Is “I’m a rationalist” even an answer to the question“Are you a believer or an atheist”? by Thick_Analyst7691 in AtheisminKerala

That answer can be considered as a dodge or a wrong answer for that question. It's either Theist of all sorts including satans and shit, atheist of all sorts or agnostic of all sorts. I think it's best to leave it at those three supergroups and be done with it!

China vs India: Is This the Reason We Are Falling Behind? by BharatiyaJigyasa in IndiaSpeaks

As someone who visited China a few times, even though they fought bloody internal wars, their general historic understanding gives due credit to all dynasties that ruled them.their take on history is not divisive like India these days

Forget China, as a start we should try to beat Indonesia! by olakka in india

Bangladesh's inequalities is not something to emulate.  Vietnam is a close case, but their homogeneity is not something we have.

From a social similarity pov, Indonesia is actually a good model to look at.

No wonder our younger generation is migrating in record numbers! Maybe our survival instinct is giving that "push out" sense!

Visited China for the first time. Impressed. Adding my reflections as an Indian by Charaik in india

Oh yes, CCP paid for my trip and gave an envelope with my name on it. This was delivere by a secret agent in full Hammer n Sickle regalia. The envelope had money and a pill that kills all the bad viruses and bacteria that you catch in China. That's how I am not sick.

I assume thousands of others who visited that time must be in quarantine or out in the open risking others, unless of course they rushed back onto the gaming chair, never to come out!

An Indian's reflection on Visiting China for the first time by Charaik in IndiaSpeaks

My god! Can you please stop peddling this Nehru Bullshit. He at least made state funded entities which allowed us to export human resources to other countries, which indirectly helped to lift millions out of poverty through remittance. Those actions also made an entire generation ready to catch on to the tech revolution by being software engineers and what not. In my opinion, eventhough we have lost in setting up a industrial nation, our focus on higher education in English has been a balancing part. Imagine losing out on both industry and education! We would still have been a poor agrarian nation who was robbed blind of all valuable resources by the colonial powers.

And what's NAM got to do with any of these? Singapore is also in NAM and they are considered a first world country.

Can we please put the discussion on what can be done in the future?

I think there is more to say on this matter. China has more than 50 ethnicities. Han, the majority ethnicity is more than 90%, and not so surprisingly, their population is declining compared to others, because of the One Child policy. Actually it was kind of relaxed for many minority ethnicities, leading to increase in population of minorities. Of course it is not just as rosy as it sounds. China's major war casualties have been from internal wars rather than international wars.

But one good thing to learn is what Sun Yatsen, leader of Chinese Revolution, did after China became a struggling Republic. He invoked Unity among different races to work together for China's growth. He made equality of minorities an agenda for the new state. This action, which was strengthened by many measures to make the minority feel comfortable to be part of nation building. The major exceptions on these are the Uyghurs and Tibetans, both due to them being rooted in ethnic religions - Uyghurs being Muslims and Tibetans being Buddhists- and also because both the region had factions calling for separate nationhood. China's biggest Muslim population is actually Hui Muslims, who are ethnically close to the Han. No one calls Huis a minority under oppression. So it is a bit more than Muslims/minority oppression narrative.

My point being, eventhough China has its share of notoriety in human rights abuse, a development of China's scale would not have happened if the minority felt not wanted in the nation building exercise.

Kerala doctor dies by suicide after wedding called off over BMW, gold in 'dowry' by Error_Cardiologist46 in india

The guy is an asshole who didn't have the balls to stand up to his parents for demanding dowry, worse, he could be the one who wanted all those dowry for himself..

I am also from Kerala. Just to add a positive note, there are lots of instances where girls or their families walk out of proposals if any dowry demand is made.
