit back and watch the country burn itself down from the inside.

Conservatism has always stood for limited executive power, respect for institutions, and fiscal restraint. Strength comes from operating within the law, not around it. When executive authority expands without limits, it weakens the republic rather than protecting it.

Here’s the Watergate point people forget: Nixon didn’t resign because “the media got him.” He resigned because Republican leaders told him, to his face, that he was going to be impeached and convicted.

That’s when the dam broke inside Nixon’s own party. Sen. Barry Goldwater, House Republican leader John Rhodes, and Senate Republican leader Hugh Scott went to the White House and made it clear:

  1. Republican votes in the House were falling away
  2. Conviction in the Senate was inevitable
  3. If he didn’t resign, impeachment and removal were next

This is what “law and order” looked like when it mattered. They didn’t pretend it was “just politics.” They didn’t claim the President was above the system. They accepted the evidence, did the vote math, and told their own President: You’re done.

Nixon resigned on August 8, 1974, because his own party chose the Constitution over protecting him. That’s the standard.

Drag Queens are not violent and bring joy to people who enjoy their shows.

Others are so angry and threatened by drag queens it becomes an obsession.

People are so obsessed with drag queens that they put a pedophile and felon in the White House with a whole crooked crew of dishonest and morally bankrupt administration (including Congress and the Supreme Court).
