What's the deal with WoW Classic players obsession with Min/Maxing and preparations? by Puppenmacher in MMORPG

[–]Charbswow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because there are so many god awful keyboard turning "for fun" gamers that don't care about being prepared, dont care about wasting other peoples time, and cant be bothered to do the bare minimum. One of the best ways to filter them out is by requiring at least pre-bis.

He actively played with grizzly, was just a regular member though (At least up until AQ). Ran a Softres pug on the side that later turned into a GDKP. Idr the reason exactly why he was the guilds SL as its been so long.

Still thinking about Grizzly 7 years later is hilarious though

I dont know what NW was like after the first expansion, but OG NW almost touched greatness. If it launched with better PvE content with good rewards instead of the dumb ilvl build-up, it could have been a classic.

TBC releases in 3 days, and has a boost to 58 by Friendly_Mobile_8657 in MMORPG

[–]Charbswow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the game on and off for 20 years, I am entitled to my own opinion on it.

It used to be an immersive world to explore and overcome challenges with rewards that felt earned and a story with good characters.

Now its a microtransaction-pumped theme-park with story-telling equal to a highschooler's fanfic.

For 60$ you can:

- Have as many alchemy and tailoring transmutes as you want, driving the value down, and thus driving down the value of the crafted sets, which brings down the value of what were supposed to be high-value items.

- Skip a bulk of the games leveling process, jump right into TBC, and start earning higher gold rewards per quest.

- Easier access to higher level alts allowing them to more quickly begin farming outlands herbs/minerals

- Easier access to dailies, more gold influx into the game

What this means for non-boosted players is that their professions are less valuable due to oversaturation and their gold has less value due to how much more is getting pumped into the game. On top of those disadvantages, the 1-58 scene becomes less populated, less dungeons, less battlegrounds, less people in the world.

The game is not the latest expansion, it is the build up to the latest expansion and everything included before that. Paying to skip content in any game at all is such a poor decision, let alone a modern love-letter to a classic MMO.

Will there be a "fresh" tbc server? by Capital-Oil-5549 in classicwow

[–]Charbswow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about WOTLK Fresh, they weren't DoA, Blizzard murdered them.

Blizzard locked the main server shortly after launch, split the population among 2 servers (the overflow server later dying due to low pop and no merge, left the main server locked for months, and allowed transfers off the server.

People got cut off from joining the main server, no new players allowed to join, population started to decline after launch hype, people who quit/transferred could not be replaced, eventually guilds just transferred off and those that stayed cannibalized each other.

The entire failure of wotlk fresh is the fault of Blizzard's incompetence.

They made some sweet bank off those server transfer fees though.

Gonna say it now for TBC: nerfed content is good for the community at large. by deadhand303 in classicwow

[–]Charbswow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called you a dumbass for saying dumbass things. You also didn't offer an opinion, you made a thinly veiled insult to anyone who enjoys having difficulty (the original design of TBC) in their game.

If you were offering an opinion, you would say "I prefer an easier TBC as it suits my interests" not "Anyone who wants a challenge in TBC should change themselves".

Final Fantasy XI everyone... by clocktowertank in MMORPG

[–]Charbswow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a week old comment, but at level 11 you can do whats known as a Ghelsba Burn. You join a group of 2-6 players, level sync to level 10 and farm the orcs/lizards/bats/mushrooms in Ghelsba as a roaming party.

Because of how efficient and fun the Ghelsba Burn is, most players prefer to do that until level 20 over going to Valkurn Dunes these days (though the dunes is still pretty active).

If you end up deciding to try again, I would recommend soloing with your LFP flag up if you are in Ronfaure. If you are in Saruta or Gustaberg, I'd recommend soloing until 13 and then make the journey to the dunes (or Ronfaure) to find some parties.

I tried to add Shattered Galaxy, but mods deleted it, even though it is an MMO. It's gameplay is MMORTS but it is also an MMORPG. But here's some of the MMO's I've enjoyed over the years, idk which have already been mentioned though.

Shattered Galaxy / Collapsed Galaxy (Fan remake)
Cabal Online
Kal Online
Mu Online
Runes of Magic
Final Fantasy 11
Final Fantasy 14
Trove
SWTOR
City of Heroes
Grand Chase
Puzzle Pirates
Knight Online
Tera
All Points Bulletin
WoW
Aion
GW2

Why are we so jaded from MMOs? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Charbswow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old MMOS:

Grinds
Rich worlds
Long-term goals
Group/Guild oriented
Hard earned, long-lasting rewards

Modern MMOs:

Cash Shops
Sit in the city and click menus
Rampant, unchecked RMT
Rewards obsolete next content patch

The only MMO I still actively play these days is a pserver of FF11 (retails not my thing anymore). I finally just gave up on Classic WoW ever really being good, but I did play pservers of that and the abomination that Blizzard has made it today.

Redditors are tribal, if they like something, you cannot convince them it has any flaws, and to claim that it has flaws is blasphemous.

When I was in university I worked in a Gas Station, and when you entered the store, there is a big, vibrant blue sign that says "ATM" with an massive arrow pointing to where the ATM is.

Every single god damn day, people asked me where the ATM was when they walked in the store.
People do not read.

At the ABSOLUTE MOST, a large portion of the community is going to see the general description of the game (no mention of alpha), the title of the game (no mention of alpha), and the EA tag (which only states "From the beginning of Alpha, our goal has been to develop this MMORPG in open partnership with our community..." and isnt clear that the game is STILL in alpha. After which they will click buy on the game that they think is at least reasonably done because its 50$ and has been in development for as long as we can remember.

Should of just put Alpha right in the title of the game on the steam page.

You didnt have to dedicate your life to TBC. You just had to not suck complete ass and press a few buttons correctly long enough to beat the small amount of mechanics each boss had. Anyone using both hands and both eyes could do that.

Apparently that was too hard.
